Hoping a New Thread may fix the posting issues.
Happy with that Andy news
There's alot of rumbling on Twitter but nothing official.
Great news on Robbo. Kerkez still looks fragile and Tsimikas as backup doesn't inspire confidence.
Maybe they are trying to get Alonso to cancel his holiday!
This summer is going to be a massive overhaul. It might have to be bigger than last summer. Lots of contracts to be considered and players to be signed. It's a World Cup too and it will probably be a stressful one. FSG might be thinking that the players might be in a better frame of mind coming back to some semblance of normality if they know the manager.
I'd imagine the inevitable sacking of Frank at Spurs probably put a spanner in the works.
Yeah, a lot of rumblings, but as usual mostly nonsense no doubt!
A little bit more on Robbo
Thank god for Spurs. They continue to make us look good.
Interesting, seems like somebody at the top was very decisive on this one. Personally I'm over the moon that Robertson is staying, albeit with a more limited role for obvious reasons. Although he will play less, hopefully it means less chance of him getting injured to for the World Cup. What a legend.
If a new manager comes in he may get even more minutes.
Risky transfer anyway with both clubs on the verge of sacking their managers.
I don't think it's fair to say the club are on the verge of sacking the manager.
He'll be here for the rest of the season.
Things can change quickly if he can't maintain a CL position. The club will absolutely be very decisive if they think they won't get CL imo. Chelsea united and villa are all performing well at the moment, albeit perhaps they will return to poor form, but perhaps they won't….
It comes down to a choice CL or no CL. If they feel a new manager will achieve it and Slot won't, it becomes an easy and perhaps inevitable decision. Especially if you consider a good new manager could also win the bloody thing this year too.
They didn't pull the trigger on Klopp in 22/23. I know he had a lot more credit in the bank but I think Slot has some too.
If they are knocked out of the FA Cup and CL quickly and fall away in the league, then replacing him becomes a real possibility. I don't see it before then. I might be wrong if course.
That's another knock on affect of his terrible squad management. The players know they won't be dropped because Slot only uses 14 players so they know they can afford to lose concentration or whatever.
We are falling away in the league at the moment unfortunately
From a club management perspective Klopp didn’t really do much to justify that decision though after. In the end he decided to get out clean himself soon after really. And he had way more credit in the bank
Klopp was dealing with a massive injury crisis.
There's just no comparison with Slot in 22/23.
7 seasons of CL and trophies, an actual identity, genuine man management ability.
It never got this bad either.
He got them into the CL places on 22/23, challenged for the title and won the CC in 23/24.
Completely transformed the midfield, facilitating a league win in 24/25.
They finished 5th in 2022/2023.
Are we just ignoring the injury crisis?
There wasn't THAT much of an injury crisis in 22/23, not really any more than we're seeing this year. Are you thinking of 20/21 maybe?
But wasn't that a bit like this season when we went into season with only 3 centrehalfs, two of them crocks and then VVD got that season ending injury. Klopp wrongly decided to try play midfielders as centre halfs because shock horror he didn't trust Phillips and Williams. So trusting certain players isn't just the trait of one manager. Maybe my memory is not the best but in general injuries for the rest of the squad was quite the norm. It was only when klopp put the midfielders back in position and went with Phillips/Williams did results pick up again?
That CB issue season was 20/21, not 22/23. 20/21 was a bad one alright, but the year we finished 5th was 22/23, and injuries were not so bad that year. We had some alright, but not anything any worse than this year (I think this year's injuries have been more impactful actually tbh). Back in 22/23 Virg was fit all year, at least one of Konate/Gomez/Matip were always fit, Hendo, Fabinho, Milner, and Elliott were fit all year, Mo was available all year, and we had some other injuries up front but some combo from Jota, Diaz, Nunez, Gakpo, and Firmino were also fit at any given time.
Yeah its the 20/21 season I was referring to and the one I thought the poster was talking about because I don't remember any other season where we had an injury "crisis".
We have been very unlucky with injuries this season(not complaining though, its part and parcel of the game),I think the results and performances as a whole has been a distraction in that
Yeah that other poster was — in both of their comments citing injuries — replying to the posts about our 5th place 22/23 season. Injuries weren't the issue then though, we were just trash. That's the year that sparked a complete midfield rebuild after Klopp's loyalty to Hendo and Fab, who were utterly atrocious all year, while Milner, Ox, and Thiago were all out of contract.
A bit like Slot's loyalty to certain players this season is a major problem.
"I'm not into sacking managers like the rest of yall"…and then proceeds to advocate sacking the manager 🙄
We're not suffering an injury crisis now, as much as we're suffering a poor squad depth crisis.
One (unproven youth) CB, one CF, one RB, who else is out long term injured?
Injuries, depth, squad planning are all issues…..
But I still think this lineup should be more than good enough to beat Burnley at Anfield:
Or Leeds at Anfield:
Or Sunderland at Anfield:
It's not a perfect squad but I believe there is a whole lot of talent in it that the coaches aren't getting the best out of…..they're not getting anything out of it really.
