Thanks for the help, lads, switch done!

On Energia, up for renewal. Night rate is 75% as we have 2 EVs. Miro Gen export is 2,500 units. Problem is most deals with suppliers offering a cheap night rate won't pay for micro gen, which is €450 credit at present.

Went through bonkers, was with Flogas on 24hr rate @36cent kW. Bonkers recommended Yuno Energy. 25 cent day, 13.5 night (11pm-8am) peak 29 cent. Seems to be good. Anyone else use Yuno?

No, but there's not a lot of good things said round these parts about them! Have a look a few pages back in this thread...

Currently with them, switched last November, no issues, their app is fine too, billing system takes a bit of getting used to, its monthly by credit card which may not suit everyone & they try to predict in advance what you’ll consume, I’m fine with them

Which suppliers don't pay micro gen payments on night rates?

Myself and a lot of other posters here are using the Pinergy night time plan (6c per unit 2-5am) and they pay 25c per unit for export.

36c that's mad Ted 😲. Just sign up online to the Flogas fixed 24hr smart plan, 22.5c per unit. Why would you sign up to a smart plan if you don't need it, believe me that clock watching becomes tiresome very quickly.

All suppliers in Ireland are required to pay micrco gen credit, regardless of what plan you are on.

Flogas wasn't coming up as an option for me when looking on bonkers. I had a look directly on their website. I went from 28c with bord gais to 22.5c. Looking at my previous 2 month bill it would have come in about €80 cheaper. Nice saving!

My smart meter still isn't sending my usage after switching to Flogas. Not sure if it's related to the move or a coincidence. ESB Networks said it's the mobile network and there's nothing they can do, didn't have an answer how it had worked for 2.5 years before and a number of neighbours were still working.

Flogas are currently investigating as they're not sure why this would happen. Meter shows full signal and I can't enter a reading with Flogas so god only knows how close their estimated usage is to my actual. Worked for about two weeks after the switch I think and then just completely stopped reporting usage.

Received my renewal from Flogas but it was not true to reality.

They said they would continue my previous years discounts and all I needed to do was click a button. After reading all the details on the screen they were clearly pushing me onto a table of rates for Day/Peak/Night which I didn't have before so it was a little disengenuos of them to say they were only going to be continuing my discounts because they were offering me the same percentage discounts but neglected to say they would change me onto a non 24hr priceplan.

I called them up and choose the other offer, Dual Fuel 24 Hr Smart Loyalty which closely matches my outgoing rates by around 2c a KW/H. They speak in Incl Vat prices on the phone but the email speaks in Excl Vat Prices. A lot of that information is a foreign language to some people.

I can understand why people just don't switch and just trust the supplier. I never do.

is it possible to choose a dual fuel with same company and have the bills staggered ie

    Jan electric

    Feb Gas

    March Electric

    Apr Gas

    etc

i want to change but don't want both bills the same month , Gas bill just gone @ €610 nearly killed me lol

You can do "level pay". They all call it something different. You pay a fixed price every month including in the summer when using little to no gas for example. You then can budget each month specific figures for gas and electricity. Costs nothing to arrange directly with them. I'm at it years. You'll still get normal bills but they won't debit the big Jan/Feb gas bill as it'll your agreed monthly figure instead.

They can review it annualy to see if the average payment will be enough. If you're in credit and leave you'll get that money back.

Just to be aware that some energy companies won't allow you to go on to a budget or level pay plan if you have a smart meter. I clicked budget pay when signing up with Flogas but bills had been varied since. Called them to request moving to it but they said it isn't possible.

Bord Gais are the same. I'm not sure about Electric Ireland. However Airtricity allow you to go on it, even with a smart meter as I was with them before on it. Airtricity require you to be with them for 12 months before they can move you on to budget pay.

Recently bought an EV so went with smart rate. 11pm to 8am charging car at 13.5 cent isnt bad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,630 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

I have an EV myself, I'm a small mileage driver now that all the dependants are driving, in my particular case the 22.5c actually works out cheaper than either the smart plan or the D/N plan. It's down to your particular usage and car mileage.

I have not seen a case ever of a supplier doing you a good deal (after the first year) without you having to ring them up or set in motion the process of leaving them. It's a pity but there's a small bit of leg work required on the consumers behalf annually to get the best deals.

Just to note that energypal.ie doesn`t seem to be always using the latest rates, so best to double check. For me Yuno Smart Electricty actually would be a little cheaper than the Flogas Smart Fixed Rate (26.6/13.5/32.6) which is shown as best option.

Not a whole lot so I am wondering which one to choose, both customer service seems abysmal.

Electric Ireland did a very good deal automatically for people rolling off a OneBigSwitch deal a few years ago.

But other than that, its usually a case of robbing the out of contract customers.

Flogas is fine by email I find if you're not in a hurry.

What’s the average time it’s taking for people to complete a switch from one provider to another? My contract ended with Electric Ireland on the 6th of February and I switched to a new provider using switcher.ie on the 6th but transfer did not go through until the 23rd of February.

In that time Electric Ireland increased my rate from €0.2075 to €0.3188.

Three or four days. I would never do the change through the comparison site, it adds pointless complexity.

Agreed. It's just adding a middleman and ends up costing you money, as the poster found out.

My year is up with my current supplier (energia) last week, I had done my homework last Friday and over the weekend, and a flogas deal came out thr best, tried to do the change over yesterday but it wouldn't allow me (I assumed because of it been sunday). I go on today and the deal I wanted is gone, along with what looked like many more, cheapest night rate offering now been 20.48 as opposed to 13.46 yesterday. Is this due to the start of a new month or other influences i.e. middle east conflicts?
