One of the gunmen was shot dead by cops apparently. They were targeting a Jewish festival it seems.

Going to the beach as a Jewish person celebrating Hanukkah you mean? Why not be specific about who the targets appear to be at this stage? A terrorist attack against jews. Listening to the news on the BBC and they haven’t yet said anything about the targets being Jewish.
They reports “non verified reports” that members of the public tried to grab the weapons - and THEN the other presenter said “we won’t speculate further than what we already know”!

There was a Hanukkah event on at the location of the shooting from 5pm to 9pm local time. The shooting broke out just before 7pm

Also when they said it in the headlines they moved straight on from reporting Bondi Beach to reporting the shootings at Brown University. As though the Aus attack was “just another shooting” such as happens every day in the US.

Well if the police have those who were doing the shooting in custody presumably the motive and target(s) will become clear soon enough.

'At least ten' according to the Irish times headline.
I gave you two: one to an attack using a flamethrower on people simply calling for the hostages to be released - so not supporting genocide but nearly all Jews because funny enough nobody else seemed to care much about the hostages - and one to a march in London two days after the attack on a synagogue in Manchester where a guy was quoted actually defending the Manchester attack. So more than just hypothetical at that stage.
