Has anyone encountered a "SOS services not available" fault, I just had this happen immediately after the latest OTA update and can't get rid of it.
Only recently found out as well that EV cars need tyres changed more frequently due to increased wear due to the heavier weight attributed to the battery. I got a new set of tyres this time last year and have a service booked in a couple of weeks. Just wondering how often people are finding they need to change tyres on their ID3.
high BHP, weight and instant torque of EV’s will shred tyres far quicker than cars you may have had in the past.
There was another thread where people were saying EVs don't wear tyres any different than ICE cars which simply isn't true. A 1.8-2 ton car is going to be harder on tyres than a 1.2 ton car. Factor in the likes of the ID.3 being on narrower tyres they're going to have an even harder life again. Fortunately the fuel and service savings make the increased tyre wear negligible. It also depends on your driving style and the type of tyres too.
My Golf on OEM Bridgestone Turanza T001 needed new tyres after 22,000km and a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 lasted 24,000km. My Born on OEM Continentals needed new tyres after 18,000km but a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S was at 4.2mm after 15,000km, could have squeezed 20,000km from them but I traded the car before they needed to be replaced.
Before taking this as gospel - and perpetuating the FUD - let me add that tyres on my "heavy, torquey, and powerful" EV lasted far longer than on my previous "low powered, lighter, with lower torque" diesel SUV.
Maybe it's down to the tyres - the brands and models mentioned above wouldn't be lasting long on an ICE car so the comparison is not strictly ingenuous.
Hankook Ventus S1 Evos - changed out after 45k kms at 3mm.
Next set wearing even better, on a 2 ton electric SUV.
well to be fair, the only thing I have to back up my response to the OP is science :)
if you’re not comparing like with like on tyre brands and compounds, it’s all moot.
I had the SOS problem after the update also. Don't bother wasting your time looking at forums and thinking about pulling fuses. Call the dealer, they'll take it and do it for free, its a known issue following the update.
Has anyone else been getting this alert, I have it last 2 days.
When someone drives the car and gets out at home, later I would get an alert on the top message bar of my phone saying "park your vehicle" complete with the VW logo. So i assume its from the app?
Thing is, I can't read anything. If you drag the message down from the top of the screen, it vanishes. Nothing in the app then when its checked.
Yes Itz happening to me aswell, both id3 gtx and id4.
I get that…. its telling me that I left the car unlocked.
Do you leave the car unlocked at home…. thats what the notification is telling you.
It is a new message so must be a recent update to the app.
Thanks for that. It must be a new update, because we'd always leave the car unlocked as its round the back of the house, but these alerts have only been happening the last 2 days.
And now that I look…. if you go into the app and go to notifications section there is an option there for "Vehicle not parked securely". Turn that off if you dont want that notification.
I've been getting this. Can tell when I look out the window it didnt auto lock like it normally would since the mirrors didnt fold.
After having this for a while I think im in a place to judge it somewhat.
The break pedal is the biggest issue. Absolutely terrible.
I can see why they didnt badge it gti, it doesn't feel sporty at all even though you can push it with great grip and its very fast. Don't really care about that part tbh.
The efficiency is very bad coming from a model 3. I knew it would be worse but i didnt think it would be this bad. It's not even cold yet either.
I mentioned the positives in earlier posts and on the whole im really liking it, just thought I should point out what I don't like.
Keep in mind that Tesla reports efficiency for just motors and other manufacturers tend to include overall usage.
I did often wonder if the Tesla figures were to be trusted. It did always feel to me that they were fudging it somehow so they could grab the marketing.
I presume what you are saying there has been independently tested by someone? So, how do Tesla's actually compare in reality… apples to apples? Even if they are still more efficient…. is it 1%, 5% etc?
Thats news to me that Tesla only report energy being used by motors and not for other services but wouldnt surprise me.
Acceleration by them is measured on a roll out basis or something rather than standing start and boot space is measured to window and not to parcel shelf which are industry norms as far as I know.
They do have fantastic headline figures and I reckon they are up there with the best in the industry but I always wondered why some of the real world range tests against competitors and they are regularly beaten despite displaying great efficiency.
Yeah i had my suspicions with tesla. You'd see great numbers but still not get near the wltp range. In saying that it was definitely much more efficient.
why kind of realworld range are you seeing at this time of the year?
I'll throw some ranges up I'm getting atm. 211 iD3. 130k Kms on it. I've had it about 15 months. Probably had a lot of fast charging with it's previous owner given the 4 corners of Ireland left in the satnav(home address included!).
Anyways. This afternoon. Did a long motorway stretch. Cold and windy. The math reckons I would've got about 225 Kms @ 118kmh. No heating.
Southeast to Sligo non stop. Few passengers and cases fwiw. 100% charge. Did 261kms and arrived with 15% battery. Some heating for the last hour or so. Only 30kms of that @ 120 on a motorway though.
Summer just gone did 300km on N and R roads and had 20% battery left.
Did it take long? Thought I'd escaped it but just popped up this morning.
Don't think so- the car was in for the day though. I didn't bother trying to fight for a courtesy car.
Id say the expected range is now correct. At 80% it shows around 325 km. Which would be the same in the tesla at around 85% in the same conditions. No hard facts to back this up just an educated guess based on experience of both. To me thats a bit dissapointing with the id 3 having a much bigger battery.
if there was an option i would have went with 19s instead of the 20s that are on it.
wondering if anyone had similar issue with keyfob for ID3? Primary key works fine for unlocking etc.
Spare key will not work despite battery change. buttons will not unlock car however can manually unlock car and the key will work to allow me to drive the car when placed in drinks holder area. Bit annoying - wonder if there is a reasonable fix.
I do have dashcam at moment wonder if that related. thanks
Is there an extra on some PP GTX models which has sensors all round?
E.g. this one

But others don't.

there’s a €3k option bundle that includes something called ‘area view’, that might be it.
I was only on the configurator yesterday, was trying to find out if blind spot monitor is on the gtx performance pro?
It’s not the area view - that has actual camera on front and sides too. My GTX PP shows side area in that graphic too but I’d need to check if they only appear when you are next to something or all the time.
Blind spot is part of that pack, not installed as standard on GTX PP
Don’t think this has been mentioned so far but I no longer need to press ok on the User screen - can just drive off and the screen clears. Software version is 5.4 (larger screen).
Are you just referring to the extra white lines here…
Those are visible on that car simply because the car is parked up against a wall so its just telling you what sensors are beeping. All the GTX PP's have that.
Mine is still on 5.2. No sign of an OTA update! Did yours come with 5.4?
The software is running well though, no major issues except for the charging timer not stopping when it should. The rest is very stable though, so not that bothered about an update coming in.
