Reports stating that Israel have launched an attack against Iran
Missiles and drones don’t always land where they should, I suppose.
They were in a deal, that Trump pulled out of.
They were negotiating a deal, that Trump ignored.
Maybe you should stop posting demonstrable nonsense?
Not a hope. Trump will be dead in 3-5 years, or less hopefully. Time is the one war he can't win thankfully.
The next president's term will revolve around undoing this disgrace and repairing Americas reputation with the world, which won't happen for a generation. When Iran are being encouraged to humiliate the US, you know you've been tangoed.
Trump has barely the attention span for a 5-day war rather than a 5-week one. He and Hegseth seemed more interested today in attacking the Brits and other 'allies' for daring to quibble about dreary old stuff like international law. FWIW I still hope some sort of positive outcome can emerge i.e. the fall of the Iranian regime and its replacement by something more tolerable for its people to live under, but it's difficult to see anything but the obstacles in the way of that.
It's an air war, maybe some specialised forces on the ground, it'll very likely be over in a few weeks. I can't stand Trump but in a very grim way it's an easy one to walk away from, physically and politically.
Keep in mind they are there to cripple Iranian nuclear progress and defang the country from the air. The decapitation strike will make any new Iranian leadership very wary of going down the same road + embolden Israel to do the same in future.
The key point is that the US aren't there to install a democracy, or any of that. Trump doesn't give a damn if the same assholes take over, he just wants a cowed muted Iran, one which is no longer a regional power.
This bit is key: "Iran appeared to fire significantly fewer munitions at Israel on March 1 than on February 28, which suggests that US-Israeli efforts to degrade Iran’s retaliatory capabilities are succeeding."
I don't understand who Iran is going to humiliate the US. Can you elaborate on how they are going to do this?
It could also be the case that Iran decided not to fire the same amount of missiles every day. A trend is hard to identify over a population of two days.
Negotiated settlements won't work for the 33,000 Iranians killed by their own regime. More in three weeks than Israel killed in a year.
I'm not saying they will. But despite a widely condemned regime, it has been impossible to ignore the commentary supporting Iran's cause against their agressor. Talks mean nothing to the US anymore and they will be treated that way in future.
I am intrigued to see the Russian response. The Russian federation is the largest supplier of arms to the Iranians and the two share close economic links. The history of the two countries is deeply intertwined, going back as far as the 14th century and cordial relations since the fall of the Soviet Union. I cannot imagine that Russia will support the obliteration of its ally. China is probably more equivocal and will probably sit on the fence. North Korea for historical reasons will likely follow the direction of the Russians. However, realistically, as a threat, their risk is negligible. I cannot imagine that these countries will be enthused by the idea of foreign powers just toppling regimens it sees as unfit. It sets a dangerous precedent. Yet, equally, this happened in 2003 and is happening again in 2026. So likely, countries will gripe behind the scenes or refuse to publicly condemn Iran, but they will not actively contest the current strikes

You're citing a think tank that is funded by military contractors. So they're pretty heavily biased in favour of justifying military action.
Is knowing Jewish people some sort of offence?
Israel and the US are systematically targeting their ability to do so.
Israel knew exactly where Khamenei was, the most guarded figure in Iran. They know where virtually every launch site, air defense site, munitions factory, etc are.
Over the next few weeks the Iranians will either be forced to disperse/hide equipment or lose it systematically. Either way it's to be expected that their launches will diminish down to a trickle. Not to mention their military leadership has been decimated, so decision-making is even slower.
Never starts with centuries. It’s typical Trump hyperbole. Given the amount of change we have seen in the last year, who knows how many countries will go nuclear even in the next few decades?
If the regime survives it will have to develop a closer relationship with China. That’s not what they would prefer but I don’t see any other option for them. Russia is finished.
MAD is predicated around having something to live for. If you create hellish circumstances, where life is cheap and every day is pointless, these people are more likely to pull the trigger because they have nothing to lose. The US is pushing countries down a dangerous route by making their societies worthless. He who has lost everything is free to do anything
During the tanker war, ships were given military escorts. This photo from 1987 shows a convoy leading with a helicopter towing a mine-clearing sled, then the frigate before the first civilian tanker.
I suspect a dedicated convoy/escort system could be stood up which would re-open the straits in a week or two, regardless of whether the shooting had stopped. The only notable catch is that the US Navy no longer has any frigates (long story), so it's either multi-national ops, destroyers being undertasked, or maybe some LCSs, which, to be fair, may work given the likely threat levels.
You will be disappointed/waiting forever. Russia will do nothing cause it can do nothing. At least not beyond their already existing asymmetric warfare nonsense they've been engaged in for a decade.
This requires a heavy degree of organisation and diplomacy, that I am not convinced lie within the remit of the US at the moment
It seems it is, merely by knowing Jewish people you go native.
I have seen some extraordinary posts on here, but the one you responded to really takes some beating.
Thats a very fearful response. Iran has been the major instigator of terrorism in the world for years. Terrorism has to be faced head on. You have peace now in Ireland because the IRA were faced down & beaten.
Fighting words there. You’re going to start a war on another front with that.
It's the truth so it has to be said.
Yet Iranians throughout the world are dancing in the streets.
For sure, but there was an Iranian expert on Drivetime this evening saying there is a three way split in Iranian public opinion - around one third oppose the regime and support the US / Israeli attack, another third support the Islamic regime and a final third oppose the regime and want a change of leadership but also oppose the US / Israeli attack. So the ones dancing in the streets in the West actually represent a minority in Iranian opinion.
No. Did I say that? I'm pointing out the clear bias the guy has when it comes to anything to do with the Middle East, he's even said himself that he knows a lot of Jewish people where he lives, and from what he comes out with I'm guessing he knows a lot of Zionists too. But yeah just lazily accuse me of anti-Semitism or whatever is next on the bingo card.
peace up north would not have been achieved without the IRA
They probably thought they were missiles.
Without being beaten first
