MIPS is no more but it was also a RISC chip like ARM.
They've been manufactured for mobile devices so far. Only really apple has pushed the architecture and even then they aren't aiming for console performance and more mobile. I've heard from a friend of Apple pushed for a top end chip it would leave the x86000 in the dust.
I know there’s been some very solid ports like Cyberpunk. Not familiar with BG3 on Mac but glad to hear it’s a good port. I only use Mac for work these days so haven’t used it to try modern games, only going by the reports of Digital Foundry and the like (and I might be conflating some of it with their reporting on the iOS ports).
MetalFX does seem impressive, but given the relatively small amount of big Mac ports it does still seem to be a pretty limited platform compared to PC. Perhaps a few gens behind is a bit of an exaggeration, though!

There is no such thing. It may leave it in the dust at a very particularly optimized thing, but not at everything, absolutely not at a diverse workload like gaming.
Steam in their Year in Review 2025 hinting that they still hope to release their new hardware in 2026, but this might be delayed.
Here’s the lineup of hardware we announced in 2025. We hope to ship in 2026, but as we shared recently, memory and storage shortages have created challenges for us. We’ll share updates publicly when we finalize our plans!

Man, I'm really hoping they release this year, purely because i think they'll launch half life 3/Alyx 2 with it and get me sweet sweet fantasy League points.
They must have since changed the language on this to counter any ambiguity:
“Here’s the lineup of hardware we announced in 2025. We shared recently that there have been challenges with memory and storage shortages, but we will be shipping all three products this year. More updates will be shared as we finalize our plans.”
Sony has been testing dynamic pricing on its digital games
I don't even know where to start here.
Why am I not even surprised now.
Even I can't defend that one... I hate dynamic pricing in general, utter scummy practice. I could see some thinking behind it. Tempt those who don't buy as much online (get them into the ecosystem), but it would only stop others from buying in hopes to get it cheaper themselves. Can't work tbh. Anyway, it's already dynamic, cheaper in some countries, etc.
Bad vibes if true. Leaker previously correct. First point is very telling if true.
I kind of figured it would be using Windows store and not allowing stuff like steam on there, although that's yet to be seen.
Windows store uses games have weird DRM that makes mods very tricky so hoping we don't get Windows store only games like we used to get.
Ah, I think that guy is probably telling the truth, but also doesn't understand what that truth, if you get me?
It'll almost certainly make use of the Xbox Hypervisor, so while he makes "backward compatibility" out to be a bad thing, it'll actually be exactly how Xbox deals with games right now.
Also, the way that he makes it sound like everything has to be a UWP app? UWP doesn't exist as a thing anymore, so I'm really don't think that they'll go backwards on that.
So yeah, huge grain of salt with that speculation. I have no doubt that there's going to be huge changes to how games are created and packaged for the new Xbox, but this reading of it seems like it's trying to create a scandal.
99.99% sure that Steam and Epic will be available on it as well.
EDIT: We'll know more this week, it looks like. Good few MS talks at GDC on the future of Xbox.
Steam mightn't want to be on it if there Steam boxes are selling.
So after releasing the best selling Battlefield game, EA are gutting the battlefield development studio and support studios.
Sure, it may have been the most successful Battlefield game in years, selling incredibly well and being well-received, but it didn't hit 100m players which is what the EA execs expected it to, which means it's a massive failure and everyone except those execs should be at risk of losing their jobs.

Did anything interesting come out of the XBox GDC summit?
Not really. It's going to be a very powerful machine, with support for steam, etc, pretty much confirmed.
That's about it. Useful for developers, but that's about it.
No Bill Gates, no Dwayne Johnson. What are they doing with all those trillions.
Fortnite is raising the cost of V-bucks, because they need help paying the bills

Yes, Fortnite, needs help paying the bills. Fortnite.
Fortnite.
STOP GIVING THE ROCK MONEY!
If the children keep financing my free games every month then have at it!
Steam have confirmed the min requirements to get Machine and Frame verified. For the Machine, it just needs to reach a target of 30fps/1080, and the Frame requires 90fps for VR, but only 30fps/720 for 2d.
About time this was happening, any game with loot boxes or Gacha mechanics will be automatically rated at least 16+ by PEGI.
Fair play to PEGI but this won't change a thing. These needs to be banned for under 18 just as regular online gambling is, and generally fall under all rules and regulations that apply to gambling.
A gaming showcase exclusively for the weirdos and sickos. This is what I like to see!
One thing that's somewhat interesting about the Xbox GDC talks is how the "This Is An Xbox" idea has completely disappeared while they were on.
Seems like every trace is gone from their various websites.
Really does seem like this misadventure is the reason for the shuffling of personnel.
Bravely Default HD is now available on Xbox and PC. I'm surprised to see this skip Playstation with it now available on non Nintendo hardware.

More substantial GDC news than Microsoft’s vague teasing: the winners of the IGF Awards.
The excellent (based on the demo anyway) Titanium Court won the Seamus McNally Grand Prize. As usual, the nominee and winners list worth perusing for some super interesting games.
Must get around to Angeline Era, which seems to be Ys inspired.

Garbage
Zelda had AI years ago during gameplay ...
"Hey Copilot, if anyone shoots me in CoD, automatically send them a PM calling their mother a whore. Analyse their profile and determine if there are any racial slurs which would be appropriate. Write it in the style of a 14 year old so people don't realise I'm 42 and can't play as well as I used to because cold weather makes my arthritis flare up."
