Can anyone stop Scottie?
2025 U.S. Open Golf Championship
Can Rors add to his tally?
I watched most of the televised 1st round cuz I'd sweet fa else to do. Found it tedious to be honest.
Today I watched very little.
Only interest I'll have over the weekend is if Hovland stays in touch.
Are you saying the same players are getting all the balls in the rough with good lies?
Always hate if a few more putts dropped for x or y would be up there or won. When you could say the same thing for basically every other player.
Us open setup I think could do a little better with the rough. Seems like a couple of yards off the fairway and dead. Make it tough but not stupid
Round 2 will resume at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning following today’s suspension due to weather. Round 3 will be played in groups of two off of No. 1. Tee times will run from approximately 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
There are six players to finish.....
Barbaree and Lewis (a) are finishing the 8th (their 17th) which their playing partner Calkins has completed.
Buchanan, Simpson (a) and Bachou are playing the 18th.
They will go out at 12:30 p.m. Irish time and R3 tee times will be from 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Irish.
I'm really enjoying it. Bit OTT as usual saying calling it muck.
Some people just enjoy a birdie fest. If it's a difficult course where you have to think your way around it and accept a bogey to save worse they are not happy.
I don’t mind the leaderboard even though it lacks some big names. We would be giving out if someone was walking away with it
I don’t mind the leaderboard.
But it is a rather boring tournament all the same. a few charges through the field today would change that of course. But can’t help feeling it’s more likely going to a case of last man standing on Sunday evening, rather than someone going out and winning it.
You can charge through the field at -2 when everyone else is +4 in the same way you could at -9 when everyone else is -3
Crikey, 16 over par, 5 level par and only 3 under par of the early starters.
It might well be an over par score that wins it.
Finding this hugely boring.
I don’t honestly believe this is true. On a standard tough course, the elite players can attack pins on most holes, once they get their eye in and confidence up.
They can’t do that here as the risk of a double bogey - and the complete end to their chances - is a stroke of bad luck away. The only way to cut through this field from 7 back is for all the leaders to freefall. Which isn’t out of the equation here. But it’s unlikely. Hence my “last man standing” thoughts above.
I don't think the leaderboard is that bad. You've got Hovland, Scott, Koepka, Burns in the top 10, Griffin who's one of the form players this year. Does simply not having Bryson/Rory/Scheffler near the top mean it's a bad leaderboard these days?
It could be considerably more interesting with the rough not so penal.
The greens are still going to be seriously tough. But with less killer rough it would allow us to see some proper shot-making and creativity, rather than gouging it out.
Don't think ive seen so many shot-tracer shots where drives land in fairways and then just point off at some crazy angle and end up missing the fairway by 2 yards and have to be hacked out sideways.
Just heard the commentator say that of the 67 players who made the cut, Rory is ranked 65th on proximity approach shots.
Here's an interesting image that popped up on screen as well.
It's tough out there.
i think this has been fantastic viewing, lots of Majors lately might aswell the top pro's playing on a public course.
There are opportunities to attack pins, just fewer than you might normally get. And you need to accuravy off the tee to create the opportunity. There are plenty of birdies and better out there. But also plenty of doubles and worse. Hovlands second round is a good example. More under par holes than over and about the same amount of pars.
I would prefer the setup that severely punishes inaccuracy off the tee than watching Bryson smash it all over place last year and keep getting away with it
Hovland likely to be taking a drop shot after his opening tee shot. It went way right, across a path and into some bushes. I doubt he'll be able to play from there. He's played a provisional ball that's much better.
Spaun really is a class golfer, if they didn't set the game up to be a slug fest he'd be one of the best out there.
The Players and now here, where accuracy is really rewarded, he's really looking top class.
I like an occasional tournament like this. If you are in the rough or a bunker, you are going to be punished. If you don't hit greens, you will struggle. Really fancied Scheffler, you never know when pressure comes on the leaders. There are a lot of holes playing over par
Spaun some pace putter
Burns looks very comfortable out there.....
Rooting for Holland.
Burns still in front. He'll play with Adam Scott tomorrow after his excellent round. Spaun right there and Hovland three back. I can't see anybody else getting into it.
Seriously great golf today by final 2 pairings, nobody blowing themselves out of it.
Looked very solid in the final round at the Players too, doesn't look phased. I fancy him to win tomorrow.
CMON Scotty u deserve a seond major.
Very enjoyable watching it play out last nite .All likable guys ,but as a older golfer love to Adam Scott get the job done .
The thought of Adam Scott winning this makes me gag. Hoping Hovland can pull it off.
How come?
