I keep meaning to mention that unit called Bia Boru most recently has the units torn out. It's the bottom of eyre square centre facing out on to square
Also another random vape/sweet shop combo opened opposite city library.
Great stuff, good location for the City IMHO especially as Council look to be going ahead with plans for Kingston Park + it will be close to the BUS Connects main City Spine route as well.

Those vape/sweet shops around the city are very overpriced. They are charging €4.00 for a chocolate milk drink that Spar down near millstreet Garda station have for €2.39.
Great location for people living in the west of the city.
But there's already a pool i salthill. So somewhere in the east, near the bus connects corridor, would be be better overall, surely.
Either way, what really matters is funding and construction.
still needed though. leisureland is way over subscribed. Could easily support two pools west of the river and the same east.
Does anyone know when VHI plan to open their upgraded 360 health centre in Galway? They mentioned early 2025 but we are now pretty much halfway through the year.

Leisure land is close to it end of life. Generally, in-ground pools can last 20-30 years.
Modern pools are more efficient (geo thermal heated). i think it's good forward planning.
Primary care centre in Westside has been signed off by the HSE. Construction expected to start within a year.

The sudden announcement was made after funding was pulled from a major developer, understood to be Microsoft.
Yeah it's a new Costa at the front of the car park. Pity it's a Costa but otherwise a good location for a coffee place, with a busy bus stop across the road that's to become an even busier hub. Also school drop-offs nearby, that car park is a designated park & stride for those arriving by car.
Is GPO/Carbon being worked on. I noticed exterior had been painted and lights on inside a few days ago. Hadn't heard anything since Weatherspoons pulled out.
Lipstick on a pig AFAIK: the council threatened them with a derelict site's notice so they slapped some paint on.

Minor works currently ongoing at the Higgins site near IVOR's on the Rahoon Road side - may or may not be related to this
I thought the O'Higgins site would be part of this development, but looking at the drawings on the planning application it doesn't include this? Maybe that is part of a second phase?

I'm surprised after the Joyce's takeover that they'd still be in expansion mode in Galway. Which of the larger towns in the county is still without a Tesco? Probably a likely contender, otherwise another Express store for the city...
Its going into a unit in bailey point in salthill, beside the new energie gym.
I think Tesco were hoping to build a big store opposite Western Motors in Briarhill/Coolough. As you drive to Monivea Road from Parkmore, it would be in front of you.
Edited to add: Planning Ref: 07139. Page 225 in drawings says Proposed Foodstore Development on behalf of Tesco.
That's almost 20 years old and it was refused.
Hope they plan their exit better than Dunnes in Briar Hill.
