Won't argue with most of the above. We were outclassed and we didn't help ourselves with how we were set up and the ball into the forwards. Half forwards were very poor overall and only Murphy really was a threat. Glynn buzzed around a lot but made the wrong choice nearly every time he got the ball.
Couldnt understand allowing Tipp have the short puckout against a strong wind and then allowing them to easily work the ball up the field and pick a good ball into a very dangerous full forward line.
That was a disappointing performance..we never really got going..half forwards were completely out of it..Murphy had the beating of his man but he needs a very specific type of ball into him which he didn't get enough of..he will never win a foot race. In fairness, tipp did hurl well..they drove very few wides..plenty tipp supporters were frustrated with some of their tippy tappy play in the backs..in the first half especially
Sorry I did not mean to contradict. Was the sweeper put in place for use of possession or to cover some of our backs defensive frailties? I'm clearly not a fan of the sweeper, the remark for a full time sweeper was highlighting how bad Lyng and Hickey were, they were bet up a stick even with an extra body around and constantly caught in possession
Not sure what you mean by what are we at playing a sweeper and then saying that Hickey and Lyng always need a sweeper around them, not having a go just seems like a contradiction, for me this team didnt have enough to win an all Ireland, which to be fair I think you said in previous posts, there is some talent there, more than what was thought when they were minors, but was always going to be a struggle for them when they came up against a team like Tipp, they did better than expected this year and I think that should be kept in mind when talking about todays game. Also if Nowlan Park is going to hold All Ireland Finals on a regular basis we are going to be beaten in a lot of them, think we just need to accept that and not make it a bigger thing than it is.
We didn't play to those players strengths though, In fact I have absolutely no idea what our game plan was.
Take away Murphy and we have zero scoring threat. He scored 1-2, handpassed off another point to Brennan and was fouled for 3 more and the keeper made a big save from him in the first half, which he needed to bury, saying that there is surely another 25% in him. What are we at playing a sweeper, it was scandalous to watch we must have been turned over for 3-7. Mcevoy, Lahouff, Mcphiilips, Mcdermott were poor up the pitch, Hickey and Lyng were terrible in the backs, they need a sweeper around them full time to cover them
This post pretty much says it all, was going to say something similar.
How in the name of God are we so brain dead coaching wise at all grades of our County teams, It was very frustrating to be in Nowlan Park today.
Glynn and Brennan were the best of the forwards I thought Bolger Vereker and lyng were best of the backs and battled manfully throughout against the tipp tide
But the game seemed to pass so many of the other players by or they just couldn’t get into it
The commentator on the radio said Brennan was playing with a broken foot. Was in a boot until a few days ago and had to get injections to play.
Rory Glynn was the only forward who played with any intensity and effort. Murphy was good under a high ball but that's not enough. The other four forwards were miles off the workrate you expect from a Kilkenny team. As for playing a sweeper with a gale behind you and still leaving him back there when ten points down, hard to understand the thinking there.
Hopefully the minors can kick on and win, now that looks like a very good Kilkenny team reminiscing our minor teams in the 00s.
Tipp can now add today to last years inor victory plus 16 and 19 in Senior. They certainly have our number at all grades.
Amazed that people are surprised by the result
Well done Tipp great display far better team and Tipp will get plenty of hurlers out of that squad Kilkenny on the other hand not so much
Two years in a row Kilkenny beaten in their own back yard
That second half could be summed up best by Einstein
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results
Embarrassed again by tipp
it’s actually shocking, it wouldn’t entice you back even after a victory, better atmosphere down through the years at league games
Murphy was the only forward causing bother, they should have sent on more on top of him, float them in against the breeze in the second half.
The game plan wasn't working and they had no plan B
That team was beaten before the game started. Completely over coached to the short passing style that they didn't play the conditions in the first half. No press on the Tipp puck out. Sideways passes and taking about 6 handpasses to get to midfield. Playing a sweeper with a gale. McDermott and McEvoy shouldn't have seen the second half. And really the players looked like they never thought they'd win.
Well done Tipp
Destroyed
Exact same thought. Both teams playing "modern" hurling. Awful tripe to watch. Game will be gone in 5/10 years as a spectacle if this persists
Two down at halftime and I'm pretty sure we had the breeze in that half. Quite simply we have to stop conceding their puckouts, giving them the ball is alllowing them to work the ball into a scoring position far too easily. Particularly when we have the wind it doesn't make much sense to allow them to have the ball so easily. I don't think we've overturned possession once inside their 45. Half forwards aren't in the game at all. Not confident we can turn this around in the 2nd half.
if this is the future of hurling, I don’t know what to say. Barely a whimper in the crowd. Shocking rubbish to watch.
Wouldn't take any notice of some on this forum all they do is champion their own club members
My God you are insufferable you are referring to the streets of Kilkenny which is a major fundraiser for Kilkenny City Harriers a club that is around along time in Kilkenny and have produced many great athletes that our City should be very proud of. There are other sports available to people in our city not just GAA. People like you and your attitude make people hate the GAA. I can also tell you that KCH trained many young men and women over the years during the weather months for them to go back to their clubs fit for hurling and camoige. Just also for your information one of Kilkenny best fitness coaches Noel Richardson is a coach with KCH that club that shouldn't have their fundraiser.
Those pubs you refer to I hope they bar you.
In the park here, definitely outnumbered
sound, I thought that would be fairly full👍
keep me a barrier I’m on my way. UP THE CATS
50 odd sitting in it at the min
What about the other end, the seated side?
It's mostly Tipp fans in the section I'm in atm interestingly. Camogie team were very poor and deservedly lost.
