All driven by the banding model. A high-band 100 cow herd can add 13 extra cows if they went beneath the 6,300kg.. whether those 13 are worth it in the zero sum game of production I suppose depends on the farmer.

I should have said 15 extra cows earlier (thought it was 104kg not 106kg).
In simple terms I suppose you'd be 19% up on the 6300 cow's production, but you could keep 15% more cows in the middle band, so 7,245kg would seem to be the middle ground on production (assuming inputs/outputs are equal which is a shortfall)

The 15 extra cows cost alot to carry too. Every cow needs to be pulling their weight now with the cost of keeping them in the lifestyle they have become accustomed to.
I'd say 1st calvers would want to be producing 450 KgMS, second calvers producing 500 Kg and a mature cow should be 600 KgMs plus.
Less cows more milk is a great plan but sometimes it's easier to have more mediocre cows.
Banding was an issue for me but the last 2 years have been bad years for milk here so the fact that I have become less efficient is a good thing according to the architects of the banding system. 🤔🫡
herd is +29kgs for milk on the ebi report here. If they get the rest of the year as good as they have the first half they’ll do 7000 l at 3.75 pr 4.65 bf. And we’ve came from minus kgs. You don’t need high milk bulls to sell milk solids

they do but fat and protein are equally if not more important imo
You could be sending massive litres with crap solids and getting below base price, so solids are important
Solids essentially give price per litre and then you multiply that price by the number of litres produced.

It's nice to be thinking that cows will have 8000l by December. That's counting your chickens before they hatch.
A few years cows were dry early because of a bad October. A bad TB outbreak would not be long cutting production. They are warning today to be cautious of bluetougue.
