absolutely shite prices for store lambs in Ballina yesterday. Would have been great if you were buying great value to be had. I had pen of 35 kg ewe lambs brought them home only getting 120 and 3 or 4 of the bunch low 30s the rest high 30s and some in the 40s so will finnish them myself.
Value to be had out there for the store man
That was no good for them, what breed were they?
lovely vendeen out of Suffolk sheep. They we out of we lambs that lambed down in April and were twins left on the ewe lambs that’s why smaller. But lovely shaped lambs, couldn’t sell them at that
You were right to bring them home. I had 3 small lambs left a couple of weeks ago. I brought them to the mart with a few cull ewes. Put the 3 in together, 35kg ewe lambs and made 144.
Old lad sent 28 lambs to Ballyhanuis today… from 53kg to 60kg…3- 65kg….
Loves giving free meat away…
Will ya let us know what they come into.
They probably be worth 175 to 185 in the mart.
8 in Kildare
Not so bad - heading in the right direction at last.
is there much joy selling fat lambs in the mart at the moment? I know FA about the sheep game just curious to know. If you had heavy lambs are you getting paid for the “free meat” in the mart as opposed to the factory?
I think he said €176
Similar to mart so as €180 prob be best he'd get in mart these days.
Must be gone to €8 in factories now so.
Has the jump in factory prices being reflected by a better trade in mart for forward stores in last week?
What jump in factory prices??
The fact that they are back up to €8 after a depressed trade for a few weeks and more to be got apparently.
Unfortunately according to Agriland a couple of factories dropped their price by 10 cent yesterday 😤💩
Been offered 795 this last month. Not pushing lambs on yet as I'm waiting for a lift in price. Starting to go low on grass so in 2 minds as to sell on as stores or push with meal. Unfortunately I don't have shed space to house them if weather turns bad.
I've 40 rams and 30 ewe lambs still to go. All round the 40kg mark.
Rams mainly Lanark type while the ewes are mainly charlois cross
ICM quoting 7.50 in the independent so probably price will drop. there is a huge percentage of the lambs to be killed still.
got 8 euro only last Thursday in Kildare.
And looking at mart reports today , there has been no drop in price.
your right, i thinks it’s a bit of a scare tactic to try and up the kill figures by frightening farmers into thinking the price will fall and to sell now
or they drop price before they increase weight limit to 23kg. Lambs were at 23kg in early October last year
Dropped 10 cent here. I've 15 ready to kill. I'll weigh them at the weekend and see how the are. Could probably hold onto them for a week or 2 if needs be.
Do people think they'll drop any more
Don't think they will drop, but probably won't rise that quick either. Its frustrating how inconsistent the trade is year to year. Last year I was holding them back and they peaked early, this year I have them ready to go and the price is slow to rise!
How are cull ewes at the moment?
Any word on prices for next week as I've some ready to go but don't want to sell if price will be up in a few weeks ?
sold all my remaining lambs as store lambs over the past week. Unreal demand from people due to the amount of grass. And cost of replacement cattle and tax bills from profits from cattle.
First year i dont have any carry over or feeding meal over winter. Happy enough as no feed bought and extra grass for ewes and very good price for stores.
Great year for sheep, the last of our lambs went early September. average price for the year €175.
Lambs thrive great in a fine year
Good year overall for prices but I got done last Monday week in mart with 51kg lambs as only got 160 for them.
They were freely making 170 to 175 yesterday in marts so I'm sickened I didn't bring them home as I knew at the time 160 was very poor but didn't due to hassle of bringing them out again.
Mart prices can be so erratic. i never sell there now. If a dominant dealer picks your pen, you wont't get a fair price
Well there's definitely a dominant buyer in the mart I sell in who buys 70% of the lambs I'd say.
Numbers small enough here so find it hard to have a batch even enough for the factory.
Looking at Tullow Mart online there and 50kg plus lambs are making 10 to 15 euro a head more than the likes of Athenry.
Just shows what the buyer in Athenry is making out us farmers 😤
