This week at the Paris Motor Show I had a chance to have a 1st look at the BYD Sealion 7. I'll be doing a more detailed review and drive mid November.
Turns out Atlantis Grey is the free colour, which is actually the best one.
That's great news in one way but bad in that it'll be common
What would you see as the standard for interiors mark? Is a polestar 4 much better for example or how would you rate the audi Q6 against the sealion?
You are in a lot of cars so I'd value your opinion. To me Mercedes are making an effort, the rest of the premium sector appears to be a race to the bottom!
The signature Light Tahiti Blue interior also NOT available on the Design, but is on the others. Wut?

Latest review.
Polestar is very minimal but every single thing you touch feels expensive. The indicator stalks have a softer feel to them even. Lexus do amazingly quiet windows when you open and close them. Q6 is nice in parts but by no means perfect. Last model A6 was great though and Audi in my opinion still do very nice interiors although the plastic black gloss stuff is creeping in a lot. Interior of this BYD is just very dark but it feels good as I said for mid to late 40s. It is remarkable in how quiet the cabin is and how little wind noise there is across the windscreen in particular I must say. Merc do lovely interiors I agree but they are very flash now compared to a decade plus ago. Orange needles and a leather SRS airbag stamp on the wheel were the good old days for me!
We test drove it today. The acceleration is good, cabin noise is minimal at high speed, interior is of good quality. The boot is small for our needs. Picture attached about its pricing.
what are you coming from that makes the boot seem small?
Tucson hybrid.
losing about 60 litres there alright.
Thanks for checking this out.
What about Model Y?
Model Y is 854 litres. But they measure this to the roof of the rear hatch. I think this measurements dates back to when it was first launched, it had no parcel shelf so to the letter of the law, it was measured for the whole space.
I don’t think anyone quotes the space under the shelf so hard to get a direct comparison other than Bjorns banana box comparison.
I am aware of this measurement tactics by Tesla. But still to the observation of human eyes, Tesla Model Y's boot is without a doubt larger than Sealion 7 🦭
Cheers.
What's the finance % from BYD?
I vaguely recall 5.9% from the dealer.
Was it the Excellence that you test drove ? Or the non-4WD model ?
Here you go at 15minutes and 38 seconds in this video he says it. The quality is better than the VW ID3 and as good as Skodas but I think it is better than even Skodas. Skoda have come down a bit in quality in recent years but Renault continue to get better and with the revamp on the way it will be even better again. Simple fact is there is no car out there in this class with as good an interior or as classy as the Megane e-Tech.
Why does every thread end up sounding like a Renault brochure when you add a comment ??
I was told 4.9% but it's difficult to tell, they don't seem to have it published anywhere.
They won't have any AWD models for a while so test drives are on the Comfort standard model
It says 5.8% on the MSL site.
Oh brochures. I think the only brochures that can be got these days is online sadly. Have not seen a new one in years. I was just posting what the man with over 30 years experience in the car industry said. It certainly did not come from a brochure.
Do you drive?
It was front wheel drive only. Definitely, Sealion felt slower compared to MY long range test drive on the same day.
@MarkN review.
How are people getting on with their Sealions? Looking at one in the next few weeks.
Also considering one. Went for a test drive - the seats are so comfortable, best I've ever sat in.
Drive was fine - but it was around an industrial estate in fairly heavy traffic so can't make any judgements really - very smooth and quiet though.
How does the BYD navigation system compare to the like of Google maps? Does it advise when you'll need to stop to charge on a journey and charger availability?
i drove it for a weekend, it was ok but for me i rated it behind both the Xpeng G6 and the Juniper Y (disappointing as i think the seal is a great saloon)
Hi guys, I thinking about buying a Sealion 7 but I'm not a big fan of privacy glass on the back door windows.
Has anyone replaced them or anybody know is it possible to replace the privacy glass on the rear doors with non privacy light tint glass?
I've rang a few auto glass companies and they're telling me they cannot do the job because they cannot find the clear glass and I'm waiting for BYD to get back to me with an answer.
Thanks in advance.
first time I hear someone wants to un-tint the car. Do you prefer rear passengers to roast in the car when it’s sunny? Especially when it’s black, enough heat from black roof already, why letting more sun in through your windows.
