So thought I’d throw this up, in a similar style to the electricity and gas switching deals available
one big switch have a deal for eir Broadband €35 a month and €100 credit added to your account for new residential account holders, if you’ve had eir before use spouses name which I’ve done in the past
That lacks a mention of changing infrastructure and you'd prob be caught. At least you can't have 2 active open eir connections
Thanks. It's available to me. I see digiweb provide the Fritzbox modem.
The process is for changing access network also, like in your case. Ask Digiweb to cancel whoever you are currently with when ordering.
Even if you didn't want to, the overlap would only be one month.
They don't provide Fritzbox routers anymore afaik, It's Zyxel now
I will look into it.
The homeplugs work fine for me, some are 100Mb, some 600Mb, I prefer a wired connection to wireless.
As do I but I ditched mine as actual speed was rubbish compared to advertised. Mesh system puts a much better speed through the house. The only time I think homeplugs are better is thick old walls etc
Powerline is better for stable latency, for gaming etc. It can depend on how your house is wired and the age of the wiring, on how you're experience with them will be.
I'm not sure how it works if you order online but if you order eir in store we can cancel your SIRO connection for you. As NotShero said it's a new ComReg initiative called Internet Access Switcher Service or IASS. It's not cancelled until your eir connection goes live and once you're out of contract with your current provider there should be no overlap or a few days at worst.
To answer your question about install timelines it's generally about 2 weeks. I did however sell a Wi-Fi 7 connection today which had an install date of 5/Dec though. But 500Mb/1Gb were around the 21st of this month.
Mu mimo solved the main problem with wifi technology, should be much better now than ye olde days.
Just ordered this, let's see how we go!
Looking at that now, it says Lightning 1000 Saver with Talk Unlimited.
Seems to include unlimited calls to Irish and UK landlines and mobiles and 1GB broadband for 30 euro per month, that seems insanely cheap.
I rang digiweb today to enquire about the lightening 1000 offer. I didn't get a lot of enthusiasm from the rep, spoke about the potential issues with installation ie no choice over location of install, very busy towards Xmas so not sure about date of install, difficult to align it to my last date with current supplier Sky to ensure continuity of service. Not sure if rep being realistic or because you can only sign up via switcher.
Be cautious of lightning speed price, it's on bonkers (bit dearer) as a 6 month price and full price for following 6months.
Yeah - Digiweb are misleading when it comes to their pricing, choosing to hide this in the fine print. It happens on the NBI plans, wasnt aware they did this on their other plans.
Also need to check if they have an activation fee - again the NBI plans do - No thanks!
VF do the same 6 month pricing nonsense, but at least they make it very clear.
No it's on Switcher for €29.95pm 1Gb OpenEir "Lightning" for 12 months, €44.95pm out of contract. You just can't get it for that price through Digiweb themselves or Bonkers.
Says Fritzbox on the advert for the lightening fast 1gb switcher offer
Yeah that's just outdated info afaik it's only Zyxel now
I appreciate that but I'd be keeping a record of it and not surprised if they Bill goes up, it's a bit too good to be true.
Total year cost is €29.95x12=359.40, it can't be any clearer than that.
Text today offering 9 months half price with remaining 3 months full price.
Funny how the sales team (i spoke with 2 of them!) Hadn't access to that offer last week? Again I am sure its a numbers game for these businesses but it must be a fair painful job to be working
As they haven't stated any price increases at the outset of the contract, you would have the option to leave if they did.
ComReg - "However, if your contract does not include a built-in price increase or if you are outside your minimum term, you can switch without penalty if your price increases."

Hi Lads, just wondering what the options are here re broabdband, have options with Virgin, Sky, Eir and pure. None of them are that appealing from a support perspective. Are they all a much of a muchness?
They all provide the same product to be honest. It's just which one has the best price. I try to stay with an Irish company at least unless price is much better. I've found PURE ok to deal with, much better than endless calls with sky about anything
Jeez, I just looked at my eir bill the other day, I was out of 'contract' since June, and my broadband had gone from ~€30 pm to €75PM !?
Worse their service here, 1.5km from Cork City is awful over old copper, 11.5km from the 'local' exchange. So we'd lose service for maybe 1 hour / day.
How the hell , do they get away with this??
Anyways I've had enough, cancelled them on the spot for bb & TV.
I'm using my eir mobile as a WiFi hotspot for now, is there an upper limit on my gb downloads per month on this?
I really don't want to get another horrible bill from Eir, because I have to reconfigure my broadband from their overpriced, underperforming service!!
No you should be okay, the 120GB FUP should no longer be enforced. You have to keep an eye on when you are going to go out of contract as the out of contract prices are high for lots of providers in Ireland. You can call them coming up to the end of the contract to renew at a cheaper price, it most likely won't be the same as the new customer price however.
You could instead get a 4G/5G unlocked router and a cheap SIM from Clear Mobile (Vodafone), GoMo (Eir), 48 (Three).

You can check these websites to see if any FTTP options are available to you, or when they might be -

Thanks, I actually got a 3 router service for my mother who lives 1 Park up to replace Eir also, but that was unreliable here also (we've a lot of large mature trees around the area), but I've since migrated her to Starlink satellite broadband & that seems to be perfect tbh if a little pricey at €50/mo.
With your own unlocked router, you can try other networks.
Clear Mobile (Vodafone) - €12.99pm
GoMo (Eir) - €14.99pm
You're currently using your Eir hotspot so you'll know what the experience will be like with GoMo.
I mentioned this offer to another supplier who I was getting a quote from and he couldn't believe it. I told him it was on Switcher then said our goodbyes cos no way they could do that price. He rang me back 5 minutes later to say that he'd discussed it with his colleagues and that in the T& C's there is a usage charge which is very reachable, above it will incur additional charges. He wasn't pushy, just seemed to be genuinely warning me. I couldn't find it when I looked in the T&C's.
There is a 3TB (3,000GB) FUP across all of Digiweb's plans but it's mentioned -
"We do not throttle or cap service, however, if a customer exceeds the stated fair usage allowance for data on more than 2 occasions in any 90 day period, then Digiweb reserve the right to terminate or suspend the customer’s service. Digiweb will proactively contact customers in advance of any suspension or termination of service."
There's no additional charges for going over it and I've not seen anyone mention they've gotten suspended. Someone mentioned they've gone over the limit on multiple occasions and nothing happened.
