New thread as the last thread seems to be broken.
that’s correct to a degree but Ireland needs an international star as that can basically be worth 5 million or so to the association a year.
Ferguson is our only potential world star
What does he have this season, three goals in four internationals? That's all I'm interested in, tbh. It's a shame that his club career hasn't taken off as people hoped but he's doing the job when he puts on the green shirt in a team that are struggling. It feels like Robbie Keane all over again; plenty of people criticising him but he always popped up with a few goals. That's what Ferguson's doing right now.
that move is dead, Hes better off getting out of there asap. Gasperini has made it pretty clear that he doesn’t rate Ferguson or doesn’t trust his body’s ability to deal with the rigour of games. I’m beginning to wonder if Ferguson can train normally or is already “compromised physically”
Evan has been moving around a lot and has only been at Roma a few months. The lack of stability can't be good for him.
You'd hope Roma give him at least the full season.
Evan is still our best option as the sole number 9 against Portugal.
He definitely won't be playing two strikers in our next game v Portugal, that's for sure. No point even talking about it.
I'm hoping we get to the round of 32 and our kick off is the latest one as I will fly over that weekend in the hope of catching a game. Was going to go to the Uzbekistan game the week before but I also want to go to the HSBC golf championship on Abu Dhabi
A hard life, eh? 😅
I agree but we can't pretend that the fact we are utterly hopeless now is not a repellant factor either for those with any prospects at all who are thinking about their careers because naturally it is, unfortunately.
that Ferguson move to Roma is a dead dog, manager has wrote him off as not properly training and that’s worrying as it suggests a physical decline.
We’ll see how Roma go under Gasperini. Think they are a blunt attacking force with or without Ferguson
Senior team had a good win against Belgium in the first leg of the promotion/relegation play off winning 4-2 at home. They play the second leg on Tuesday.
At least we hace a world cup to look forward to in few weeks.
See women's u17s beat Belgium 4-0. Great week for women so far.
He won't though as he wants the extra body in midfield and players with pace such as Ogbene and Ebosele for the counter act as we saw last month.
Only going to see two CFs against teams weaker than us which as the months go grows smaller.
Doybyk is seeing more minutes in the battle of the manager's unfinished strikers. That's not encouraging.
No, I think he should play both. EV has been too isolated in many games
The one bit of hope is that neither striker is in form there. They started strikerless today with Dybala and Leon Bailey in attack instead. They were ahead in the game long before any changes, so didn't need to go searching for anything, just wanted to see it out. Dovbyk was the choice to come on and just try to hold things up, but he's not in favour either, so it's still not a massive stretch for Ferguson to get ahead. But to do that, one way or another, he has to score.
So drop the guy whose actually scoring goals for Ireland because HH isn't going to play with two strikers?
Yeah, saw an article today suggesting his loan will be cut short in January.
Five subs used by Roma and still no Evan. It's looking like a short lived romance, I can see him gone in January.
Troy definitely the inform player and has to be starting for Ireland.
Just the two goals for Parrott after 37 mins for AZ.
Ferguson and Ebsoele both unused substitutes for their respective clubs.
Good for him. Glad he came out and made a decisive and very unequivocal statement like that. I have zero problem with players born outside the 32 counties playing for Ireland but only as long as they genuinely want to play for Ireland and see themselves as Irish.
Andrews was just the assistant though. The job of the assistant is to support the manager in what they want to do, and try to help them achieve their plan, not dictate plans of their own. We see plenty of assistants perform very differently when given a managerial job themselves - Kieran McKenna another obvious one.
That's the end of that then
Keith Andrew’s success at Brentford makes me think it really is just that our players that stink rather than it being down to our manager
My fellow Artane homeboy wins again with Brentford. Keef seems to be a class act.
Wouldn't mind Parrott/Szmodics pushed up near Ferguson instead of Azaz.
Set pieces for sure, particularly when we can get the other big lads from the back up there too. I think Ferguson's just a bit wasted under a rake of lumped crosses when he's on his own up there though. He's always been so much better with the ball at his feet. In his breakout with Brighton before his injury, he scored 16 goals. Only 1 was a header.
I more just see Ireland scoring from crosses and set pieces
I just prefer Ferguson as a ball striker. He's a big lad and good enough under crosses, but for me he's at his best anywhere around the edge of the box, facing goal, ball at his feet. And I just fancy him getting into those positions more often if he's playing with someone else who can also take the ball back to goal and lay it off for him, or play a little one-two with to release him. I think we just see him way too isolated when he's on his own, struggling to get much of his own offence going.
(I'd also be totally fine with Brady at LWB for crosses too, if he's fit)
maybe but I wouldn’t be of a mind to think that’s a good idea for 3 reasons
Maybe not HH's style, but I'd definitely be playing the two of 'em together. I always much prefer us with two up… the best we've looked in the past 6 or 7 years was with Parrott and Obafemi up top. Ferguson is really struggling to get into decent positions (for both club and country) when stuck playing as that lone target man, and I think having a strike partner playing with him would do him the world of good.
We seem to have gone back to a back 5 nowadays anyway, so would rather Manning LWB, and Ebosele or Ogbene RWB, and a three man midfield with Azaz at the tip of it. Then the two lads up in front of them.
