Surely it would be in TM best interests to have Rory playing a driver that works rather than a driver thats making him miss cuts.
Practicing with the Qi10 today
Not really,,, Rory not using their newest driver,,would be completely damaging to their claims that the new driver is class ..blaw blaw blaw.
TM would be absolutely horrified and damage is already done , " that even Rory won't play their new driver ".
Imagine that been said at a weekend 4 ball ...golfers are gas when it comes to equipment...reputation is everything...
This has often happened and what they'll do is package the older driver and add a + to the name of the new one with a paint job and painted face or something on Rory's old driver to make it look the same as the new one.
Don't know any golfers who think they're Rory McIlroy. Doubt there are lads out there in droves saying they won't buy the Qi35 because it doesn't suit Rory. If they're in that market, they're probably being fitted, so what Rory thinks won't matter.
I don't know what golf world you live in, there are plenty of people out there that want to play with the same driver as Rory.
A world where MOST people can't afford 650 quid drivers every year.
TMs target demographic is not "most" people. It's wealthy Americans who can afford it.
There are lots of golfers who want to play with the same driver as Rory. It baffles me someone would actually argue or believe otherwise.
Well you'll likely remain baffled given your comprehension skills. Since I never said people wouldn't want to play with the same driver.
i mean…
Doubt there are lads out there in droves saying they won't buy the Qi35 because it doesn't suit Rory. If they're in that market, they're probably being fitted, so what Rory thinks won't matter.
"there are lots of golfers" v "doubt there are lads out there in droves"
If you want to insult someone and be dismissive, it's important you're correct. You're not.
Golfers are absolutely daft when it comes to new equipment ,, even if not the actual club, the brand damage to TM over the whole episode is unbelievable...
One of my fourball on Sunday has recently purchased a Qi35 and has been going well with it. Lots of comments about how he's better than McIlroy now. Mainly from lads at retirement age or older - it's absolutely noticed when someone like Rory has issues with a particular model of club.
Scottie Scheffler is with TaylorMade as well. I doubt there'll be much impact on their brand.
If any golfer is serious when getting fitted they need to start the fitting with telling the fitter not so say anything about shaft/head brand etc. Only at the end when they are down to the last two/three should it come into play e.g. +€150 for TM but only gaining 3yds so not worth it.
If the golfer is a brand follower then enough said
Whilst Scottie is clearly best golfer in the world...Rory a proper star of game even of sport...
Rory must get about double even more the attention, impact , press,, inside and outside the game...
It’s like all sports and companies know it and price it accordingly. Kids want boots Ronaldo or Messi etc have on their feet. People and bikes. Spending thousands on a bike when really 1k or 5k bike while their stomachs are only a few inches off the crossbar and won’t make much of a difference to them on the bike. Vast majority of golfers are no different when it comes to clubs and balls. 300 or 600 driver won’t make much difference
Yes with non-golfers. Anybody spending big money on new clubs knows what Scottie is playing with.
First driver of the week just the 392 yards…
HHopefully He get bird...
Off to a very nice start. In.thede conditions himself and Scottie will rip it apart.
Yeah, great start. Hopefully he can keep the driver going and he could do well this week.
I admit impressive start ,,, but be amazing if someone rips it apart.
Both will definitely have a double at least once....I'd imagine
There's six par 4s around 400 yards or less. Even with a 3 wood or long iron off the tee they'll be hitting a regular wedge at most to the green and there's a short par 5 as well.
If they are dialled in they'll shout -6 easily. Rory looks sharp right now and Scottie is almost always dialled in.
Sure we will see..
I'll be impressed if anyone gets round without at least a double...
There will not be a single easy -6 shot all this week.
If the ball is stopping on the green all through the tournament the winning score will be in double digits. I'd predict -16 needed to win it.
Bookies line for winning score is -2.5 so if you're sure of that I'd go take it to the bank.
Personally I think there's absolutely no chance anyone gets near -16.
If my granny had balls....
His putting is costing him so far..could easily be 2 or 3 better. Still -1 after 12 isn't bad
I said if the ball is stopping on the green all through the tournament. I haven't looked at the weather, if it dries out level par will be a great score each day.
