I don't think he was trying to back heel it at all. It looked to me he was trying to step on the ball to then roll it forward for himself to hoof it and made an absolute balls of it.
He was definitely trying to do some sort of clever flick one way or another, the reward is just never worth the risk in that position.

People are irritated that when Chiesa was scoring or assisting every 32 minutes over the first 2 months of the season, his usage went down instead of up. If you're not gonna give time to someone making those sorts of differences, whats the point? Unsurprisingly, getting frozen out over the next months has seem him drop off (though he still works his balls off, and tonight has worked as a good foil for Frimpong to open space). I've no doubt that - like every other player on earth - given some consistent time we might see a bit more form out of him again. We've literally already seen this season what he can add when coming in sharp after preseason.
