New thread as the last thread seems to be broken.
Czechs haven't been great in qualifying. They had their own Armenia moment away to the Faroe islands. Their best results were a 0-0 home draw with Croatia and a 2-0 win on the road against Montenegro. As long as everyone is fit, we have the players to beat them.
Macedonia are decent.
Drew with Belgium home and away.
Drew with Wales.
Ireland vs Macedonia in a friendly while everyone else battled for qualification sounds like one of the levels of hell
and lost 7-1 to Wales.
Jaysis think you're being optimistic there!
Denmark are not the team that battered us 5-0. Eriksen is not going to be lighting up the pitch. It would be a difficult game but we are at home and after watching their game against Scotland they don't look insurmountable right now.
We have to get there first though. Czechia are a bit of a mess at the moment but we still have to go there and win. Not easy. They'll be happy they got us at home.
Yup… I mean, we all had to have a bad result somewhere or we wouldn't be in these qualifiers. That's the only game in the entire group they conceded more than 1 goal, and have shown they could get a result in 3 of their 4 hardest matches (much like ourselves). Denmark obviously the favourites there, but as a pot 4 team North Macedonia would've been one to avoid.
Denmark completely dominated Scotland.
Scoreline isn't a fair reflection of the game.
But they're beatable.
We owe them for 2017 and the Vikings raping and pillaging us.
There are no bad teams in the thing, really. I'd prefer them in Dublin over Denmark, should Ireland progress to that stage, put it that way. They'd be drained from an (improbable) victory over Denmark, and could go apart from the pressure of the occasion, whereas Denmark know how to manage a game, usually.
A pity the Czechia game isnt on next month, whilst the team have the momentum.
They will be going in cold next March and thats traditionally a very poor window for Irish teams.
We can taunt them that Alexander the Great was actually born in Greece and is Greek.
That'll get under their skin.
Except 2017 where we got a draw in Denmark and hockeyed in Dublin 🤣
And with a brighter look on Denmark, we may have gotten spanked by them in 2017 (thanks in no small part to the most tactically inept managerial performance I've ever seen), but in the first leg, and the 2019 group stage afterwards we draw the other 3 matches… through on pens perhaps?
Also we've a clean bill of health right now but I guess the same could be said for the Czechs.
They are better than us, no argument there, but other than Ukraine I'd have taken them from pot 1 before the draw especially at home if we did get past the Czechs.
Fingers crossed Ferguson finds a bit of form in the intervening few months as well… how nice would it be to have two decent forwards!
We'd be at home though
Best possible draw bar getting Ukraine…the carrot is there
Slovakia and Czechs was the draw you would have wanted had you the choice. Wales are on the crest of a wave, would not have fancied them away and definitely not Poland either.
After that then it's crucial you got a home draw should you win the semi final. We got that.
Then you look at potential top seeds you could play.
Italy, Ukraine, Denmark and Turkey. I think you want to avoid Turkey and Italy.
I think all in all, its the absolute best possible draw on paper.
It was Czechs or Slovakia for me.
Pot 1 wanted avoid Italy or Denmark.
I just worry about semi final first. All I will say though is that if and its a big if we do get final least we are at home.
No biggie, to get to the World Cup we just have to have a run of 4 consecutive wins against teams ranked 5th (H), 37th (A), 41st (A) and 20th (A) while down around 60th ourselves
Halfway there

Ireland vs Denmark
Genuinely sick of the sight of Denmark at this stage.
in fairness, every team dominated scotland. I watched all the qualifiers and its beyond me how they topped that group. fair play to them though,
They actually have very good footballers in midfield so should be better.
Vienna. Up to ten trains a day.
Could of been a lot worse
We need to keep the heads though and 100% be thinking of Czech Republic and not the potential final in Dublin
Never change Michael… Never change…
Looked at those flights the other day, they were €120 return
Someone on another forum booked flights to Prague yesterday. 50% chance we'd draw Czech or Slovakia.
We should worship at his feet.
Czechia only 4th shortest favourites, @19/20.
