Just for anyone having the annoying travel assist/emergency assist errors. There is a workaround in the coding. It involves coding off the emergency assist and KLR module in the steering wheel. Travel assist, lane assist and acc will still work but you lose the emergency assist (meaning the car won't call services in the event of an accident), if you can live without that its a simple fix.
I have done it on my own car and havent had one bong over the last week. Its a pleasure to drive the car without them
Swapping out to the mib2 is easy. Why not do it yourself? The only part that is difficult is if you want to retrofit the digital dash then you may need help. If you need someone to do it I got a guy on Adverts called Adam from ashbourne to do the dash conversion. He was very knowledgeable and does the mib2 conversion also.
Search ‘Carplay’ on Instagram or TikTok.
Howdy Im one of those JDM mk7 GTI enjoyers but have a problem, the MIB1 unit thats in it is fried. Im trying to find someone in ireland who will look at doing the MIB1 → MIB2 upgrade for me with no luck. Anyone know of someone in the space that can do them. Loads in uk but here cant find anyone here. Any ideas welcome. Cheers !!
Edit
So you wouldn’t take a recommendation off someone on here then?
True enough JoeA3 … there's good guys out there for sure. Because the car purchase is generally a fairly big thing (for me anyway), I'm too fearful to buy privately or from an independent dealer (unless recommended by a colleague/friend).
You can't tar all independent dealers like that with the same brush. There will be "chancers" and difficult people to deal with in every walk of life, including in main dealers! Do your homework, buy from a reputable dealer, there's plenty out there with good reps who specialise in selling nice stuff.
Really the only advantage in buying from a main dealer is when the car you're buying is relatively fresh, you'll get a 12 or maybe even 24 month VW approved warranty. But in your case, the 7.5 GTI is that bit older and unless it has particularly low mileage and very clean, then the main dealer warranty may not be too extensive or long anyway.
Rightly or wrongly, I think the main dealer is less likely to be a chancer. My brother-in-law got scalded with a 'can I help you buddy?' independent dealer once in the past … he went back with an issue within 2 days and they laughed at him. The main dealer is probably more likely to be professional, more likely to have an interest in their reputation (?)
PM’ed you there
Why would you only buy from a main dealer? Theres plenty of Jap import GTI’s for sale from independent dealers
Hi folks, Any much advice for someone who has never owned a Golf GTI but is tempted by the Mk7.5 GTI ? I've been driving the TDIs due to annual kilometres been over 25k but I've a new job now that allows for a bit of WFH and I'll probably hit 10-15k kilometres annually from next year. I was just looking online and it kind of seems like there's not alot of them for sale in IE … maybe a trip to NI or england needed? I'd only buy from a (main) dealer or a recommendation from a friend. Cheers, Tony
Got my car fully serviced by Daltons last month. They were excellent and professional.
Just said I'd come back to this and provide the cost of the DSG service in particular, as there were various prices listed on this thread. They charged me 120 euro plus VAT for the 6 litres of gearbox oil, 28 euro plus VAT for the DSG oil filter with sealing ring and 80 euro plus VAT for the labour on the DSG service. I was happy with that. Car is driving great now.
BMW say the same about their ZF gearboxes even though ZF themselves say it needs servicing.
Surely VW would be in serious hot water if they say a major mechanical component doesn't need servicing at all if people were going to face issues?
What issues are mechanics seeing that makes them say it should be done?
Service the gearbox if you plan on keeping the car
My passat B8 facelift 1.6TDI has listed the DSG 7-speed as not serviceable. Confirmed with VW. My trusted mechanic said I should get it done at 100K and get the oil changed on DSG. He recomended Autotranz and one other company in Dublin which i cannot remember the name. I trust my mechanic but are those boxes worth doing at all or leave them alone if working. Have had 2 previous DSG (superb and tarraco) and neither gave a bit of trouble with big mileage even though box never done.
Yeah that was the price that showed up on the VW dealer page, so all in cost. No mention of filter though in the description. Maybe it is done, can't confirm.
For the DSG service, Daltons coming in at around 150 for oil (quoted 6 litres) and filter and 80 quid for the labour. Rough figures but good saving.
Car is 3 years old so getting the DSG serviced now and then every 2 years from now on. I realise people will say that is overkill but I like looking after my car. Engine oil every 6 months or 10,000km whichever is sooner.
It was 2 years ago. Didn’t need the filter done, just an oil change. €100 + VAT, so €113.50 all in. Autotranz Greenhills.
Must be a long time ago. The oil for the 7 speed DSG DQ381 gearbox in the MK8 is €36 Per litre and you need a minimum of 4.5 for a fluid change. The filter and seal is another €46
Does this price include VAT? I paid 370 at a specialist last week and the filter and o ring were replaced along with the fluid using VW parts. The fluid itself is quite expensive these days.
Happy days
I've seen other positive comments for Daltons so gave them a call today. They worked out a couple of hundred euro cheaper than the VW dealer so booked my car in with them for the big service.
Daltons did all the servicing on any VAG car I've owned, I wouldn't recommend anyone else
Ok will compare prices. I was thinking about sticking to VW for the servicing to protect the resale value but I guess a good independent should be fine too. Portlaoise isn't far from me either.
I'll ask them about the DSG in the Mk8 and see what they say about the filter.
Cupra would be cheaper than VW for the same work, but if you're looking at an independent like Dalton's they will be cheaper again.
That's a big difference in price alright. Thanks for sharing that. I went on to VW main dealer website and selected oil change, all filters, brake fluid and DSG oil change came to around 870 euro. That is quite expensive. They previously charged me 250 euro for an oil change which I didn't think was too bad and car was still in VW warranty then.
I'll give Daltons in Portlaoise a call and see what they quote for the same work. Seeing rave reviews on here about them so if they are good as people say they are, they'll get my business.
Depends on the gearbox. I think the 6 speed gets oil + filter whereas the 7 speed only gets oil. Or vice versa. Either way I think you’re being ripped off. I paid €113 inc VAT for the same service from an independent gearbox specialist.
I'm looking to get the DSG oil changed at a local VW garage. They charge 325 euro which isn't too bad. I don't see any mention of the filter being changed too. Does anyone know if they change this as part of the DSG service?
I decided to get rid of my GTD while it was in warranty it has so many software issues. Like above steering wheel etc had to be replaced. Never again
