"I've got scchumthin' to tell you"
Gold, and other lesser stations like Classic Hits etc, they fkn love Boyzone and Westlife. Utter tripe, but sadly, there's a listening audience for them.. There are few artists/songs I will switch off a radio station for, and both the above meet that criteria.
announced today on Gold that Gold presenter / producer Amanda Fennelly is leaving RTE.
that’s a shame - really liked her when she presented. Hopefully will appear somewhere else on the airwaves in the new year
That’s a pity, enjoyed her on Saturdays.
wasn’t she running the station with Aidan and Truffles? That’s 2 out 3 gone
She must of took redundancy
would expect so - Backhurst was saying they were trying to get more leavers before end of December
she did say she really enjoyed working with Aidan so maybe his leaving has made the environment less fun
Amanda previously worked on 2FM as a researcher/producer.
Also with Aidan and Rick no longer around, that is one less presenter to present Golds Top 100s on bank holidays (as usually presented by RTE Gold staffers - not contract presenters Ronan Collins, Micky Mac, Al Dunne, Eric Moore etc).
Michael, Will, Eric (Truffles) and Carol seem to be the RTE staffers currently remaining on Gold - not sure if Eric and Carol have other roles within RTE??.
Michael is still a 2FM producer and Will has his own Solicitor job.
Still no word on Rick's future with the station.
For a station with so much potential and appreciation by the old 2FM listeners, it unfortunately seems a bit all over the place over on Gold since Aidan departed.
Assuming they can re deploy some of the staff working on the other digital stations to Gold after the end of December. Or maybe they want them of the books too?
Jon Kenny certainly picks his own playlist for breakfast. 3 hours of New Order and AC/DC type records!
pity he is not on more often on Gold (certainly he could cover for Rick a few days a week, if sports allowed him to), anyway as a DJ with a mostly a metal / rock and sports background on RTE, I thought it was funny hearing him mention daniel o'donnells birthday today, as part of the celebrity birthday slot.
I lked Amanda on Gold, I'm sad to see her depart, but happy for her if it's what she wanted to do. Things are not looking good for Gold these days unfortunately. I'm sick of Dave Fanning as well at this stage!
Dave Fanning sounds very out of place - even for voice tracked it sounds very stale. I turn off when I hear his signature tune
Looks like there will be no Carol Moran this week.
Aidan and Amanda gone this year, looks like they have not yet been replaced as station head / producer.
Interesting what the new year will bring for Gold, hopefully more publicity and effort as most of the other RTE digital stations will be gone.
I don't think voice tracking and having a script suits Dave, even though he was no stranger to it on 2FM, back as far as 2000.
The whole thing about Dave's Radio 2 / 2FM 'Rock Shows' was the unpredictability of it and of him being disorganised.
hopefully not Ryan Tubridy
He will NEVER return to RTÉ. Full stop.
Ronan Collins leaves RTÉ Gold next Tuesday.
Calling Ryan Tubridy, calling Ryan Tubridy!
Please report to the Gold office in the new year.
What a curious bit of media choreography today.
He was asked why he was stoping and he said he couldn’t come to agreement with RTE. He wanted to go one way and they wanted to go another way. Whatever that means!
It probably means he wanted to stay, when they were letting him go.
Losing his producer amanda fennelly who has left RTE, probably has something to do with it (Ronan needs a Producer and RTE don't have one to take her place). amanda put his 3 hour show together, including scripting the links.
Ronan has consistently been on daily national radio since May 1979 (since the start of RTE Radio 2).
46.5 years …Nobody else has achieved this consistent longevity!!
Really? I think his music choices are fantastic. I like the whimsy of Gold, but a bit of proper rock and indie in the evenings is much appreciated in my house.
Jaysus, it didn't sound like there was much scripting in them links!
No wonder she left if that's what she was reduced to as a producer.
So instead of closing it they are now more or less changing its whole attraction and making more automated i would guess.
Yes. The feeling always seems to have been that outside of maybe a live breakfast show the music itself is the great attraction and presenters are an optional extra.
With the constraints on hiring, no extra allowances for existing staff, no more freelancers it doesn't look good for much expansion there in the medium term.
It doesn't look great to look for 400 voluntary redundancies, funded by the taxpayer and then pack a thing that's not even on FM with has beens and never weres.
Ronan sounded pretty automated for me....
Did he really need a producer to write: "and that was X from 1973 playing Y. And up next is A singing B from 1989"... ?
Amanda would have chosen the songs and done much more scripting than this, each song had facts and figures etc especially on the mystery year segment. I would also assume Ronan had a sound engineer in studio with him too and someone had to clip the links and songs together…it was probably amanda who did all of this.
It was a makey up job so at that rate for Ronan
I had a feeling that he wasn't choosing the music, it wasn't anything like what he used to play on Radio 1. But I also remember him saying that he got offers from other stations and turned them down because he wouldn't have had any control of the playlist.
Ronan has had an amazing career in RTÉ ..
It is very disappointing that he is leaving RTÉ Gold - there are so few of the class of 79 - RTÉ Radio 2 left on the wireless…
What is up at GOLD - ?
