Prima Facie sold out in about four minutes. I know it was the Gaiety but I was surprised with no queue or waiting room.
exactly. About a 1/3 of Olympia capacity can’t see or hear a concert properly. The upper circle is a waste of money for people. Back Half of the circle itself isn’t great either and in the stalls if not dead centre in the pit/behind its sometime bad and you have constant people walking through you to the bar.
The bar in the stadium is a relic but you are never spending time there, in out and grab a can.
The pearl-clutching over the National Stadium is honestly hilarious. You’d swear Hayley booked the back room of a Supermac’s instead of a venue that’s perfectly fine for the scale she’s aiming for.
She’s just released a solo record built around intimacy and rawness — it’s not exactly the Paramore at the 3Arena experience. The woman could play in a car park and it would make more sense than half the cavernous halls some of ye seem to crave.
What’s even funnier is that half the outrage is coming from people who, if pressed, couldn’t name a single track off Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party or Petals for Armor. But sure, they’ll still be there, arms folded, mouthing along to “Still Into You” like it’s a church hymn.
The same crowd were only just up in arms that the Foo Fighters skipped us — “Ireland never gets the good gigs!” — and now when someone doesn’t skip us, it’s still not good enough because the bar looks like a school disco.
Some of us actually go for the music. The rest just seem to want something to complain about between presales.
I wonder what a Tricky live show is like these days... 🤔
Shelf Lives were great fun in the Workman's in the summer...
I love the national stadium. No nonsense venue. Grab a can from the excellent school disco bar and head in to see bands up close and personal. Reminds me of the SFX.
Olympia is only good if you’re up the front and out from under the first floor. The rest of it is like standing in a basement car park.
Be interested in this. Most of his gig reviews seem to include words like erratic, baffling, bizarre but brilliant, quixotic etc.
Worth a punt I reckon.
God forbid anyone has an opinion on a shït venue.
Nobody is saying that they'd rather she didn't bother so I've no idea why you're implying that. People are just saying the venue is a bit shït and you're throwing all your toys out of the pram and claiming people aren't 'real fans'. Chill out.
I'm hoping to see her, delighted that she's playing Ireland, meet the apparent fan test, but ya know, still think there would be better venues to play at.
The name rang a bell but I had to look them up and immediately realised i saw them at Borderline earlier this year. Yeah they were good alright. Like a punk Confidence Man.
Spot on
Calvin Harris playing Malahide as well as marlay park
Yeah, twas Borderline I saw them actually, so not over the summer! Just checked back and I wrote "holy maloney! Just incredible energy, so much fun, great crowd control, decent mosh pit. Loved every second of it, just great fun!"
I think I was quite drunk by that stage though 😋
That's what I was thinking. I lived in Bristol from the late 90s so I've a massive grá for the triphop of the time, but Tricky was always hit and miss live. If he's good, he's great though. I'll see how much it is and decide nearer the time.
Amble have been announced as the first act for Live at the Docklands Limerick.
Not to open a can of worms but maybe it's a sign Dublin needs a mid sized modern venue between Vicar Street and 3 Arena.. ;)
(Not aimed at you directly @Eod100)
On Calvin Harris rare enough to see the same artist play a city consecutively at 2 different venues. I'd assume production is very standard
It's happening and it cant come soon enough

Looks impressive
Maybe we'll get the 'Dublin Leprechauns' ice hockey team
he’s already has a gig for Belfast as well…it’s ridiculous, it should have been used for another act!
Cherrywood is fair oul trek out 🫣
an ice rink will be a rubbish venue for gigs it will have terrible acoustics
Luas line to the door and goway with that i have to drive 2+ hours for shows in dublin so the end of the m50 will be a god send, make a day for some and park in dundrum do shopping and dinner and luas it out and back again
tell that to every ice hockey arena in the world, they are not building it without consideration for events so im sure the sound will be spot on
Not to mention the surface being very slippy
Luas, M50 and N11 though.
Utterly souless place for pre/post anything
Theres dozens of famous venues that host ice hockey
Place not even built yet and people dismissing it
God I love Boards
Button factory > academy > vicar street > national stadium > 3 arena > workman's > grand social > Olympia
It will likely never be built, same as Cork events centre.
Denis Desmond is involved I see, interesting.
Academy another one they over sell and can be dreadful if you're in the wrong spot.
Madison Square garden isn't too bad, or the aganis in Boston.
