Link please, but yes they do that for badly crashed cars. Once you get the repair recertifid at Tesla Service the access will be restored. If I had to guess they want to ensure the repairs were done safely due to risk of fire if battery pack, cooling system, or cabling faults are suspected after a crash.
Reminds me of the Youtuber who crashed his Model 3, then repaired it without Tesla's knowledge or inspection, and was moaning about being locked out of supercharging.
The certification process is (a) understandable, and (b) pretty straightforward, but hey - he got a lot of clicks from his online moaning.

I think there was even more to do with that. He crashed it. That’s on his channel. He got it repaired cheaply in some back street garage.
But he then went to Tesla and didn’t tell them about something which they were working on.
Was he actually locked out of the SuC network or just refused a warranty claim?
I haven’t heard of any Irl/UK cars banned from the network, you only hear of that in the states.
And of course none of that would be covered by an 8 year warranty that most EVs come with
The only reasonable guarantee of buying a new car and minimise total cost of ownership is buy an EV and buy one that is very good value compared to the rest of the offerings out there. Like a €32984 Model 3 standard with no options ticked.
3 year old EVs coming to their mid life with all sorts of expensive stuff going wrong and not covered by warranty is a load of nonsense. It doesn't happen. Certainly not Teslas. Anything to do with battery, motor or drivetrain is covered for 8 years

I am not sharing the link. All you need to know is that it is a professionally repaired Cat S UK car and according to Tesla forums Tesla demand around 1000 Sterling for an inspection. It invalidates it for FSD if that ever reaches this side of the Atlantic
Doesn't sound too bad in fairness. The seller would get back multiples if it was made superchargeable again and the buyer would get peace of mind that he's actually getting a properly repaired former wreck. I mean if you really wanted to buy a cat S car knowingly.

Looking for an efficient ev for daily commute , currently have a ev9 for the daily run around and ev6 GT for commute, tempted to go back to Tesla for a model 3 long range AWD, what is real world range for these on 18 inch wheels mixed driving 100km/h avg, would you lose your shirt if you traded in to Tesla directly, don't think there is any Kia to match Tesla efficiency. Thnks
EV6 and EV9 are more practical cars. The Model 3 is a saloon. Do you really need 600km range if you can charge every night? Or is it cost / efficiency you are thinking of? Even if the Kias would use double the electricity of the Tesla, that would be a few hundred quid per year savings. Nothing like the cost of depreciation on any new cars

Not saying you should swap from the Kia to a Tesla but I had an older 22 M3 AWD LR. Would do 400km at 120km/h with the 19” wheels.
It would average even better at 15.2 kWh/100km on dub to donegal trips as the roads up through the N2 are generally 100-110km/h.

Very true regarding depreciation, Since 2017, my approach has been to change cars 12 to 18 months old with 40 to 50k kms, in the good times, cost to change was 5k to 10k for the same model, of course 20% plus depreciation applies now, always thought that if it costs you practically nothing to run for 10 months of year, it was a small price to pay for keeping car within warranty and trouble free motoring along with new car. Equally, you could go down second hand route and have a cheap car to run but at a greater risk. No experience with Tesla Sandyford trade in for Tesla against a new Tesla, my Kia's could be near 25kw/100km versus Tesla 15kw/100km, so 5000kwh difference yearly, if I'm honest, it's more about ICCU failures if I kept the ev6 out of warranty.

the trade-in question is easy to answer - Tesla aren’t the ones giving you the trade-in offer, they simply offer your car to the country’s trade garages and whatever the highest offer back is, that’s what you get.
In other words, if you trade-in your current car to Tesla, expect a below-market price.
Outside of the main dealers, where they’re more incentivised to get you into a new model, it’s the same process in every garage in the country, it’s just that Tesla is more public about it.
Amazon are in about the same place in the AI race as Tesla are, but this planned investment is 10x what Tesla plan to spend this year.
I don’t believe either company tbh, but it’s a huge difference, and as we said last week, even if Tesla spend the $20bn, it will cut their cash position hugely, certainly not enough to cover the same investment in 2027.
I might be late to this, but Tesla have removed the autosteer function from all new cars in the US, forcing a buyer decision to either pay for an FSD subscription, or have a ‘dumb’ car, with no self drive feature beyond basic radar cruise control.
I suppose it’s one way for Elon to hit that 10m subscriptions target for his shares bonus.

On other Tesla news, naturally none of the naysayers in here nor any regular media reported it: Tesla again had superchargers charge cars for free in the USA in areas affected by power cuts because of the recent winter storm. The superchargers were NOT affected by the power cuts
Now why would money mad Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, do that? And not at least make sure that it was all over the media to make him look good?

Maybe Tesla customers should get more comfortable expressing annoyance at the decisions of the company's CEO, rather than getting defensive and ending up championing the removal of previously standard features.
It doesn't pay off for anyone to be blindly submissive to people like Musk, yet we see that a lot here.
Or maybe it’s worth accepting that many Tesla owners simply enjoy their cars and aren’t concerned with what the CEO does, because it doesn’t impact their day2day lives or how the car performs. The constant fixation on minor, non-issues with Tesla is getting tedious.
