Hoping a New Thread may fix the posting issues.
I really think that drop off is overegged when compared with Kerkez's (and the team's) general performances this season.
I mean Robertson made some mistakes against Fulham in particular, and got badly skinned by Sakha for Arsenal's goal at the Emirates.
On the otherhand, Kerkez let Bruno score a silly header at SJP, same at Brentford, refused to use his bad foot to clear before Palace's winner etc.
Look. I suppose you persist with the new guy cos he is young and you have invested your money (and personal reputation) in him but Robbo was part pf a back 4 that had the league wrapped up by Spring which is a helluva thing compared to where we are (won't even mention the monumental achievement of automatic WC qualification with Scotland).
I love Andy but Kerkez is the future.
I said Robbo last year. He's hardly played this season.
Andy Robertson with a broken foot is still a better footballer than Tsimikas. If we were in a champions League final or even a game where only a win would get us champions league qualification and we needed to sub off Kerkez, I'd have Andy in a cast over the greek. The lad is very likeable but he's a headless chicken. A slight upgrade on the donut that was Albert Moreno.
Letting him go mid season is absolutely crazy. I don't care what kind of a fee is involved.
He wants to leave, what are the club supposed to do?
Clearly break his leg. Then we can bring him on in the CL final when we are losing.
So did I.
The Arsenal and Fulham examples of errors were from last season
He has a contract to the end of the season. Tell him it's not up for debate. He's staying till that runs out. It's very simple
It's a world cup year, that's the defining factor in leaving before the summer, wants to play more.
I always appreciate Robbo coming off at half time against Barcelona when we still needed 3 goals to win the tie and Gini Wijnaldum came on to replace him
That's fair enough from a Robbo point of view but the club has to be selfish here. We're massively short on defenders. The current #1 left back has been very good of late but still isn't the finished article. The way he runs and runs means he's going to run out of steam the odd day after 70 mins.
Who really wants Tsimikas coming on then? Klopps man management would have helped him get thru the odd bad game, Slot is the opposite. The loan spell shows he's not wanted or trusted. A bad performance and he might not be seen again. And Robbo is gone at that stage with nobody else to play there.
Yeah that would be a great way to treat a club stalwart, hold him to ransom basically,Robertson wanted to leave last summer and the deal fell through,Why would you want to hold someone against their will? That really sends out a great message for any players who might sign for the club in the future
Some real mental gymnastics going on with that statement,so if Tsimikas had a bad game under Klopp it would be ok because klopp would help him through it,how exactly would he help him through it? And if Tsimikas had a bad game under Slot, then its all Slot's fault?
That's a **** way to treat a player who's been a great player/person at the club.
Klopp had a lot of players who weren't good enough but his man management gave them the confidence to go again after a poor performance when there wasn't anybody else available.
Slot isn't that type of manager. If your not good enough then your not gonna play. I'm still strongly in the Slot camp but his reluctance to use fringe players cos he doesn't trust them enough could be his downfall. I really hope the stalwarts of the season(VVD, Konate, Grav, Szob) don't run out of gas with 5/6/7 games to go because the lads sitting on the bench aren't used in the last 20/25 mins of games.
Who do you bring on with 20/25 mins left to replace VVD/Konate when we have only 3 centre halfs and one of them is Gomez who is almost always injured?
Klopp perhaps had more experience in that sense. He had the “aura” as kids say. Slot seems a bit more matter of fact.
I think also that Slot is fighting a bit for his Jon right now, in a way Klopp never did. He (Slot) probably doesn’t have much time for kid gloves right now.
Nobody disagrees Robbo had a massive drop off last season, comparisons with Kerkez are a tad unfair however halfway through his first season - let's remember Robbo didn't play a game until about November after signing, whereas Kerkez was thrown right into the deep end.
Robbo, one of my favourite players ever, club legend.
He wants and needs first team football to prepare for a world cup, after everything he has given to the club he deserves the chance to leave on his terms. He owes us absolutely nothing.
Signed for 8M and turned into the best left back in world football for a solid 3 years, and easily in the top 5 for most of the rest of his career.
I'll be really sad to see him tog out for another team not going to lie, but if that's his wish good luck to him.
It was 2018 when Mourinho said he was tired watching Robertson run, time catches up,he has lost the intensity,he deserves some respect,if he wants to go to get more playing time let him go.
Robertson deserves to do what he wants to do. Plus a good contract to cap off a fine career.
I think we've seen enough from Kerkez in recent weeks to back him as first choice going forward.
I be sad to see him go. I was at the game he replaced Moreno and he never looked back.
Endō
So you would be happy enough with Endo coming on for either Konate or VVD with 20/25 mins left in games this season? also have to consider the difficulty we have had defending set pieces and the height we would be conceding with Endo
Wouldn't be happy, but, might not have any other option.
Exactly if needed then that is the only option but wouldn't be bringing him on there on a regular basis
Stand out memory of Andy Robertson's drive and energy was a game against city. Love the guy and if wants to leave, then there's no way id begrudge him.
Im getting old, I can't remember how to post YouTube clips ;)
This is exactly how you put it "So ultimately I think Robbo wanting to leave is a result of Slot not managing players effectively". Not that ambigous.
I honestly don't have a bee in my bonnet for you (I don't even recognise your username) or anyone else. I just respond to posts I spot which I either agree or disagree with which I think is the point of these threads. I play the ball not the man / woman.
Don't take it it too personally, sorry if I hurt your feelings.
Im not sure Kerkez playing alright or better than alright for 3 or 4 games recently is enough to convince many.
Writing on the wall though it seems
I think it was at that point he all won us over. An iconic Klopp era moment!
I've said since day 1 just how much I hate this new champion's league format. I hate it and think it's just the first step towards a new super league.
