(bit of a boring post sorry) Sitting in traffic today (as a passenger) I was looking at the current rears of car's lighting namely the stop lights and indicators and I couldn't help noticing that a lot of them are going/gone modern LED units.
First of all I noticed a Opel Corsa . the rear light cluster was very visible it would be the ones with the filament 21w indicators and rear red tail lights 21/5w filament - nice and big and at eye level of the person driving behind them.
Then I saw some later cars rear lights many of them that looked like LED, but no longer a large reflector but a line of LED red lights and then when indicators going on a rather distracting yellow strip that 'flowed' instead of flashed - didnt look as effective as the older units …. or as bright and some of the indicators on some of the newer cars the indicator flashers were not even next to the red tail lights, except being down below in the rear bumper part - meaning if they were a few feet ahead of you then you might see them flash , but as you get right up behind (say waiting at a traffic light) you not even seeing the indicators because they were down so goddamn low and out of your field of vision! \
i am so surprised in a way because years ago on cars I thought by law there were very specific details regarding car lighting that the reflectors had to be of a certain size and at a certain level at the rear of the car (normally eye level and next to the tail lights) or else it would fail motor tests (NCT etc) - nowadays it seems like any design can go now rather than for safety or requirements manufacturers can now design their lights on their car for aesthetics rather than functionality/safety and its a free for all where they can place them wherever they like and get away with it .
(on the same kind of subject) if we go around to the front of some of these newer cars these days I have a real hate for these cars that has an indicator that extinguishes the DRL (driving light) when the indicators are flashing on that side of the headlight. it just looks like one of the DRL's is faulty on that side - it must be where the LEDs must be white or orange but cannot be both colours at the same time , either one or the other.
