Texoil dropped prices by 60euro for 1000 litres since friday. Was 640 now 580 in Galway It's going to be cheaper in 2-3 weeks as crude oil dropped 23% on todays markets
If a load of people ordered online on a Sunday maybe there just wasn't enough oil in stock to cover the unexpected surge.
Most suppliers are playing catch up because of the amount eejits ordering who don't need it. OH works for a supplier so I know the abuse staff are getting and the stupidity of the general public calling.
Prices being set elsewhere is one thing. Lifelong customers of oil outfits locally are getting shocking treatment. Friend rings up gets his order taken at 500 euro for 500 litres. Usually pays the driver when tank is filled. Driver never arrives. Rings the office several times but all of a sudden they have some poor young woman handling all the complaints. Eventually gets talking to the guy he normally deals with. Gets told his order is cancelled and if doesnt like it thats his problem. Low enough carry on with prices jumping daily.
Need to name and shame as not all are doing this. Most are honourable.
I doubt everybody ordering 500 litres needs the oil though.
There's a lot of panic buying and no need for it. It's nearly April FFS.
How do you know they are not honourable?
If too many go panic ordering when they don't need to and theres not enough in stock what's a retailer supposed to do?
My issue is with dodging a loyal customer for nearly a week hoping they'll just go away. If you're not going to fill the order sack up and tell them. Let them try and get sorted somewhere else.

I heard that argument a few times. My counter argument is that people are panic buying because the price is increasing so rapidly, what cost €250 last week is costing €500 today and people are worried it might cost €1,000 next week.
If prices didn't increase by so much at such a rapid pace then there would be less panic buying. Of course, a bit of panic with summer just around the corner does well for the home heating oil delivery business, which is something not mentioned nearly as much as it should

Most home heat distributors are relatively small and don't use top level technology. Their system simply allows people order away and that is no problem at any time EXCEPT when people panic buy.
Suddenly they have 30,000L in their tanks and orders for 100,000L
They check with the importer who suddenly finds MASSIVE demand and don't have supply in their storage tanks to meet the panic buying.
The importers then have to buy at the spot prices set by the refineries.
The refineries are getting orders in from everywhere and place restrictions on orders
Prices rocket and importers have no choice whatsoever but to pay what is being demanded

Ringing up solely to complain about prices or abuse staff is not on.
It shouldnt be too much to ask for a seller to refuse an order if it's not going be filled at the price agreed. Just be up front about it. Picking and choosing who to shaft so you can sell for a higher price later is poor form.
I wont be naming businesses on this thread. Im in the north most area of Donegal (Inishowen). Everyone already knows what sellers are acting the ball bag. Its only a few. The majority are treating their loyal customers as they should and I hope they keep those customers when prices stabilise.

How do you know they didn't simply run out of oil before they could get to fill your order?
You also neglect to accept that the retailer could just as easily be caught with a delivery at an extremely high price next week only for things to go back to normal the week after and his "loyal" customers won't be long shafting then.
Fair, but with all due respect. If people are nearly out. We tend to have a **** march or April in this country where temperatures plummet. Oddly enough sometimes it snows, the last gasps of winter out of nowhere. Saying it's nearly April is meaningless.
Company has been in business 20+ years. Perhaps if their business model was keep taking orders with no idea about what stock is at hand they'd be gone long ago.
Im not sure how the delivery van scenario justifies not filling orders at price agreed.
March last year was the warmest since 2012.
April was the 3rd warmest since 1900.
If people are nearly out, fair enough. But there are people with 100s of litres of oil and buying more.
I saw someone in a garage last week filing jerry cans up in their boot with unleaded, about 5 or 6 of them. Look at bread shelves when we get a bit of snow

It's probably a small business. It could be as simple as some young lad on the phone taking 50 orders without wondering why it's suddenly gone from a few orders a day to this.
Owner gets in and he's missed a load of text orders too.
In that scenario they can't fill the panic buyers orders.
Another problem a business has is dealing with the sudden volatility. If he buys a delivery next week at say €2 a litre and the following week it's back to €1.50 then his competitor could be able to sell at €1.60 and he's sitting on a big loss.
It's simple logic to put the price up fairly quickly on existing stock so you hedge against volatility.
Not to 'attack' as you stated but to dismiss the oil companies who are cancelling orders for long-term customers in particular.
This is after all, a bargain alert forum.
Why shouldn't others be warned off the ripoff businesses?
Ignore them and give other decent companies your money.

Funny you should say that as it's to turn much colder from this coming Thursday evening/night. Many parts of the country will see snow falling at some point on Friday and there'll be a biting wind and after a brief respite, there's growing chances of further bouts of wintery weather.
So we may see proper panic buying in a few days time.

In fairness to Mor oil in Galway they came through for me today. 8 days after the order but I got my 500l for €529 delivered today.

A barrel of oil down 25% since midnight.
It's falling like a stone.
Good news - as expected, dumb Trump has realised this was causing major issues with his dumb supporters and is going to cave in.
He'll of course claim a "victory".
Oil prices have plummeted back under $90.
Diesel may still head to €2.20 or so, but if the strait of hormuz reopens, expect a very quick drop in Refining margins at the same time.
