The only issue he should be addressing with RTE is … paying back money for staying past retirement age, denying other people a chance to work there.
I can’t imagine there all that many bright eyed bushy tailed Gen Z types all that excited about playing their grandparents music
I see online in the Sunday Independent (paywall) that he mentions red tape . I cant read the article but wonder is the red tape because they couldnt or wouldnt replace Amanda Fennelly as his producer
sorry should have put ronan collins in there as the he…
They wanted him to setup / incorporate as a company rather than a sole trader. He said he didnt see it making sense at this stage.
want yo make sure he don’t claim he’s still an employee?
Yeah it's probably driven by that.
I never thought Ronan Collins was up to national broadcast standard. I didn't like his presentation style. He's been beyond lucky to last as long as he did.
Al Dunne is always mentioning his production company Unique Media. Who else in the Irish radio industry is set up like this -Dusty Rhodes?
and why would or should he do that? he was working/in the employment of rte and got payment for, well you know, doing his job, therefore he owes nothing and has no obligation to pay anything nor should he. also, he has no obligation to retire just to give someone else a chance, nobody is owed or entitled to a job in radio or anything else and it's not up to employees to leave their job to give it to others.
Tubs is not coming back to RTÉ, can we please stop having the same conversation over and over again.
think you are responding to something nobody said
Probably a response to this post:
Yeah, probably that. Couldn't help myself.
It was the way the announcements came a few hours apart on the same day.
Probably nothing in it 🙄
Just seen Fergal D'arcy post on his socials that he's "coming out of retirement" to do Christmas eve drive (3pm to 6pm) on 2fm. He mightn't be a bad shout for either Ronan or Rick's old slots.
If Will Leahy goes, that's pretty much the end of RTÉ Gold as a station in its own right.
you couldn't have picked a more worse example of who could take over from ronan or rick…. obviously you are not being serious.
who said anything about will leahy going anyway?
When Fergal was active, his outside the pale presenting style (a lighter version of the 2 Jonnies) was a bit divisive but he was an excellent champion for new Irish music. He presented the Irish music show on Today FM before Claire Beck. The guy knows his music and RTÉ Gold isn't the kind of station that encourages Whats App voice messages about ketchup in the cupboard or the fridge or whatever everyone is moaning about these days. I think he is a natural successor to Rick.
Today is Ronan's final show on RTE after 46 and a half years, I wonder will he present this mornings show live or is it 'already in the can' ?
I doubt it. On Fergal Darcy he would have to be a full time RTE employee to get the gig with nothing else for him. They usually only give GOLD slots to those "surplus" to other RTE rolls or ex 2FM such as Will and Rick.
Somehow apt he's doing 1980. He informed me ( and his other listeners) on the morning of 8th December of that year that John Lennon had been shot.
The only mention of it was during his last link around 12:45 or so. The Last DJ by Tom Petty was the last song he introduced, but a few more were played up until 1.
If his producer didn’t script it he ain’t saying it
While I know his show was voicetracked, the lack of any mention of Chris Rea today made it even more obvious I think.
Cmon lads!
This fella is swinging a golf club somewhere sunny today. He don't care enough to do a few well crafted links and features on his last show.
What did you expect from a notoriously prickly character like Collins?
He came across as a bit of a moany hole in his last interview.
There was no reason to have him on Gold. He added very very little in his time there.
I quite liked old Ronan, especially for his spikeness. It makes a change from the Smashie and Nicey type.
He must be one of the few who would sometimes read out the negative texts he recieved.
Was Ronan giving a bit of a push so ?
He did not even get a chance to say bye!!
He did get a chance to say bye, it seems he just didn't make much of it.
Starting Christmas Eve at 11am will be the Top 100 Christmas Songs.
nothing original about this. they couldve done something different such as: Top 100 songs that were high in the charts at christmas, or Top 100 Christmas songs by Irish artists only.
How about the Top 100 Christmas Songs that never get played on radio??
