So thought I’d throw this up, in a similar style to the electricity and gas switching deals available
one big switch have a deal for eir Broadband €35 a month and €100 credit added to your account for new residential account holders, if you’ve had eir before use spouses name which I’ve done in the past
Strangely enough when my installer was leaving two years ago he said I might see you again if you change providers, I asked him why? He said different providers will get the ont changed. I thought it was odd. If I'm changing in April I'll see what happens.
Not normally afaik, unless maybe there was a new verison of the ONT available.
I have OpenEir installed and switched a few times and once the correct UAN/CRN was given, no engineer appointment was made and they just sent out their router to connect myself.
I gave an old UAN by mistake before and an appointment was made and they swapped the ONT on that occasion. I had to cancel the previous provider myself then as they thought I was still with them on the old ONT.
They shouldn't need to unless you're changing access provider i.e. Openeir to SIRO/Virgin or the other way around. Though the engineers are also not meant to touch another companies ONT and just leave it in situ whereas the fella I had replaced my SIRO ONT with an Openeir one so ymmv! Completely seems to depend on the fella on the day.
How would you know if VM ftth is available to you? What does their ftth set-up look like in the house, is it an internal ont like I have with openeir?
It should show on the ComReg website if its available to be installed (Virgin / Fibre / 5,000Mb/s) -
https://www.comreg.ie/broadbandchecker/
There's no ONT installed with Virgin through Virgin FTTP, you just connect the fibre patch cable from the NTU directly to the Hub 5x.
There's no "modem/bridge mode" with the Hub 5x and there's CGNAT and DS-Lite by default. You would have to use a WAS-110 etc. to replace it.
You can get Sky, Vodafone and Digiweb through Virgin FTTP also. A normal ONT is installed in that case and you can connect your own router to it. But as you've said you have OpenEir FTTP available anyway.
Any broadband deals?
Virgin Media - 500Mb €35pm / 1Gb €45pm / 12 or 24m contract / €100 bill credit on Switcher and Bonkers
Sky - 500Mb €30pm / 1Gb €35pm / 12m contract
Eir - 500Mb €34.99pm (12m contract) / 1Gb €39.99pm (24m contract) / Annual April price increase of €4 / €100 bill credit
Digiweb (SIRO) - 1Gb €37.95pm / 12m contract
Thank you
My 12 month contract is almost up with Pure.
Is there any issue with them to upgrade to another package they're offering for 12 months?
Or do I have to go about changing names on contract?
I rang them when my first year was ending enquiring when my contract date was, he offered me 500 for 35 I took it, sorted☺️, others aren't so lucky unfortunately. Try a phone call first.
Just an update on this cos you were so helpful, and thank you again!
My ONT wasn't switched on at the wall when I went through with the sale over the phone so it was registered as a new installation.
Took over a week of asking questions to figure that out talking to tech support.
Still waiting on the installer to check the exchange and switch on broadband 😅 hopefully by tomorrow it'll be working
Lesson for anyone else reconnecting.. power on the ONT before signing up 😄
Are these gone ?
They've seemed to remove the €100 credit on Switcher and Bonkers for Virgin now. But apart from that, they should all be the same.
Anyone with digiweb? How do you find them?
Sky are offering broadband for €40 for 12 months for switchers.
Been with them for 1GB Siro for a few years now and no problems at all. They have a great customer services team based in Ireland and really easy to deal with. When your 12 month contract is up, just give them a quick call and ask what deals are available for existing customers and they offer it to you straight away without the needless back and forth that I've seen with other providers.
I've never required Tech support but I've heard others have found them good too.
Did a year with them. The service was great it got messy when the contract came to an end I had to threaten them with comreg to get sorted, they're a take the money first kind of company and it's fcuk you if they're wrong. I wouldn't go back to them.
Renewed with Pure Telecom. Dropped the home phone and agreed €35 a month for 500mb with no mid term increase. Getting 489 download speed and 51 upload. Is there a better deal?
Sky maybe? I think they're still doing 500 for €30.
Sky are applying CPI increase in April to their 500mb package per website. 1GB package has no CPI.
If I was you I would be happy. Nearing my final first year with pure @500mb - works perfectly, and you can speak to an irishman in customer service if you should need. If I get offered the same deal I would be delighted!!
What router do you get with Pure?
Is Sky BB service any good - opinions? 30e/month 1Gb seems the best offer, but only if it is reliable.
It's €35pm for 1Gb with Sky, which shouldn't be affected by the price increase in April.
Have had Sky 500mb for 30pm since May & have had zero complaints.
I have a Fritz Box 7530 WR. Has not come down once in 18 months.
I was with Sky 4 years ago for fibre - an ONT was installed, I then left them when my contract was up & switched to VM, this was the coax set up. I left VM when my contract was up and went back to Sky, who had the existing ONT replaced with the exact same model.
Made no sense why but installer said something about a commission or something.
Why does this one not go up every month from April but the €30 offer does?
Huaweii but I don't use it, ONT connects straight to main Deco
yeah I got a Huawei router sent out from Pure last week before going with Digiweb which was a Zyxel for the 1GB
