Shooting in Carlow

Someone walked into Tesco at Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow town and started shooting the place up. Shot dead by Garda Armed Response Unit. Unconfirmed reports that another 6 people had been shot by him. No reports of any other fatality.

Carlow town (where I am) is in lockdown.

Seems to be a media blackout on it at the moment.

Well… maybe that’s changing? Of course I’m being pretty hyperbolic, but it’s terrifying to imagine. I visit the fairgreen often with my family. I will have a hard time doing that going forward as I imagine plenty will.

Shooting took place in Tesco. Multiple shots fired.

Seems the man shot himself.

The injured child's injuries are not life threatening. RTE unsure if the child was shot or how the child sustained injuries , ie in the panic evacuating.

RTE finally finished their lunch break and are back at work

Live in Carlow and so far I've heard there were 7 shot, there's more than one shooter, they shot themselves, the gardai shot him, the gardai should have disarmed him, there are more out there waiting to go on shooting sprees..…and thats without the racist agenda which is jumped on straight away.

Because the "mainstream" media are so slow to report anything it's giving those with agendas spaces to get their version out.

By the way, I understand why RTE are slow to report on this because of the riots a couple of years ago after that attack in Dublin. But I don't agree with them being this slow (it's still not on their website at the time of this post), it will look to some that they're hiding something and will only confirm the biases of the right wing conspiratorial nutjobs online, who are already extremely distrustful of mainstream media.

Edit: it seems like they finally reported on it, at 20.11 (much later than other media organisations) and it's still not the main news headline.

The reason they are slow to report this is everyone is on holiday and not expecting any news this weekend. Presumably the webmaster was on-call and hurriedly put up a post when paged.

Despite their massive budget having a round the clock news desk was deemed too costly.
