New Season 4 clip:
That clip looks great. Classic Trek adventure. Wondering if it will turn out to be a time travelling paradox shenanigans episode (buoy they followed in turns out to be the one left by themselves after they got stuck following it in).
That was my first thought as well.
However, there was no singing, no dancing and no muppets so that alone are 3 things to be happy about.
Good news
I saw that, and I'm simultaneously relieved they're addressing the issues, but also peeved that they seem to have knowingly pushed out a sub-par season.
The thing I liked about that clip and about the interaction between the crew right from the start was that it was not "Sir, yes sir!" but also not Doe-eyed fawning and touchy-feely command (You know what I'm talking about). I said the same thing at the time that S1 came out. Sure, Ortegas was a bit mouthy but nothing disrespectful or too casual. Someone who knows her job, knows she can do it and knows how casual she can be with a captain/command structure she knows well.
La'an's very casual nature with Number One in the initial clips looked a bit worrying but fears were instantly quashed: There is a personal friendship there that precedes and is unrelated to the job. And the comments were in private (The Enterprise Bingo) and when on the job, she's straight up and down.
So, yes, we have a puppet episode but who knows. I think the only problem I had last season was the AMOUNT of oddball episodes. Let's not forget that we had a (partially) ANIMATED episode in season before which was AWESOME!!!
I Think they are only saying the show had problems after the fact. Knowing this team I would say they thought season 3 was gonna be "the most awesomest season ever" and we would all love the wacky sht.
I get the feeling they live in a bubble.
Well, to be fair, they had one outstanding season, one great season and one poor season and they've been quite vocal about the reception of the last season so I think it's a harsh to say they are living in some isolated bubble
The they I am referring to are also responsible for Picard and to a lesser extent Discovery.
SNW S1 was still absolutely brilliant. Discovery just got worse each season. Hate to see SNW go that way.
As for Picard, S1 started off strong but ended in dogsh1t. S2 sas trash. But I really enjoyed S3.
So, maybe there is some hope!
Fcuk I miss Lower Decks :(
Season 3 of Picard is an utter heap of sht from a writing and production point of view. Picture it without the crew you love.
Changlings who communicate by cutting off their hand to make a male skull man who is actually the Borg Queen.
IImagine the piss taking if Burnham had the phaser shotgun that loudly shouts "battery depleted" or the Discovery flew through a Borg cube while Starbase 1 holds out against the entire (yes entire) Starfleet who are all at Earth for a party.
Happy to see them acknowledge (somewhat) where they went wrong with the nonsense episodes starting to outnumber the regular episodes and. judging by that clip at least, moving towards a weekly space adventure with sci-fi dilemmas and problem solving at the heart of things.
Just watched TNG: The Measure of a Man last night and it really is scorchingly good TV at points. The perfect example of what made/makes/(will hopefully make again) Star Trek great.
'Star Trek Strange New Worlds': Thomas Jane Cast as Dr. "Bones" McCoy https://share.google/9L7XySmsWBsdGlaMt
So Doctor McCoy and Sulu are going to be in the last episode of the 5th season. It will be interesting to see how they introduce them. No Chekov as yet though.
They've had some great casting, but I really struggle to see Thomas Jane as McCoy. Hopefully they're seeing something I'm not.
It feels like one of those "he look it's that gut from another sci-fi" type castings.
I suppose there are some similarities with the cynical attitudes of Bones and Miller but physically I can't picture it and Jane is a bit old for the part.
Chekov isn't in the early TOS episodes and isn't a main character until the movies so I think they will make a point of not showing him.
We all mostly agree on the 2009 reboot movie and subsequent sequels, but the one really great bit of casting in my opinion was Karl Urban as Dr McCoy. It's not really plausible I suppose for him to be McCoy(plus maybe he doesnt want to do it) but I think it'd be great if he was McCoy.
If they are introducing these characters in the final season of SNW, is there any hope for a SNW sequel series?
DeForest Kelly was 48 ish at the time of TOS, and Jane is 56 currently. It's not a massive gap, but it's enough to make him look markedly older, and that pic in the article certainly makes it look even more so. He's a big enough name though, maybe they intend him for a later early Kirk series.
He is roughly the same age as Kelly in TMP.
I know they can find some excuse to bump into Bones but if they want to do call backs M'Benga should hand over to Boyce and don't have McCoy at all.
Jane would be a better match for Boyce, too.

Karl Urban was brilliant as Bones.
I dont see Thomas Jane physically in the role...but he was brilliant in The Expanse.
So, let's just see. If the mannerisms and quirks fit the Doc. Then it could work.
Corners and doors Jim that's how they get ya.
There was talk of one alright "Year One" I think it will be called if it happens.

I wonder has it a better or less chance than below?

No one asked for it and doubt anyone wants it - come up with an actual new idea, not recycle and obliterate what is done and needs no remake

The first paragraph mentions Michelle Hurd, aka Raffi.
"But it's still not happening". Lets hope it's still not happening. I'd be all for a series with 7 of 9, just no more Raffi, please!
Back July 23rd
S1 E1 started on ITV4 last night, seems to be every Monday night from then on.
Hopefully it finds itself buoyed by a wider audience. There is so much there to like, I am eagerly awaiting S4 and remain hopeful that they can turn the tide that started to flow in the wrong direction.
