Prima Facie sold out in about four minutes. I know it was the Gaiety but I was surprised with no queue or waiting room.
Just wondering what would people be expecting from Fontaines now that they are announced for Reading/Leeds and EP?
Think they’ll turn up at other European festivals or do their own headline shows?
They are playing smaller festivals in Austria and France as well. If you are wondering about a headline show here, I'd say it is highly unlikely until Winter next year
electric picnic is start of new album tour. Would expect European arenas in 2027
Glasto 2027 headliner for sure.
Wouldn't be so confident. If they've done their run of random festivals in 25/26 they're not as exclusive.
Unless they bring out a new acclaimed album. Prob headline a second stage of course but pyramid stage no.
Olivia Rodrigo, Arctic Monkeys, Dua Lipa, and Billie Eilish are all example of recent Glastonbury headliners who toured relentlessly around the time they did it.
and all of those vastly more popular than Fontaines. probably either other stage headliner or pyramid sub in 2027
Any word on if the In The Meadows line-up will be out this side of Christmas?
Yea can see Fontaines headlining other stage or sub pyramid
Avenged Sevenfold and Good Charlotte set to announce a tour, Toronto date is tbc
nope. If ATN only getting announced this week don’g see POD announcing in the meadows or forbidden fruit till end January
Re. Rodrigo and Eilish, sure, but in two years time with another album that will likely be critically and commercially acclaimed in liue of four previous ones I reckon they will have amassed more than enough hits to do it.
Also, I made these comparisons in light of touring schedules, you seem to have interpreted this as a one channel populatity contest. It doesn't really matter if they are significantly more popular than the fontaines, they are all pop headliners who aren't competing directly with the lads for a spot, with the exception of Arctic Monkeys, who to further reinforce the point on the Fontaines, are directly compared as a significant band of the 21st century, as in nobody has reached the dizzying heights except for... The Fontaines.
They are going to headline Glastonbury soon, if not on merit alone by virtue of the fact theybare the last of a dying breed of massive arena commercial rock bands.
Isn't Slam Dunk a UK exclusive for Good Charlotte ?
I'd bet my house on them headlining Glasto '27. Unless the new album bombs. Which would shock me to my very core.
Fontaines have sold alot more tickets in the UK over the last few years than any of Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, and Billie Eilish.
They probably arent headline material yet but they arent far off considering the dross that has headlined Glastonbury in recent years.
It was announced in November last year so was thinking it might be out this side of the new year.
If Capaldi and Fontaines aren't 2/3 of the '27 headliners, I will buy and eat a slightly above average hat.
Olivia Rodrigo sold out Hyde park in no time and could have easily done multiple nights there if she had the availability. Dua lipa sold out 2 nights each at Wembley and anfield. Billie did 12 uk arena shows recently at expensive prices and could have easily sold many more nights at those crazy prices. It was an indoor designed show hence no big outdoor.
Glastonbury will be locking down its pyramid 2027 headliners in next few months, well before next Fontaines album. So I don’t think they will offer it to them yet. Agree that they aren’t far off it.
It all really depends on which acts are about in 2027 and wanna play Glastonbury for nothing.
last I heard a few weeks ago was they were still scrambling for a headline act for in the meadows
Do they have a 'curator' this year, à la Iggy last year or Lankum the year before?
Fontaines will be headliners, as they would easily sell out Hyde Park (Finsbury Park sold out ~9 months in advance with 2 shows at Ally Pally still to happen).
that’s the concept they go with but its just headline act agent giving approval, similar to local support suggestions for any other show.
it really depends on whose available in 2027. if 3 more popukar/famous acts like Harry styles, Ed Sheeran or taylor Swift decide to play glasto then Fontaines will not be headlining
They aren’t going to book 3 out and out pop acts. Far more likely they have 1 or 2 rock acts (1 of which will probably be Fontaines).
Booking Fontaines is an opportunity to be progressive and keep everybody happy. Romance was the cultural zeitgeist and they are the biggest rock act since Arctic Monkeys.
Well grand but are you saying they haven't got that act in place yet?
2024 had 3 pop acts in dua lipa, sza and Coldplay headlining. Emily eavis and her husband will gleefully allow major pop acts if they wanna play worthy farm. They aren’t in the business of turning those acts down.
Fontaines won’t keep everyone happy as much as the 1975 didn’t. Glasto heafdline expectations are a weird scenario.
I said the last I heard a few weeks back was no act have been signed up. that obviously can have changed as things do coming up to Christmas
I genuinely don't think I'd know a Fontaines DC song if it was played for me and I have no real view as to whether they should or shouldn't headline a particular festival.
But I do find it odd that something about this band does seem to drive a lot of engagement on both sides with "they're the best ever" or "no, they're not".
Any particular reason? All I really know about them is they had a Bohs jersey...
they have gotten popular in a genre of music that no longer is the dominant music genre. rock music is no longer the cultural zeitgeist it once was and Fontaines have gotten a small bit of the zeitgeist back.
I also put it down to them frequently appearing on TV soundtracks, Netflix's House of Guinness and FX's Say Nothing among other programmes.
