Be a bit closer to myself up in Donegal, wonder will it have much effect? Good few people picking up Starlinks up here, I tried to get a lad to hold one in Currys for me when they had 3 in stock but 2 days later they were all sold when I went in.
I'm not using my starlink V2 kit so tempted to sell it. Have the starlink arm mount, dish, base, cable etc. anyone interested give us a shout. North County Dublin
V2 is better than the newer stuff imo. They cut costs all over the shop with later generations
Possibly lower latency, depends on course what backhaul will be available to the site.
Does the MANs fibre network extend that far?
Any Starlink ground station I've seen on the internet has maybe 6 or 7 domed antenna. I wonder if this site will require planning permission?
Looks like a single 1.85m antenna is planned in Killala Business Park
Seems to aye: https://www.enet.ie/coverage/ My latency on average is already on par with Imagine (20-30ms), the jitter is cat though Can be anything from 15-30+ms of jitter. Wonder if its contention with the whole country going through Cork, or just an artifact of how it works. Does seem to depend what sats overhead, some of them have very low jitter.
Western People has a piece. Local councillor Jarlath Munnelly wants to see full planning process.

Looks like it won't require planning permission, exempted development
S.I. No. 600/2001 - Planning and Development Regulations, 2001, Class 31(d) of Part 1 of Schedule 2 of the Planning and Development Regulations refers

The SES at Garrettstown, Kinsale, Co. Cork, (P17 RK37), mentioned in the application, went through an An Bord Pleanála process back in 2020/21, for a determination that the SES was an exempted development. ABP agreed it was an exempted development.

More Radomes arrive in Ireland : r/Starlink
Another application to ComReg for a Satellite Earth Station Licence. This time for Amazon Kuiper, to be located at Elfordstown Earthstation, Midleton Cork.
The document states "the proposed Kuiper GWs in Ireland is located at 51.953358 °N, -8.174598 °E. The closest known authorized Starlink GW is 50 km away near Garrettstown"
I assumed there was also a Starlink gateway at Elfordstown with 4 domed dishes but no mention of it here. The satellite image of the site appears to show these 4 dishes at the SE part of the site, Streetview image.
Were they made redundant when the 9 dishes came online at Garrettstown? Two Starlink earth stations in close proximity might not work.
Small error in the document, page 14, a copy and paste from the previous Starlink application at Killala
Therefore, ComReg proposes to grant Amazon a licence for its proposed SES at Killala.

Just got starlink installed in to the house. Its placed in the home office.
Very good speed there however at the other end of the house signal is very poor.
What options are there to extend the signal all over the house..?
Starlink have their own mesh router.its just plug in and also wireless.
Would hardwired tp-link be a better option.
Thanks.
Why not have installed it more centrally in the house ? Often the simpler method works best. I've installed mine in the attic smack bang in the middle (bungalow) covers nearly all of 200sqm
It not quite half way maybe a third of the way.Pretty large house.
I'll try it centrally in the attic and see how it goes.
The hot attic in this weather should be no problem to the router I assume.
Thanks for reply.
I use the wireless TP-Link AC2600 and an N300 in our 2,100sqft bungalow.
The starlink router is in the living room feeding the TV and CCTV camera at the rear, while the AC2600 is at the opposite end of the house in the utility which links to the zappi. The N300 is the home office and links to the CCTV camera at the front of the house.
All our TV viewing comes through the starlink. The setup works seamlessly.
200 sqM isn't small 😉
yes, hardwired deco far superior option. The starlink mesh is expensive and anything wired will be superior to wireless mesh
I got a second starlink router as a mesh just for simplicity as the main router is placed to one side of the house (4bed dormer) due to cable length and entry restraints. The node is placed centrally in the house. We have NBP now and I haven't bothered switching as Starlink is working so well.
Packed up the Starlink today. Still undecided if I'll hold on to it as a back-up or sell it on.
Is there much demand for a Gen2 dish and router these days?
about €200 until free dish offer came out. Depends if it comes back or not, just lasted a few weeks.
Probably worthless if free dish offer comes back
Some people might prefer the older motorised versions over the new point it yourself ones?
i wouldnt, those cables more likely to go faulty and G3 faster. And G3 router wifi far superior to G2 wifi
Have found none of this to be true at all. Parents have the G3 and ive the G2. There dish make more noise, frequency style sound. And their WiFi coverage isn't as good as mine. I installed both.
Starlink are only cutting costs with the newer equipment they're aren't improving the tech. Its just cheaper components across the board. Don't believe the hype . Even the plastics are cheaper. Why do you think they can offer equipment free now ?... because it's cost capable. They wouldn't offer the well designed and component rich units for zero cost in the past simply because they couldn't.
My Gen 3 also makes a coil whine noise, thought it might have just been a bad unit. Router also makes it, not as loud though.
My gen 2 kit is sitting idle, if anyone is interested. North County Dublin.
Hi folks,
Thinking of setting up my starlink at my parents with the residential lite option. What are the limits on it? They dont use much internet at all, just some iPad streaming and we might use it the odd time we visit for netflix etc. they using a three SIM card at the moment
Thanks
Mick
potentially slower speed. Some say see no difference but I saw 100Mbps on an install v 200-300 normally. Still unlimited data and can change back next month if you want, so worth a try.
Definitely beats three IMO. I have three as a backup for last 4 years. Wouldn't hold a tea to the starlink at all.
