Didn't realise the club were trying to offload Robertson? Thought he wanted to leave to play more? Have you links to where the club wanted to offload him?
We should also be raiding the academys, a player with a profile like Lewis Hall was a steal for 28 million. We need 5 to 6 players in the 20 - 30m bracket to pad out the thin squad.
Its hard to understand what scouting is going on where we arent in for players like Rayan Bournemouth or Estevao who were widely touted before their moves. I'd like to see Milner brought in as coach when he hangs up the boots, starting off around the academy. Robbo as well should be retained i'd see either of them as future manager material.
Serious questions about Edwards and Hughes so far the juries out they cerntainly haven't helped Slot. The Elliott debacle, trying to offload Robbo and whatever was happening with Jones , their transactional view of things hasn't done whole lot for morale
There'll be a reduction in high earners over the next 15 months you would expect with Salah, Robertson, Chiesa and possibly VVD leaving which will need to be balanced with new contracts for Grav, Szoboszlia and Konate potentially.
Elliot Anderson would be a great signing potentially a new Stevie G, City are seemingly in for him for 90 million in the Summer. The crazy decision to lump in on Isak and the current wage bill is going to make it a challenge to get the players we need.
He started against us twice in 2020 when there were no fans
And he'd played games in the 2 previous seasons for Ajax making his debut in 2018/19
He was the youngest ever player to play for Ajax in the Eredivisie, and the youngest goalscorer in club history
For a club like Ajax, being the youngest anything is pretty impressive, long long track record of youth talent
If rumours are true we are going to try for Wharton who I think is a bit more defensively minded. We definitely need someone to cover the lads when they go walkabout.
Only 23 feel like he's been around forever, I remember watching him at Ajax
Gravenberch was immense last season. His level of performance wasn't the same this season, although it has definitely improved recently.
I don't think he wants to be a 6 though.
He said after the Everton game that he had talked with Slot about playing more advanced this season.
I think he took the 6 role last season with a new manager coming in and guaranteeing himself more game time that he wasn't getting under Klopp as an attacking midfielder.
I could see McAllister leaving in the summer with Gravenberch moving up and a DM being bought.
I think we need at least 2 midfielders in the summer as Endo will be going and at least one of Jones or McAllister I think will go.
Totally disagree. Best 6 in the league last season. Naturally a bit of dip this year, but less than most, and he’s added some goals and good incisive passing (eg the pass to Eki v West Ham last week). No reason to think he won’t kick on further next year.
I agree with a lot of this but I don't actually think he is fine even if the team is functioning. He's not THE problem with the team but he is a problem. When he was in the form of his life for the first half of last season he didn't have to track back at all and it was worth it as he was scoring and assisting a ridiculous amount.
The problem with him (and something haaland has been accused of) is that if he's not scoring your basically playing with 10 men. The fact Salahs pace has gone only exacerbates the issue and has highlighted his very random touch (sometimes silky other times bounces off him).
We cannot carry this version of Salah so I can't see any world in which he's still with us next season. I do think Jota is a factor in this, they were clearly close but it seems age has caught up with Salah. He'll always be a legend but if we get any sort of offer for him in the summer I'd be taking it.
The Salah thing is so interesting to me.
He's not what he used to be, obviously. He had an insane 6 months where he was the best in the world, won us a title, and then regressed. Normal for a forward player reliant on pace at his age.
He shouldn't be on the contract he's on, obviously.
He's also not the problem with the team.
If the team was functioning at all properly, he still has the instinct, finishing ability and creative ability to be a real asset.
He is NOT able to carry us. But I believe that if we were able to function in a way that meant he was on the end of chances, he'd be fine. He's kinda in Ronaldo's end of Juve/start of second stint at Utd era. He's fine if you've your team sorted, and not so much if you've not.
Even Robbo himself said this. I know it's tough cos he is a legend but people need to realise Robbo ain't 25 anymore and can't play 60 games a season as a starting LB for a team aspiring to win leagues.
Missed it because of the Rugby. Glad to see Salah score. Jesus if he could even discover half the form he had last year we might still get champions league.
He needs to be an 8 though, not a 6.
Great news re Grav.
23, league winners medals in Netherlands, Germany and England, and the best still to come.
..
Robertson has 17 PL, 5 CL, 2 FA CUP, 2 EFL CUP. He's can't be described as a bench warmer. He has had a lot of minutes
If you have a lack of running power, then it's going to be very difficult for any coach to set this team up in the manner you like.
Until we address the physical limitations of this side, you may as well forget about pressing. A press needs all of the component parts to work in sync. You only need one weak link and the whole thing breaks down.
Besides, nobody is pressing anymore anyway.
I think Robbo's one of our only players to be doing better this season than last, he's clearly lost a step but he's been good in his more limited role.
Kerkez should still be getting the bulk of the minutes as he's the one who'll be here next year and Robbo can't take 90 minutes a week imo.
And was also quiet fresh after playing about 30-40 mins combined in the previous 4 matches.
Font get me wrong, I'd keep him as a back up, and rotational optional, for another season if I had the choice. But realistically at his wages and expectations, I don't think that's feasible.
Because when he's not playing against bottom of the table Wolves, his lack of pace is shown up time and again. He still has something to offer but is on the decline. He is more impactful from the bench or in Cups against the minnows now. Surely it's better to bed in the future than to look back on the past with rose tinted glasses?
Relying on A Robertson L pool MG range goal is not a sustainable strategy either. It was a bolt from the blue in a lot of ways. We again lacked any real creativity or ability to penetrate. There is a lot of outcome based analysis today saying how well we played, in reality we didn't play my any different last might to over the last year or so.
Robertson played really well, a stand out, and deserved MoTM. Still baffled as to why he lost his place.
Gakpo was really quite poor, again. Mac Allister not great.
I agree, we are miles off where we should be, but, there was definitely some improvement from the game on Tuesday, some of that might be down to the changes Wolves made too, so that does need to be factored in, but, in our current state we have to take what ever small positives we can.
It was the same shít.
Perfectly happy, considering the state of us, to get through, but performance-wise that was no different to Tuesday.
Passive, not compact, lack of running power and badly coached. All that happened was we got a breakthrough, and it opened up the game slightly. It's not proactive, aggressive and anything like I want a Liverpool team to be set up.
Passing was arguably a bit quicker at times, but we still look so meh.
Great result, thought we started OK, but, faded after about 15/20 mins, last 25 mins of first half was awful stuff, plenty of the ball, but, didn't threaten Wolves at all. Ironically Wolves started the 2nd half strong which allowed us to get the breakaway goal, which Salah did great to hold onto the ball and layoff to Jones. Getting the second goal so quickly killed off the tie, hopefully that's Salah getting back into a bit of form, also Robertson should be used more, I think if given the chance, he can have a big impact on the rest of the season. Rio did great, brought a bit of spark to our play, definitely needs to be involved more. Pity about the late goal, but, at least the game was won at that stage. 2nd half performance was much better, positive night overall, hopefully get a kind draw, wouldn't say no to winning FA Cup if the opportunity is there.
It's a bad state of affairs when starting your (let's say) 13th or 14th strongest option in your squad is considered "squad rotation" but with Slot that is in fact the case. 🙄
Huge potential for a nice draw in 1/4 final , any of bottom 4 fixtures at home would be nice. Would be great to see an upset for the big 3, all away from home
In his last 10 games, Salah has 4 goals and 4 assists. That would be pretty good for most players. Below his usually standards of course, but it would be a great time of the season for him to come into a bit of form now.
