The Hyundai INSTER sub-compact EV with 355km range will be officially released later this month. It was teased today and based on the CASPER ICE model available in some markets. Thoughts?
02 and Elegance model have 49 kw battery.
Does your car have a 3 pin socket for V2L to charge laptops etc?
No, just USB-C's
All modern laptops are charged USB-C so you're covered.
If the plug socket and external adaptor is available it would definitely be more appealing to us as the car could charge a range of products as well as being a back up generator
Like the famous "travel kettle" aye 😂
and my electric hot water bottle 😁
Went from a Qashqai to an Inster and the best decision we ever made, despite the ICCU issues.
This isn't the case. They don't keep them in stock as each one has to be approved by Hyundai and only issued when a fault code has been triggered. Also I believe dealers are now saying they won't fit new ICCUs and advising you to drop to 90% charge rate until a software fix comes out.
What model do you have?
Software fix… our Ioniq 5 had 3 ICCU software fixes to date and it still failed recently.
Only quoting what others have been told by the dealers. I got a full ICCU replacement.
Similar, our Ioniq 5 had 2 software fixes and ICCU still failed last Autumn. Also on third 12V battery, possibly due to ICCU problems but not recognised by Hyundai.
47KwH Elegance. For us the big concern was space, as were used to going to Ikea or elsewhere and putting loads of stuff in. We haven't had an issue with the Inster, so much room.
It's only ever me and my wife in the car so it's basically like a wee van for me with the seats always down and covered in a tarp for lugging coal, pets, rubbish etc (not worth a wheelie bin service where I live rurally, so regular trips to the dump needed!). I've over 20,000kms done on mine already and have had zero issues at all, rented a car in the US over Christmas and felt like a peasant going back to not having a heated wheel this time of year.
How many kms do you have on your 2nd ICCU so far if you don't mind me asking?
About 5K kms
Hi, how is everyone's range going now we are in the winter months?
Seeing around 190km at this point in mild weather under 10 degrees as opposed to 380 in summer time.
380kms actual range? That's good!
Or it's just a GOM figure on the dash?
So it sounds like the ICCU can fail multiple times. What will happen after the five year warranty. I guess you may not get a new warranty on the unit every time it's changed, so once the warranty expires you'd have to foot the bill for replacement?
Even if they gave you good will on a unit, they would likely charge labour?
Any idea on the cost of replacement out of warranty?
260KM for me at the minute and 340KM in the Summer. I always have the car on 23° and level one on the Auto unless it's really cold, so might be a right bit less for someone who likes things toasty.
Actual range worked out mathematically, or just what the dashboard predicts? They can be way off.
Actually been up over 400km at times too (on eco). Did a run to Belfast in the summer and it was mega efficient.
260km is very good in winter. Is that an 80% charge or 100%?
And is it actual range (kms / kwhs used) or what the dashboard says when you sit in the car?
100% charge. My commute to work is exactly 25kms each way and it's using around 19% battery a day at the minute for the journey vs 14-15% in the summer.
For me its actual range, as I drive it. The dashboard tells me at times I can do 270km as top range in winter.. like how??? all electrics off and no passengers :)
Integrated Charging Control Unit
It’s the box that controls charging, on board equipment etc.
If it fails the car is bricked.
Largest EV component failure, hundreds thousand recalls worldwide.
Yet people are still buying Hyundais, so why should they do anything?
When folks vote with their feet and stop buying, then the problem will be fixed, you can be sure of that.
Got a message recently about booking in for first 12 month service on the Inster. I've queried this with the dealer, as the user manual suggests 24 months as the normal maintenance schedule. I assume this is the Hyundai 'health check' that i've seen mentioned a few times on other forums. Waiting to hear back from the dealer with more info but i'll likely get more info from this page!
Has anyone gone ahead with the 12 months/15,000kms service and have any idea of what is involved and costs? I know i've a few recall notices to get sorted out as well.
This also just reminded me that when I bought I got the offer of a €500 Brown Thomas voucher or €500 service voucher. I picked the service voucher and was told it'd arrive by post, which i've also just realised never happened! Anyone else choose/receive the service voucher?
