Scammed by wedding photographer

Hi,

I have been scammed by our wedding photographer who captured out wedding in Dec 2023. He is Dun Laoghaire based and runs "competitions" to win a photography package. We picked our final photos to get edited in February and have tried to contact him numerous times through text, email, phone and social media since and we have got no response. Can anyone offer any help please. Unsure where to go from here.we are absolutely devestated - nor just the money but our special memories from that day.

You could take it to the small claims court, but might be best to threaten that first! Have you a contract in place?

I believe I may be in the same boat as you. I was wondering if I could contact you somehow because I believe we may have been victim to the same man "BR". We have not been able to contact him even though his phone is still ringing with irish ringtone etc. I was worried he returned to Brazil etc.

Have you checked RIP.ie and all the hospitals?

It’s not always a scam.

Be interested to hear more about the competition and how the scam might work? If I was scamming someone I wouldn’t turn up for the wedding in the first place. Why go to that bother for the sake of editing and sending the photos?

Going by the info posted here the photographer (if I have the right one?) hasn't posted anything on their FB since Oct last year.

That would indicate to me that theyre not in business or around anymore.

I’m so sorry you are dealing with this. Did you get your photos ? I also “ won” a discount but he was constantly emailing and waaay too over keen for a bad feeling about him. Very pushy. Did you try the group help I’m getting married on Facebook ? Seems to be a lot of people offering info on different venders that have left three down etc

Just to share our experience we booked BR for our wedding and initially had no major complaints. The day itself went well. After he sent an auto email asking for a review within 5 days offering 25 extra edited images as a thank you. So we left a positive review but once that was done, he completely ghosted us.

We heard nothing for months. No timeline, no communication. I actually did look up RIP.ie Eventually, we posted on Reddit (without naming him) to ask for advice, and that’s when others came forward with similar stories. It became clear this wasn’t an isolated case, so my husband eventually named him. It took 9 months to get ours back and they were awful, not one decent photo of us and our kids.

A year later, BR reached out with a very emotional message sharing his personal struggles, saying the Reddit post caused a 60% drop in bookings and that he was struggling financially. It was a lot to receive after a year of silence, no apology, and no accountability. As a “thank you” for agreeing to remove the post, he gave us all 7,000+ photos. I didn’t pursue anything further at the time, but I honestly wish I had because he’s still misleading couples with polished marketing and failing to follow through.
