Age: 35 male
Car: 142 Kia ceed 1.4 petrol
Insurance: Zurich
Last year: €389
This year: €371
Have been very lucky with Zurich over the years. Will call and try reduce it but fine to stick with that. Just tried FBD so far and quoted €452.
If you were rear ended & deemed not at fault why is there a claim against your insurance policy? Was the other driver not insured or what?
Renewing for a 2018 Passat estate - Comfortline with no modifications. Early 30's with 6 years full Irish licence, no points, offences or claims. Now I've only 3 year's NCB as I only bought my first car in 2022, but was still a named driver on a relative's policy up to then.
Further details such as adding the OH onto the renewal gave the below quotes online:
No improvements to any quotes when ringing. Chose AXA in the end as I was with them before, had good customer experience and seemed to offer more than RedClick, but adding 24/7 breakdown cover bumped it to almost €700. Felt worth it for the peace of mind since I do long distance drives quite often at unsocial hours.
But didn't have many reasonable options this year really, so not very happy is putting it mildly. For whatever reason it seems the Passat is the problem. Showed the quotes to friends, colleagues and the OH, many with the same circumstances, age bracket and similar vehicles (e.g. Skoda Superb, Golf R, 530d) and I don't think any of them were given quotes above €500 on the first try, let alone be refused from several. Meanwhile I couldn't even get a quote from Revolut.
56yrs / Full DL / No claims / No PP / BYD Seal RWD.
Lasy year with BOI (with RSA as u/writer) was €597. Renewal at €757. Called and they reduced renewal to €682. Off to waste more time on the merry hunt. Absolute bollox from Chill as a starting point.
Haven't a clue what that means tbh...
Only a policyholder can claim indemnity from an insurance policy. In this instance, the 3rd party claimed for funds under their policy to allow them compensate you for the loss they were responsible for
Good advice, it's all in the wording especially with insurance companies.
Age: 37
Car 231 Tesla model 3 RWD
Last year: €511
This year: €560
So instead of renewing at €560 I went as a new customer with the same insurer with the exact same cover for €460
It seems that renewal customers are more risky than new ones to the tune of €100 because price walking is illegal, right? 🤔🤔🤔
If you have been fully compensated by a 3rd party, or their insurer, YOU have not had a claim, the 3rd party has. You must disclose the accident, but not a "claim'
I have it. But all insurers ask you if you have a claim and if it is settled (which it is) but they rarely ask you if you were at fault or not.
Surely you have a letter stating that the claim has been settled completely? They're some shower of cowboys any excuse to get more money out of you.
I tried. They all come back within that price range. What hurts me is a claim from 4 years ago (I was rear ended and not at fault). I am with the same insurance for the last 6 years and they were ok on price until last year. Hopefully, next year I can save a bit.
Thats very dear for a juke.
You try ringing your own insurer?
I receive my renewal and not a nice surprise. Like many here, it almost 100€ more expensive:
Age: 43
Car 191 Juke (yes, I like my sport car)
Insurance: liberty, now Red click
Last year: 477€
This year: 565€
I tried to shop around but nothing comes cheaper
Paying by instalments attracts a higher premium AFAIK.
Still better than €130! And I'm pretty sure it showed Total Cost when it offered it to me. Don't matter anyway, all sorted!
I think the €30 for paying Allianz via monthly DD is misleading. The €30 is a service charge & does not reflect the total difference in cost.
I have checked my payment options & it shows:
In options 3 & 4 the Premium, including Gov Levy, is €445.21 & €468.67 respectively without the respective service charges of €35.62 & €37.49 making the total due €480.83 & €506.16.
As you can see the difference between the lowest (€422.96) & highest (€506.16) amounts quoted is €83.20.
Thankfully, I stuck to my guns and got a few more quotes in the last hour:
Chill: €640 (and I accidentally got 2 more quotes today, €723 and €740 with the same details…) Outsurance: €1500 FBD: €741.49 Allianz: €440.18
Before additional add-ons because Allianz quote was excellent with everything added:
Zurich: €541.02 AIG: 1075.23 An Post: €584.70 Axa: No quote Quote Devil: €648.43 (Allianz)
So yes, I went with Allianz. It was €338 before adding breakdown, windscreen, driving other cars and full NCD protection. Only a €250 excess too. I'm in shock, but the opposite of yesterdays shock.
Also something I noted with most insurance companies. If you pay in full it's X amount, but paying in instalments, the additional cost varied wildly. With Allianz, if I wanted to pay by DD, it added about €30 more. One of the ones above added €130! I paid in full, but surely it's not right that one crowd can charge only €30 while another fleeces you?
Car insurance in Ireland is still a complete farce, nothing has changed since they were given a warning a few years back. There's still a cabal there dictating crazy prices… The CCPC are absolutely useless, and the Financial Services Ombudsman is non-existent. Or if I picked the wrong quangos, then whichever one is supposed to keep insurance in Ireland in check is MIA.
Finally, for shigs and giggs, I decided to see how a quote would change if I changed my extremely safe, strong Merc for the worst and most dangerous car I've ever driven, a 222 Citroen C3 Aircross. Both my knees, my lower back and shoulders were close to having permanent injuries due to how badly this vehicle is designed. It also uses a Temu level dangerously unresponsive touch screen which is below the road line (so you've to look away), it's bouncy, it's tiny and made of tin, and the safety features are broken and distracting… But it brought a quote with KennCo from €800 down to €650…
There was a condition on my last insurance policy I had with Zurich that driving other cars didn't cover me on anything over 15 years old. Younger drivers that I know can't get cover on cars of that age or older.
I would check if the conditions are like for like. 15 years is no longer "old" for a car. Look at the cars around you on the road. It the car model I suspect.
Renewal this year 2010 RAV 2.2D Aviva 5 weeks ago was 380 euro approx. Shopped around was not able to beat it.
Farmer early 60's. Full NCB.
I tried Outsurance they would not quote as I use the car farming. Not really gone on there insurance model as it traps you to get the 10% back. As well there lacknof bonus protection is a minus.
Last year Outsurance were the cheapest for a family members car. Like you they didn't like the fact that they don't provide NCB protection & went with AVIVA instead. As a risk adverse person I consider their cashback after 3 years claims free driving to be nothing short of gambling.
Once the car gets to 15 years old they charge extra, makes absolutely no sense I know especially with cars being so good now, but they do unfortunately.
2010 really ?
I'd take the 640 price if it was my choice, the age of the car is going against you unfortunately.
Renewal due next week. 42m, 2010 E-Class 220d Coupe, 18 years full Irish licence, no claims ever, no points, living in an area not named in address searches, have a work van. Full payment, Fully Comp, Breakdown assist:
Renewal Aviva: €743.59 (think I got it for €720 last year, €626 the year before)
Chill (online): €640 cheapest, next was €850
Outsurance (call after failed online quote): €1500+…
I've stopped after that shock. I'll try again during the week, not in the form anymore today…

This year €388.42 (includes Free lifetime NCD protection for staying with AXA for 10+ years without claims)
Also mentioned other cover option
Third Party fire & Theft: €367.17
I went with Zurich too. Good Price and looks to be good policy. 123.ie doubled their quote without reason.
In my case they were 80% more expensive than zurich plus no protected NCB
As mentioned previously in thread. Outsurance very cheap but no protected no claims which to me is a major issue. I was on the point of buying policy on phone with them when I queried how much to add full bonus protection.... not offered.
Zurich
Last year €362.60

Time to go shopping.
