well no carol live or voicetracked today
All week, no presenter from 12pm to 6pm. Has Carol left Gold?
8 years today since the first presenters appeared- only Will left now!
Carol is back next week but seems to be doing a lot of Rte 1 covers now when people are off there
she covered on rising time last week - first time I heard her back on Radio 1 in around 2/3 years !!
Has she covered other shows on Radio 1 recently?
she seems to be presenting lunar tunes on Sunday evenings now too - not sure if that’s a repeat?
You have to wonder why Rte staff don’t seem to really want to be on air anymore? You’d think they’d be keen to broadcast whenever possible
I get the feeling Rick will be the new presenter of Arena on Radio 1.
But still no "stand in" presenter for his afternoon 1 to 4pm Gold slot and The Gold Lounge he presents are currently repeats of earlier shows.
well Ray D’arcy apparently turned it down
Evelyn orouke is presentimg arena next Monday
nice to hear someone behind the scenes included the 12" mix of Living in a box around 8pm last night, following the announcement of singer Richard Darbyshire's passing yesterday.
Will played Room in your heart this morning as well. Maybe there is a human being playlisting the station after all
It seems now that Carol only presents 2 live "More music drive" shows each week (Tue and Wed), previously it was mostly 3 live shows per week with some exceptions along the way where it was less than this.
no Carol again so far this week
It's looking more likely rte are giving up on rte gold maybe since all the 70s and 80s stations came on dab they don't see the point of having rte gold anymore
such a shame, was my most listened to RTE radio station.
There still is a huge market and potential for RTE Gold. Listeners especially the old 2FM listeners want to listen to familiar Irish voices and content and it is nice to get something nostalgic without any ad's or pointless banter from paying a licence fee (those that do pay !!).
I wouldn't say they are giving up…rather they are sorting out the mess that was left on the RTE 1 schedule first and letting Gold run itself in the background as it was intended to do with little to no cost.
I do hope Rick gets the Arena gig but knowing RTE they will go for some outsider with social media presence in the Arts world…
I do think Rick will get the arena gig do use mind the shows been pre recorded or would use rather live
with Rte x fm ending Jon Kenny’s show should move over Rte has plenty of idle presenters that could do shows on Rte Gold. Whether they’d be an asset or a liability is another question
Rick is off this week and I get the feeling there will be an announcement today or tomorrow on sean rock's replacement on Arena.
You can't replace Sean Rocks. A new presenter would be many things, but a replacement is not one of them.
There will never be another Sean Rocks.
Simple mistake by Ronan Collins. He played Common People by Pulp and then said "the voice of Damon Albarn". Mixing up your Blur and Pulp there, Ronan!
I get the impression Ronan's show is scripted so perhaps someone else's mistake too?
if he was listening to himself I’m sure he blushed in embarrassment
I’m listening to Rewind at the moment, they’re playing the original 1988 version of Aslan’s “This Is”. I never heard it on Gold, they only seem to have the much later orchestral version, I think it’s on the Shame About Lucy Moonhead album.
No RTE Gold this morning. Tried TuneIn, RTE Player, Saorview & RTE Web site.
Should be back now. All streams were down for a time.
It is back... with the abysmal cover of When the Going Gets Tough by Boyzone.
Considering all the great songs released over the last 70 years or so, it never ceases to amaze me that a DJ or producer continue to play dross like this and songs from Westlife's back catalogue.
what is "Rewind"??
At last the proper version of 'This Is' is now being played, it was not just on RTE Gold that the orchestral version was being played, but on other RTE stations so it was probably the only version in the Radioman system and it was really annoying, as the 1988 version is the best.
Mind you the 1988 version from 'Feel no shame' is still not the original version, as there was a version in 1986 that Radio 2 used to play, as it was released on single only at the time.
Aslan - This Is (Original version)
It’s one of the FailteDAB stations, run by the same group as Christmas FM.
I didn’t know about the 1986 one, must give that a listen later.
ah I misread that I thought RTE Gold were now playing the 1988 version.
