That's how war works and has always worked for centuries.

So rather than provide the poster some sources/links, you resort to questioning his care for dead children; you did the exact same to me when I asked for evidence that the strike was deliberate and intentional, whilst knowing it would kill children…..bizarre.

Well, that poster has posted that British jews are members of an "abhorrent tribe", and when questioned backed that up with a reference to illustrate that he absolutely did use the word tribe to refer to all jews. So you tell me. Does the poster "dislike" jews when he calls all jews "Abhorrent"? Is calling ALL jews "Abhorrent" anti-Semitic or not?

Aha! We knew you loved dead children... caught you !!!!!

    This whole thread is bizarre.

From the guardian journalist /fashion blogger who supposedly convinced the EU who subsequently gave the US the OK to strike Iran...

To users who tore Bellingcat a new one in various other threads, saying its an MI6 front, to now glorifying it..

To Iran being seen as completely immune to any wrong doing ever...

US command showing everyone how their new 500km missile was used in combat for the first time. They are so stupid honestly, this will of been before last Wednesday. I wonder where it was launched from, maybe one of those neutral countries ?

This will be a depressing thread to read if this conflict continues for a few months with no end in sight. Just full of right wing pontificating about only being one day away from victory.

The Iranian regime is terrible but I also dont think it will be defeated this way.

Did I hear right, that Trump hasn't ruled out boots on the ground? That would be mayhem for the U.S.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭vswr

It's looking very likely there will be.

Would be the final nail in his political coffin. They may have remove his name from the Kennedy Center after this now!

you never posted anything glorifying Russian missiles?

    @JohnDoe2025

"The silence from left-wing Ireland about the women and children killed this year by their own Government in Iran speaks volumes, especially when the hand-wringing and whinging resumed this weekend led by our President pitifully pontificating about international law."

There is no one supporting those actions in the West. Like what exactly would "left-wing Ireland" be saying about those killings? Everyone agrees they are bad. There is no battle to fight, no one to convince, no way to impact it. Our government is not in support of the killings, nor is any government in Europe or America.

I used to think that people like you simply did not understand this, but I now realise it's just intentionally dishonest framing of opponents. "You did not openly criticise an obviously bad thing that literally everyone agrees was bad, therefore, that means you tacitly supported it."

bored65 is doing the same thing. It's like you think you unlocked some cheat code in arguments but it's really just arguing in bad faith.

Which neutral country that has a load of sand within 500 km of Iran allowed it's territory to be used to attack Iran ?

I'm sure that new satellite system can pick up everything up that is going on in real time.

you still have not openly condemned and criticised an obviously bad thing the Iranian regime has done to their population who wanted nothing more but democracy and prosperity like normal countries enjoy and continues to do in form of attacks on all their neighbours most of whom didn’t want to be dragged into a war, their ongoing attack on neutral countries at this rate will result in them not remaining neutral

You can’t even bring yourself to admit that this thing called democracy and rule of law is a good thing

"Do you condemn Hamas and October 7th attacks?"

That was the opening gambit on the news for months into the genocide, like it had to be explicitly announced and then to attempt to drag the interviewee down a rabbit hole of justifying their position rather than actually being allowed to discuss and openly make their points.

    Edit: see above

Again, here we go. I openly condemn and criticise Iran's killing of protestors. I wish their revolution had worked from within but am completely against starting a war and killing Iranians because Iran kills Iranians.

It's a meaningless statement. It doesn't even have to be said because it's just obvious.

There is no point trying to counter bad faith posting.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 795 ✭✭✭JohnDoe2025

Mick Wallace, Clare Daly, Catherine Connolly, RBB, Paul Murphy, all of them denziens of left-wing Ireland have not said a word to condemn or criticise the killing by the Iranian regime of thousands of their own women and children.

Like they did with Russia, they fall over themselves to avoid criticism of Iran, yet the minute US or Israel do something, the pitiful pontification about international law begins again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭bored65

Bravo see that wasn’t so hard

It’s only meaningless if you don’t mean it, and some seem to have no issues with 36,000 being eradicated for “meaningless” notions we enjoy

And its very meaningful in a thread where you have those who openly support other regimes like Russia which are allied to Iran and their little colonial wars that make this one pale in comparison when it comes to death counts. Or talk about us “westerners” as if they don’t themselves sit here in the west, in a neutral country for whom concepts such as neutrality and peace matter very much, unless you disagree with our Leftie President too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,438 ✭✭✭brickster69

Well which non neutral country that has US troops within 500km of Iran could it be ?

All people who are Zionist support the tribe, side, team… whatever they are called! You are just arguing semantics, Israel is an evil force.

You tell us, as you are the one who made a claim that you can’t prove

after all them Chinese satellites should be able to tell

The civilian body count is of course going to increase if this does continue like this for the next months. May even reach the Gazan civilian death figure.

Hopefully no boots on yhe ground, or the civilian deaths will sky rocket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,228 ✭✭✭Enduro

Well, you'd have a point if he was saying zionism was abhorrent. But that's not what he said. He said that British (non-Israeli) jews were members of an "abhorrent tribe", and backed that up with a reference to illustrate that the use of the word "tribe" was precisely intended to refer to all Jews (with no reference to whether they were zionists or not). That is anti-semitism, not anti-zionism, or anti-Israeli, or anti-Israeli government. And again, he was referring to Non-Israelis, so it has nothing to do with whether Israel is an evil force, or not.

Why do you feel the need to downplay such anti-semitism?

I recently read the Fall of the Peacock throne and what the Shah was doing to civilians via his secret service was revolution enducing. I get why the revolution happened via the mosques and religion because the Shah controlled every other aspect of civilian life via his 700.000 strong army. It wasn't until the army started turning against him that he started trying to be nice, but by then it was too late.

If a nation has a soul the Shah had already sliced its heart. A real watershed was the deaths of around 700 cinema goers who were locked in when it was set on fire by the Shahs goons. Forty days after hundreds of thousands mourners became protesters, and 40 days later again the protest grew bigger until the Shah took the controls of his personal 707 and took off.

There had been other protests in previous years, but the Shah's extravagance and cruelty created an unbridgeable chasm.

I can see how its never had a chance to relax if the forces that propped up the Shah were always at its throat and I can see how 90 million people are not going to be defeated, even if Trump put boots on the ground. I've zero doubt that Iranians will have every invasion route booby trapped.

You're talking to someone who's spent the last couple of years acting as an apologist for Israel's genocidal campaign in Gaza. It's pretty clear which bad actor they're in favour of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,669 ✭✭✭dePeatrick

Accusations of antisemitism have been rendered meaningless, Israel is evil.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 978 ✭✭✭batman75

Some threads on X hinting at a possible ceasefire. Trump may seek to claim victory with the killing of an 86 year old Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Pathetic really.

This war in its execution has cost the US billions. Then you have the military bases across the M/East that have been destroyed.

A truly catastrophic miscalculation by Trump on every level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,890 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

i think a TACO move at this early stage would be too much for Trump to swallow.

Be interesting, when the dust settles, to learn who exactly talked him into this action.

Seriously? Do you think that all Jews everywhere are responsible for the actions of the Israeli government?

Anti-Semitism (and other forms of bigotry and racism, including Islamophobia) is alive and well, as that poster has illustrated in his own words on this forum. No actions of any government or nation justify bigotry and/or racism. You might be OK with that bigotry, but I'm certainly not.
