Clear Mobile - New 5G 12.99/14.99 Deal 2025?

Posting this here since someone asked about it in the Sky Mobile thread, and I didn’t want to take that one off-topic.

Looks like Clear Mobile has updated their offering recently. They’re a Vodafone-owned MVNO, and honestly, their old deal wasn’t great… €12.99/€14.99 a month for 4G with a 5Mbps speed cap. Pretty terrible for 2024/2025.

But now it seems they’ve removed the speed cap and added 5G! I spotted this on Switcher.ie earlier today. The bit about speeds might seem unclear, so I asked their live chat team. They told me the speeds listed are just estimated maximums, not actual caps, and you can potentially get higher speeds than advertised. I wonder if this is a marketing tactic to stop people from signing up.

This lines up with how Vodafone and the new Sky Mobile word their terms and conditions, so it’s probably just a legal thing to cover themselves. If that’s true, Clear Mobile is hands down the best-value option right now for unlimited 5G data with no speed caps—€12.99/month if you’re switching from Eir, Sky, Three, Tesco, or 48. Plus, it’s Vodafone-powered, has Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE, and there’s no 12-month contract. Sky Mobile would be a close second.

If you’re joining from other networks or getting a new connection, it’s €14.99/month.

I did see some complaints online about their payment system, but I asked their live chat about it, and they said it was fixed back in December. The negative reviews stopped after that, so it seems sorted. Plus if you have any issues, there is no contract, you can just port out!

This deal runs until 15/07/25.

Has anyone else run into issues using this providers SIM in a 4g or 5g router? I can't get it to work for data, after messing about with lots of APNs.

Im aware however it would be a pain in the hole where I live. I can walk 100 yards to the shore. Which I do regularly and the UK signal will be stronger. I drive along the shoreline of Lough Foyle into the North a lot. The UK signal is stronger depending on what part of the road Im on. Should I pull in and select the UK access point? Then pull in again to switch back? Think I'll stay with AnPost as my phone can auto select the strongest data signal.

Damn. Was just about to switch from anpost mobile but I live right on the border with NI so depending where I am I switch between here and roaming data a lot. Cant be arsed changing access point manually. An post seems to have no problem with 1 access point covering data here and UK data on Vodafone (isp.postfone.ie)...

I usualy have around 25 Mb/s as upload for the last 3 month that I'm now using 48 as my main internet provider in my router. I have yet to discover issues with it and I do a lot of Zoom and Teams Video.

Generally, my speed test looks like this with the MSAK test that M-Lab is doing consistently being lower which is due to it testing multi-stream tests which is a better indication than other tests.

I went back to the start of 2024 on Speedtest when I was switching from one to the other. These were the results I got at my house. So upload is just not great across the board where I am lol

I mean this is a perfect example of the Three network being poor, how do you have almost 300Mbps download but only 8Mbps up? If anything having a somewhat decent upload speed matters quite a bit these days if you are trying to send someone photos, videos or anything via social media. With the Three network I always struggled sending people videos.

In my experience no, with Three I would have full bars of 4G or 5G and have unusable speeds or no internet connection at all.

The network is way too congested with all the MVNOs operating on it, they have the most market share by far if you combine all the MVNOs that use Three's network.

Maybe just paying extra, with a VF sim is the sensible way to go.

Assume having two sims is no issue. With VF already. Need to look into it.

That’s true actually you could just get Vodafone for €20. You could also just get an unlimited 5G prepay sim in Three or eir for €20 also.

Rather than going with Clear Mobile for 12.99/month on bill pay, why not just pop into a Vodafone store and get the 20 euro PAYG offer? It's pre-pay, unlimited and you have no worry about being overcharged or whatever else.

@moonboy52 I forgot to mention that there’s activation fees so it’s not just €12.99 each to try them.

With Clear Mobile, as others have mentioned, it seems you order the sim and the €12.99 activation covers you until the next month’s billing cycle, so now is probably a good time to join.

I think you can get a free month and a Penneys or Just Eat €10 voucher by getting a referral link also, which I’m sure someone here would give you.

With 48, its a €12.99 activation fee and €12.99pm. There’s also a referral program though which gets you credit that you could use for your next membership and a €10 Aldi, Uber or Penneys voucher. Again someone here on Boards would give you one or I can, just PM me.

So there are ways of getting around the activation fees for both.

48 is not speed limited like Clear but as you said Vodafone may be less congested or have lower ping in your area. It’s just too difficult to know until you give them a go.

When 48 is prepay and Clear is no contract i’d try both for a month each and then you’d know.

True that, test them all. Good advice. It is the center of a city and 4G & 5G is good with VF & Three, with the mast(s) being maybe 400 metres away at a guess.

You would just have to give each of them a go to see which is best. They all have their own black spots and issues in areas.

You can check https://siteviewer.comreg.ie/ to see the operators on the masts around you.

But again you wouldn’t really know until you tried them yourself.

Until i sort broadband in the new place, would Clear be a more stable route to go for, in regards to ping/jitter etc over the likes of 48? Thinking the VF Network might be less congested.

Will be tethered to a router from the phone for a while until a dedicated device is bought.

The speed being 80 or 100 is not the concern, the quality of the connection is. (Understand the distance from the mast is a major factor)

Anyone with any thoughts on this, would appreciate it
