New season so time to open the spring thread.
Will we get an improvement from the previous two stinkers? Time will tell.
A mostly cloudy and dry start in Dublin 13 with any rain spreading southeast fizzling out.
Haven't noticed much of a temperature drop from last week apart from the chill caused by the rain combined with wind aside from the one warm day which I think was Wednesday last week? Temperatures are currently slightly below average but due to all the wind/rain/cloud it's not feeling mild at all. A chance things may settle down briefly around the 10th of June but most of the modelling shows low pressure never too far away from us right out to mid June.
We've had a great Spring apart from Easter week and this final week of Spring but let's hope this isn't a Summer 2020 style long term unsettled spell, that we see some sort of improvement in June with at least a week of nice weather at some point during each of the summer months.
Very low rainfall amounts on the Kilkenny-Laois border since the breakdown took hold. Any rain that fell is quickly evaporating in the persistent westerly breeze. This morning's frontal rain is very light. Grass on well drained/poor/sandy soils is yellowing and the edges of the roads have orange grass right where grass meets the tar.
Hopefully predicitions of a change in pattern later next week in the FI thread come true, absolutely autumnal out there today in Cork. 44kmh gusting 63kmh.
an absolute filthpig of a day here in Meath, 3th day in a row of dark skies, wind and rain. There are hints towards an improvement around 5th/6th of June but I don't feel confident in this just yet, need more consistent model runs over the next 5 days.
Another rinse and repeat day of rain tomorrow.
14mm so far at Finner(7.8mm) previous hour. Ground is getting a good soaking today.
The only time I got to see the sun today was when it was setting.
Intense shower of rain here in Meath, rain bouncing up off the ground and spray everywhere. Fire lit for the evening, first fire in over a month.
That was a fair squall line alright Gonzo. It had just passed me when I took the above photo and headed in your direction!
Very chilly tonight, I have the gas on 1st time in over 3 weeks as nights then where chilly
another dark, cool wet day here in Meath, it's basically been raining almost non stop in the form of drizzle, mist, light rain, moderate rain, heavy rain and random downpours since Friday afternoon with just a few short breaks in between.
Spring 2025 can be remembered as 2 very wet weeks, one at Easter and the other final week of May, the rest of Spring was mostly glorious sunshine and dry.
Grand soft morning with that rain falling, the place looks so much greener the past couple of days
Torrential rain in Limerick City this morning. Was supposed to be playing golf in Portarlington at 11am. this morning. Very relieved to get a text saying the outing was cancelled.
Rain further south than forecast today. Just some short spots of drizzle. That was it.
May really was a lovely month for me. 2 great weeks from 3rd to 17th and then I had a stunning hot week in the Canaries up until Sunday. The last few days have been a real shock to the system but hopefully things will pick up again soon. I’ll be off “gallivanting” anyway for a bit over the summer just in case because the thoughts of 3 months of todays weather would chill you to the bones in every sense.
Oh my goodness, what a change in weather here in east clare. Pissing rain currently and has been for the last 2 days.
The extremes are the killer.
It's been a miserable 5 days for sure after all the sunshine, the outlook is fairly grim as well looking at the charts tonight with the washout continuing for the week ahead. Always the same after a prolonged sunny spell unfortunately
Started off ok this morning but miserable then. Also noticed that it seems a lot darker in the evening. I hope we don't get a summer like this. Past couple were horrible. 🙏🤞🌞
Agree with all the above posts. It's a real shock to the system because if most of May was as good as it gets, what we have now is as bad as it gets. I'll be off gallivanting myself in a few weeks, however though it's nice to get away, having decent weather at home, from the comforts of home, is truly wonderful, as we all experienced all those lovely weeks.
Ya there's a distinct pattern change for the coming few weeks. Much cooler and unsettled with rain or showers nearly all the days in the West a few dry ones in the East. Temperatures will be below average most of the time too with very brief above average spells. It seems Summer is our only season with below average temperatures nowadays.
You have to laugh (summer being only season below average)
Well at least we’re getting the Atlantic rubbish now and hopefully by late June and into July our summer will actually start with HP back in control.
Of course this could be another rinse and repeat of the last two summers but we are due a bit of luck so keeping positive for now.
Showers today but thankfully currently dry with intermittent sunshine on our cruise on the Shannon in Killaloe!
The green ooze to our north is back, and once that's in place, it's hard to shift.
Shannon Airport not only had its sunniest spring on record but its sunniest of any season on record in 2025.
Its sunniest seasons:
Spring 2025 607.9 hrs
Summer 1968 589.5 hrs
Spring 2010 583.8 hrs
Summer 1949 569.9 hrs
Summer 1995 568.4 hrs
Spring 1955 563.9 hrs
The sunniest 3-month period here stands at April-June 1957 with 664.0 hrs.
That is amazing. It was a superb Spring.
I am starting to see a pattern that April and May are the driest months of the year for several stations.
Athenry stood at 0.0mm rainfall for so long but it has managed 37.9mm since the 4 week dry/sunny spell ended. I was golfing yesterday evening and the course is recovering fast after all the drought.
Today is a decent day as long as the rain holds off.
Exceptional indeed. Winter 2010 and winter 55/56 were very cold so be interesting if that trend continues!
After a showery morning,it has turned out a lovely afternoon/evening with sunny spells and temps up to 18C.
A much better day today in Meath after 4 days of continuous rain/drizzle/mist.
Might even get the lawn cut this evening
Seeing some posts re ECM run showing a heat spike at day 10? Pinch of salt?

My husband bet you too it and good job he did as lashing rain again now so it wouldn't be cut again for a while!
