actually, who is 'the vendor' in this situation? is the estate agent handling the sale the vendor, or is it the owner?
Postcode matches but those selling prices don't make sense unless someone took on a debt as part of the purchase or parts of the estate were sold individually.
Seems it was 100 odd acres at one stage but hugely reduced

As much as possible of the natural surfaces removed or covered with buildings, concrete or gravel. Tiles and ‘wooden’ floors instead of carpet anywhere etc etc

I doubt it! There's no privately held Van Gough in an Irish collection. Lots of home grown expensive stuff in households though!! Betya it was a Paul Henry, Francis Bacon, maybe Jack B Yeats, or a Louis le Brocquy, but most likely a Paul Henry if it was being discussed in an Irish school.

I got that impression too from the extra-ordinary wording from the estate agent and reading between the lines. Also, if someone was to be able to afford to pay 2.5 million for it years ago, they would not have let it go to such a state as it is in now / it would not have lost so much money.
I expect all the lead and copper has been removed……🙄

All going well until I got to the bedroom in pic 27. I hope that is a weird camera angle, otherwise those stairs (ladder?) are extremely steep! Also, never ever wander in the dark or in your sleep 😶

That is a very depressing looking place, and the bedroom with the stairs made me feel queasy just looking at it. How could you build an extension but not put a rail on the stairs?

The house a few pages had a "Sunflowers" are some art deco pieces, and somebody asked if they were real. They're obviously prints. That's was the point I was making - ("the classmate was most certainly not correct"). I guessed @Viscount Aggro was referring to a classmate saying "we have that painting at home" in relation to something famous, like Sunflowers - thinking the print was real. Maybe not.
I certainly wasn't suggesting there is a private Sunflowers in Ireland. Though there is one privately held original Sunflowers, in some unknown private collection. Could be anywhere.
I read 'this' in the loose sense of the word. In the way you might say 'this guy came up to me' meaning 'a guy came up to me'.
FWIW a friend's brother in law discovered that a couple of paintings his mum had at home were Paul Henrys. He had assumed they were prints of ones in the national gallery but when he visited the gallery he realised there were differences, and got talking to a staff member there about it.
So you are telling me your friend had the originals while the ones in a gallery were prints? 😜

yep, that was the case here.
i remember seeing an antiques roadshow where someone brought along a painting they thought was a copy of an orpen; the original hangs in the imperial war museum (orpen was a painter for the british army in WWI).
it turned out the painting that appeared on the roadshow was the 'original' in that orpen painted it, and then ran off a second version of it for the army.
It was a van Gogh painting of sunflowers.
The girls name was Quinn... they own Glen Dimplex.

IIRC Lochlann Quinn wasn't the majority shareholder of Glen Dimplex, he owned about a quarter of it. Martin Naughton was the primary owner.
They both were (are?) known for donations to the arts.

i was at school with the current CEO, son of the founder. i think Martin Naughton still lives at stackallen?
i think Fergal sold his house in howth and moved to the city centre a year or two ago.
