Not one current academy player in the squad, which is a disgrace given the competition and the opposition. I can see why a few young players are looking to leave Liverpool, because of the lack of a pathway to the first time. Joshua Abe being one, and apparently the biggest talent that the academy has had in a few years. Slot really is poor in that sense.
To be fair he's clearly taking it seriously and putting our first squad up. Who would you remove from that to put academy players in?
I think with the season we're having and the few upsets already this weekend it's right to have a strong team and get the win.
Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Slot was criticised for going with too much of a weak team last year,now its too strong...
Qarabag will hopefully be the opportunity to play academy players, not tonight.
Very few of them are anywhere close as we've seen before, the ones that are like Nyoni and Rio have already moved to first team training in the summer and will be involved today. Nallo has been a disaster when used.
He has started a strong team and I thought he would. Which is fine.
But he doesn't need the likes of Kerkez, Wirtz, Gravenberch for example on the bench. Konate I would have included but there could be a plan for him & VVD or even Gomez to share the minutes there. Start strong and rotate, fine. Ekitike needs the minutes on come back from injury. Fine
But hypothetically if he goes bringing those players on while winning 2-0, it's a waste of time.
Is Joshua Abe the guy with Trent’s brother as an agent? I think there’s some power plays going on there.
Not sure but there are some strong rumours that he is considering switching to Chelsea as he feels there is a pathway to the first team there. Which is pretty alarming tbh.
Yeah he went overboard against Plymouth in that game alright and didn't have the balance correct. But the squad tonight sends a real message to the academy players and coaches that they are not good enough and won't be considered by Slot.
Calvin Ramsey has zero future at Liverpool yet he is picked to pick up a space on the bench ahead of academy players. Endo had zero future at Liverpool under Slot and he is picked ahead of academy players.
Slot refuses to use these players and the academy players know this, and where they lie below them. It's a very bad message to send.
Good points above lads. These lads have to have a path into the team, it was a strength of Liverpool in recent years, and it seems it's now a weakness. There has been a clear out of academy talent in recent years, even the likes of Quansah and Harvey, Tyler Morton and was given short shift. Where's (is it) McDonald? that played some of the cuo games in recent years?
There re plenty of talented players around the club.
Would've hoped Van Dijk could sit one out but I'm mostly happy with that line up, especially if we can wrap it up early and get some players off.

Qarabag are no pushovers… anything lies than a fully focused performance could easily see an upset. Gurban Gurbanov is one of the most underrated managers in Europe.

I think he has been poor on the ball the last few weeks. Off of the ball, he has been brilliant himself.
