Hoping a New Thread may fix the posting issues.
Oh so we are being judged by stuff you read elsewhere nothing to do with us?? Ok cool, good to know.
I can't get my head around that either (TBH I think neither a penalties). But if we are to follow the same logic, Allison apparently gave VAR no choice but to award the penalty. But it wasn't even mentioned then today? What is the actual difference here? That was stonewall if the same rules are to be applied.
There is a thread going for over two years in after hours openly discussing it so not sure there is any problem discussing it anymore.
Good result, but a very sloppy performance again.
I was talking about the comments on here 😁
Great result
It was non existent in the second half
Game was box to box
Better teams would have punished us more but at least we are showing our quality up front ( ahem not Mo ) against the weaker teams but work needed in midfield because better teams won't let us off like WH did today
are you nuts we are conceding from set pieces all over the place
No, it wasn't that at all.
Before today West Ham had put a string of results together over their 5 or 6 games before today.
I'm delighted we won.
Yep, buy a legal subscription or go to the pub or a friend's house to watch.
Not allowed to talk about anything else here.
Despite 5-2 it was all bit meh. Lovely to feel relaxed through a game though, and the performance felt like it didn't matter so much because it was so comfortable on the scoreboard.
They seemed to embrace some chaos, which i think is always our best bet.
3 draws for Chelsea in the next 3 games would be good!
Chelsea have a horrid 2 months ahead of them. Just look at their fixtures. If they come out of that run still in the top 5 they'll deserve to take one of the spots. It really should be in our hands to make sure we secure a spot.
Oof I just noticed Arsenal have Chelsea tomorrow, could do us a massive favour
Haven’t had time to catch up with the thread but I am still disgusted that so little was made of that absolute stone wall penalty on Hugo. What difference was there been that and the one given against us against city bar he didn’t take the full contact in order to not possibly get hurt.
In an attacking sense, perhaps.
Yeh, that's a fair assessment, I think if it was stronger opposition we wouldn't have gotten away with so much complacency. However I kind of expected these few games Feb/Mar with weaker opposition to enable us to build some confidence and with it, gradually wean out our negative play and mistakes from earlier this season. So far so good, hopefully we can kick on against wolves x2 before we need to face Galatasaray away
Whoever the new set piece coach is they are hitting their targets and in line for the summer bonus.
Midfield was wide open in the first half, whenever Fernandes got on the ball he was a problem for us because there was nobody there to pressure the ball. Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Konate and Alisson all had moments where they lost their focus. We were fortunate that West Ham didn't capitalise on the mistakes in the first half.
He absolutly hates us with a passion
This city train ain't stopping until they get the league imo. Arsenal are going to crack, 10 games with city chasing you down would drive anyone crazy, Klopp knows all about it.
I wouldn't be surprised if Pep leaves and then next season they get the 50 point deduction or whatever. We better have our act together by the end of this season, because next one could be anybody's.
I also thought he was decent, and in fact he scored and created the own goal in the second half if I remember correctly, so all round one of our better players today. Salah wasn't really that bad either imo, overall our attack was good, subs were good, midfield decent, defence was poor
I would say the bulk of their xG was down to our 2 gifted defensive mistakes, Bowens in particular I imagine would have shown up pretty high, but he didn't have control of it.
I have a feeling we might not see Wirtz for a few weeks.
As a slight aside, I saw a few comments about Gakpo's goal, talking about it as his one trick coming off — for me that wasn't the classic Gakpo goal at all, but it was the thing I've been really wanting him to do more. The classic Gakpo goal is coming back out, around the outside of the box, not taking anyone on but rather just jogging around outside until he finds a shooting gap and then whips it into the far top corner. Today's goal meanwhile was him actually going in direct, driving straight into the box, taking players on and having a pop - it's what we often want Rio to come on and do for instance. Quite positive.
Gakpo has deservedly being criticised. He has been poor for lot of games. Slot weirdly will not drop him. That's on Slot though.
Tbf to Gakpo he had a decent enough game today, first half anyway.
Everyone can be criticised for their performance, Gakpo included. However, there is a nasty vibe to some of the stuff Gakpo gets from certain Liverpool fans. Not just here but online elsewhere.
My "jibe" was not necessarily directed at recent post on this thread, just the level of criticism Gakpo receives.
To give Salah a little credit, there were 2 passes that had they come off, we would be singing about him.
First one, Ali to Szob, I think, to Salah, cross from half way between half way line and box, lifted into box but keeper just got there. Almost landed on head of Eki.
Second one, the layoff to Szob, on to Eki, lovely feet but didn't come off.
Other than that, he was missing. The trend has been poor for many games and I don't understand Slots persistence with him for whole games. He was moved to the centre when Frimpong came on and his touch was woeful. Not a lot of time granted but a few here have felt it's a better space for him. I think he needs to be moved on but we should thank him for previous seasons. No need for sentiment when we need to win games.
I mean, the obvious point to be made is that one of those two had a really good game today, and one of them had a really bad game today… there's a trend where every time Gakpo does something wrong, it gets piled upon, while his positive contributions often get ignored. He was at the centre of much of our attacks today, all over the pitch. Wasn't perfect, but worked hard putting himself into as many attacking positions as possible. Mo unfortunately by contrast had a really poor one, and spent much of the game in hiding.
Dunno how to multi quote so here is the post from the previous page I'm referring to.
Very good, scored 5 and could very easily been 8.
Gakpo hugely involved - not a perfect game, a few mistakes, but a very good game. Kerkez very good on the left again. Szobo not quite up to his level, but still worked his balls off and got back in some important situations. The only real low point was unfortunately Mo. Just hiding out on the right again, taking too much out of the ball more often than not. Would have preferred he be the one to go central when Ekitike went off - think that's really the only way to get him into games now.
Still plenty to improve upon, but a far more relaxed watch than we've had in a while.
