New thread as the last thread seems to be broken.
The interplay up the wing that led to Parrott getting the corner was not hoof ball. Direct yes.
A lot of our long balls out from Kelleher and the back were quick ball, aware that the Portugese back line were high at that point in time and vulnerable to the counter. They weren't all slow, long balls up to big Cas to knock it down to Aldo type of stuff.
tbh start poor and get better is preferable to start poor and stay poor - finished last campaign with a run of 3 straight losses, a win over Gibraltar and than another loss.
And even here, the draw against Hungary was an ok start, with the only truly actually bad result we’ve had in the campaign being Armenia away.
At worst we’ve returned to mediocrity, from the absolute abject hopelessness we were in.
I can't remember us putting back to back wins together against higher ranked nations any time in recent memory. And away from home we're not very good.
I think we could put a decent performance in but a draw seems likely.
Those lads will have that win as a reference point. It makes the psychologist job a lot easier in future. Even if the win is not found v Hungary. At least the players have proven to themselves they can do it.
There was no real reference point before. There was no real quality performance, against quality opposition before. Under Kenny because of his insistence on philosophy and not practicality. The players got so mentally battered they were fearful and numb.
Add in the fact that there is/was no real leader bar Coleman, it left HH a massive task to get the players back to any sort of confidence, organisational set up, or competitive level.
I think Heimir has managed to get the players focused organised and over that mental barrier they had. At least once. Obviously they have to continue doing that more regularly. But it is a start.
Nerves hitting me now. Think Hungary will attempt to start strong so hoping we keep it tight.
At least there is genuine belief that a win is plausible now. But it is going to be very difficult Hungary will be fired up.
If the game is tight for the first 45/60/70 Hungary could gradually get nervy trying to keep the point they need.
As long as Hungary don’t get an early goal there is a chance.
Oh look, the Hungarians have brought in a band to play the anthems. Not a pub singer like the FAI.
How novel!
Looks off
Silver linings we play better a goal down
Surely a pen

What a few days for this lad
Is there a chance the playoff could be at home?
That is unreal, magic and yes I did question would and should Parrott start on Wednesday
Just crazy! We needed to win both matches and we did!
Three wins in a row? I wonder when was the last time we did that in competitive games.
I believe we're away for the playoffs.
Seriously? That's bs. should be at neutral venue surely .
The calls for Idah over Parrott and Heimir being the same as Kenny are possibly two of the worst takes in the sites history.
Well done Ireland. Some player 5 goals in last two games that made the guys on the street say Ireland are sh*t to what a team.
It's seeded which is fair enough. Get rewarded for playing better.
18 goals so far this season for Troy
worst than we should only pick players from the league of Ireland?
Unbelievable result! When is the playoffs?
