It is. I just spoke with them. They’re saying that they don’t have the quantity in stock to meet all the orders and that was why they were cancelling rather than they’re not going to honour a mistaken price reduction.

Quantity in stock is a red herring here - a company's merchant software would allow sales on a first come first served basis until stock was run out and then mark the item as out of stock, so effectively it is them 'not going to honour a mistaken price reduction'.
Yes, I realise that, I was just relaying what the guy said. I didn’t enter into any debate as it’s my understanding that they don’t have to follow through with orders placed and can legally decline them. Happy to be corrected if I’m wrong.

I would say - 'apologies, we've made a pricing error on our online platform and we can't honour those sales'.
Instead they've gone completely the other way and publicly stated that it's not that they won't honour sales under a pricing error, but that they "don't have the stock to fulfil".
Of course it's down to the pricing error - why obfuscate?
The chap who rang me said it was a pricing error & was extremely apologetic.

No, I wasn’t told a different story really. The pricing error was disclosed but he went on to talk about stock issues. He obviously felt he needed to embellish the justification to guard against people having a meltdown but as soon as I saw the call coming through I knew it was going to be a price error thing. So I was grand, grand, no problem.
