It was a pretty liberal application of the term "Christmas Song". I didn't hear much, due to the fact that I'm Christmas-Songed-Out, but "We All Stand Together" isn't a Christmas song as such. Neither come to think of it is Stay Another Day, but the addition of some bells to the track did the trick.

as it’s globally streamed it’s a lot of American stuff so far along with songs from social media and films so far so not great

they would have been better just doing a holiday breakfast show from 9 am rather than this. If the station is really down to just him and Truffles you’d have to wonder if it’s sustainable.
On the top 100’s they are using Al Dunne to do 75-51 - wouldn’t be surprised if he gets more daytime V/T stuff to cover the gap left by Ronan and Rick
Will also cleverly filled in his other pre-recorded links with news content items that were already covered before Christmas (toll road price increases kicking in for commuters today, 2026 concerts).
There was a bit of a snafu last night when rte1 switched to rte gold an hour early. Cathal Murray was Late Dating on rte1 till 1am, but the station switched to gold after the midnight news (which didn't broadcast properly either).
A few seconds of dead air followed, before Cathal was back on air to finish his show.
The switchover happened (correctly) after the 1am news.
Their automation equipment is clearly ancient. Either that or nobody knows how to use it or possibly nobody cares!
This is the first time I have heard a non RTE Gold staff presenter being part of a Top 100 countdown on Gold.
Mickey Mac did one or two. Tubridy did a bit of their Beatles Top 100 I recall.

A wild guess but I've a feeling ex 2FM presenter aifric o'connell might be part of this...I think she's an RTE staffer and apart from being a contributor on some Radio 1 shows since 2FM breakfast departure in early 2025, she has not been on air or maybe she's a producer of sorts in RTE TV or Radio ??
I very much doubt RTE Gold will fill weekday slots with a contractor presenter !
Well he did say the Top 10 at 10 would be back so I’m guessing it will be a similar set up to Ronan Collins - not live and maybe afternoons will be mainly live as they were with Rick?
She presented the radio documentary, Rory McIlroy's Holywood Ending, over the Christmas break. A strange choice, they must have been looking to find something for her to do.
She with the 2 johnnies full time now and there touring Australia soon so I imagine she left rte
if she has, strange how she is brought in from the external world and pops up on RTE Radio 1 from time to time, when there are others already employed by RTE that could contribute just as good ??
Will introduced Truffles as doing robojock this morning (referring to Ronan's old slot 10am to 1pm). He must be babysitting the music output, no voice links I suspect adding his own choices or any requests that come in …… not just letting it run.
Used to happen sometimes when Rick was off from the same slot (if a presenter such as Aidan or Amanda did not already step in)

He probably was serious. On previous such occasions, I have whatsapp'ed truffles and he has played my songs.

not as bad as bette midler's version of "wind belong my wings" playing now on Gold, so boring and so very long. up there with "my heart will go on" and "don't want to miss a thing"

In 2005, 2FM only had this on vinyl for their Top 100 one hit wonders on a Bank Holiday.
I assume it is the same vinyl rip on file they are playing today.
