Currently engaging with Seetec.

I first attended their meetings about 1 year ago.

I'm guessing based on that, that my 52 weeks with them is near the end..so do you actually get a date in writing from them confirming your 12 month stint is up or what happens here?

you could be finished with them next week and get another letter to start again in 2 weeks time. You won’t have any peace from SW until you find a job.

no. Have you looked into the possibility that you’re on the wrong payment? Maybe there’s another payment more suitable for your circumstances?

Isnt that only right. If someone hasn't secured a job in 12 months they've not been trying to get work. Why should the person getting up early and going to work fund their lifestyle.

Even if a person is on a scheme , they still should be looking for a full time job.

If you are on a CE or TUS scheme , there is absolutely no obligation to engage with seetac, however until such time you are on one or unemployed, it's highly likely, your referral to seetac will be extended.

They can actually refer you back to Seetec if you haven't found employment within three months of finishing up there. It's happened to someone i know.

There's nothing the social welfare can do about it though. A person doing a CE or TUS scheme is no longer on Jobseekers Allowance or Benefit, so it's up to the person themselves really what they want to do irrespective of what you think should happen.😉

Correct. The Irony of course being that DSP entirely funds Payroll and Training allowances for every CE Scheme in the country, including Supervisors Salary.

It's all about stats ,if a person is no longer on Jobseekers payments it's a neat way of reducing the numbers of officially unemployed to unofficially unemployed.

The aim is to put pressure on a person to find a job. That aim is often achieved by "forcing" them to engage, not let them have it cushy and put some level of responsibility on the individual to get up and do something (be that a course or a job)

There should really be no need for a "third party" private organisation to do this (which is where my main issue with both is) as we have enough people in various government departments who job this should be already.

Would take too long to fully explain but essentially two private companies paid to run job activation programs.

First was the horrendously expensive failure Jobspath (€200 million +, replaced with Equally absurd Pathways to work.

Indeed and totally agree - a pure scam - private companies doing the work of the State (as with many other aspects of Irish society.

It's fairly easy, if the stated wanted, to put more pressure on people to find work, reduce the payments. Now I get that certain people may never work for totally legitimate reasons, if so they should be on a payment reflective of that, not JA or JB.

there are already lots of alternative schemes for people not able to finance themselves but not available to work, for various reasons.
Disability Allowance, illness benefit, invalidity pension, carers allowance, carers benefit, one parent family, blind pension, WFP, JST. BTEA, BTWEA.

I completely get where you’re coming from. There’s payments for sick people, people caring for sick people, people who’ve decided to go back to school, people looking after young children alone, parents on low wage, people who’ve started a business, people who lost their job and are looking for another job.
A very small section of society want a payment because they just don’t want to go to work.

The aims whilst wonderful have proven over many years & two different Jobs activation programs to be an expensive failure & utter farce.

So bad have they been, questions raised in the Dail. Bullying & questionable practices evident. Essentially all these schemes have done, is line the pockets of two private companies, one registered in the UK.

I don't particularly have an issue with the concept of Seetec or Turas Nua, though I agree that DSP should be handling this part more robustly in house as opposed to outsourcing it. I don't think enough pressure is applied to people on long term Jobseekers Allowance at all to get them back into the work force (note I am not including any illness related schemes here, I am specifically talking about long term JA recipients).

As has been pointed out above, if someone is genuinely not able to work for an extended period then there are schemes to facilitate them.

However, these private companies are problematic because: in the event someone finds employment not through the companies themselves, the companies continue to badger and harass the person in an attempt to claim credit for this, even though they had nothing to do with it in the first place

Currently just finished my second stint with seetec 52 weeks x 2 ! Done all courses and workshops , was kind of left alone once u attend apps. If u really want employment or advanced training u can get this with them its up 2 u and what u want. On the 2nd year. They talked about cutting dole etc if not actively seeking interviews then etc so I missed 2 apps and got reduced 90 euro until I re engaged . Then I was being watched by DSP so seetec warned me of a few things (nicely) my employment officer in seetec. If u get a nice one ur sailing. So I did. Twice.. but half way thru this 52 wk one, I got 10 hours. And to seetec I gained the world . To the social it wasn't good enough they want u having no dole... I pushed back...so stil learning...I do 2 days 5hrs and I keep full dole minus 10pw for each of the days . 1 day working 2.5hrs , minus 5euro dole.... so 2 days a week...10hrs ...minus 10 euro.... if I go into working 3 days any hours . . I automatically lose all dole and have to change to new payment with worse system than xs and os weekly declarations.... so the system is different for all I think and whatever needs u want

We don't have Dole in Ireland but that aside , I'm intrigued with your assertion, if you want employment you can get it with this shower & yet you spent 2 yrs on a job activation program 🤔

Maybe a basic course in English would've been more suitable....

I briefly engaged with them a few years back. I was appalled at the lack of empathy, training, professionalism and qualifications my 'co ordinator' had. I resented it a little that someone straight out of college, with no life/work experience was advising me (with over 20 years senior management experience) on how to apply for positions, interview techniques and how to write a c.v.

First chance I got, I went on IB which they can't touch you on, until I got another position. They continued to plague me with phone calls until I pointed out that they were in the wrong.

I think they may be of use to SOME people but I'd like to know how they're assigned.
