I locked up my rear brakes this morning on the commute. Now every time I apply the brakes they don't release and the wheel gets stuck. If hold lever in for a few seconds it seems to release ok, any ideas on what could cause this?
are they rim brakes?
is it possible a brake block is misaligned, and has slid under the rim and is catching there?
what type of brakes - rim or disc?
Disc Brakes? Could be a buildup of gunk in the things the press the pads out. A tyre lever can press them back, and a small brush to clean the gunk out.
Are they mechanical or hydraulic. a few ideas for either, I presume hydraulic:
Hydraulic brakes. Pads are are fairly new, only replaced in December. I'll try giving it a clean first and see if that helps.
Freehub Advice Needed
I have a set of Tokyo Wheel Epic Carbon rim brake wheels. The freehub wasn’t sounding great so I went looking for a replacement but couldn’t find the correct model. I’ve contacted the wheel manufacturer but haven’t had a reply; apart from an automated one with a WhatsApp number to contact. And that hasn’t led to anything worthwhile.
It has the code 1706CN0048 6 11S on it. The other option is to rebuild the current freehub and I have the bearings and springs on order now but I’d also like to know the model for future reference. Pics below
Thanks for the advice everyone. Finally went at this over the last few days. Replaced the brake pads and cables on front and back and the added new handle bar grips.
Went fine, cable was a little hard to cut with a pliers but was grand. Will probably get a wire cutters for any future work though.
Next thing I need to attack is the front gears. They some what work but I couldn't adjust them so they changed gear reliably even after trying to re-index them. So I think I'll just try replace the cable and see does that help.
The back gears seem to work fine so it's not really the end of the world if I can't get the front ones working right.

I'm a little on the fence about fixing this as I don't really have any use for it , I already have one spare 24" bike for when the eldest grows into it!
I'd maybe consider just stripping it for parts, but it feels like a waste since it probably could be fixed up for €30 and an hours work, I'll have a think about it!
Got a puncture recently and it left this small hole in my GP5000 tyre. I have replaced the inner tube, but I don't know if the tyre is ok like this, if it needs to be repaired (how?) or needs to be replaced? What do ye all think?
If you're worried about it, you could put a tyre boot on.
Thanks a lot, I'll have a look at that. Also, how long in general should I expect to get out of a set of tyres? I've just checked, and I've done 1,900km on them in the last year. I'm not sure how often I should be thinking of replacing them though?
I’ve seen before..deflate the tyre and pinch around the cut to release any debris that might be stuck in there. Then put a drop of superglue into the cut and carry on. Keep an eye on it and replace if it gets and worse or if you puncture again
i've cycled on worse… as above, work out anything that's in the cut and if it's not through to the casing you should be fine.
Done the same. works fine. i used the glue i have here for glueing latex (canoe top seals).
The latex / flexible glues are probably better - superglue is too rigid when it sets
A lot of aftermarket wheels often use rebranded Novatec or Formula hubs. Novatec certainly make a 6-pawl freehub - that would be the first place I'd check
I've used superglue before in the past and while it's always been fine, you're probably right. Bog standard patch adhesive is supposed to work well
thanks I went straight to Novatec as I have a contact there but it’s not one of theirs. Could well be Fromula. I ended up stripping the freehub down, replacing both bearings and the 6 microsprings and it’s running a1 again. I had an email just yesterday from the wheel manufacturer offering to supply a new unit for $70 also. so all sorted in the end

Download the "Hubtiger" app. its free and is great for keeping track of when parts are installed and it will give you recommendation on how long they should last. How long you get out of tyres will depend on many factors, but i tend to get anywhere between 5,000k out of the rear and closer to 8,000k on the front.
Do Kryptonite keys eventually wear away to the point they won't open a lock?
I was stuck yesterday morning about to go to work. Later in the day, I oiled it a drop, and it opened. But today, it took a couple of attempts to open it.
Kryptonite do recommend using a bit of WD40 on the locks to clean them and apply some wax-based lube (although I've not done it on mine).

just took the bike out for the first spin of the year.
Gears are a bit off,so might need too get them adjusted,any recommendations for a shop too do ( in Dublin )& rough cost ?? thanks

first though, are you sure the chain is lubricated?
have a go at it yourself first, loads of YT videos showing how (start with the Park Tools channel).
If everything is lubed, you probably just need to adjust the barrel adjuster on the derailleur. Front tends to be a bit more of a faff (IMO) but not too bad if you follow the Park videos as @loyatemu suggested. If they were working OK last year then you almost certainly don't need to bother with the limit screws - front and back
Bike is making a creak/clang when the left pedal is down, with power, at around 7-8pm on the clock.
I've ruled out the pedal and the seat/seat post. I've oiled and tightened the spokes on the rear wheel
Edit: I can get it to happen with no hands on the handle bars, so I hope that rules the bars out also
I don't fancy a diy crank shaft fix though. Is there anything else I can try before I have to drop my bike down to the mechanic?
Is there any wobble in the crankset? Could be the BB saying goodbye. Could be a slightly loose crankset either.
