Happy with that team selected although I wouldn't have minded Tallis instead of Eoin Murphy but that's a minor quibble.
Limerick moved Hannon from wing forward to centre back. Clare moved Conlan from full forward to centre back. Galway have moved Gavin Lee from wing forward to centre back. All of those lads were/are scoring forwards. Teams are willing to sacrifice scoring forwards since a centre back is more important to a team’s success. The lads who have played centre back, Richie Reid, Carey, Deegan and Blanchfield, haven’t looked the answer to it. Worth trying Mullen as he’s good in the air, equally good striker off either side, well able to pick out a pass, quick turn of pace, decent tackling wise and he can strike long range points. It might actually help the forwards more if he’s on the ball more since his deliveries could be better than what has been going into them.
Yes i would agree with all that. Deegan and Reid in there 30s now, there long enough and have limitations, while Carey and Blanchfield are better on the wings, they just don't have the quality of hurling required for a centre back in possession at the highest level. We need a top quality centre back or else we will be waiting longer for an All Ireland. Hopefully it works out well for him now.
Hopefully Drennan has a good game and gets a bit of confidence back, good to see Bay Hammond get a run as well.
If you've seen him for the last number of years for the shamrocks he is worth a shot there.
They probably looking to see if Mullen can handle Chin at 11 for Wexford, then he can handle any other centre forward in Ireland.
A chance for Drennan and Wall to put their hands up aswel.
That’s the minor Leinster Final. The U20 AI Final is on Saturday week at 3pm
Apologies Brian I thought the post was about the next game 👍
I remember well Kilkenny's AI victory against Galway in 2015. Our 11th AI under Cody, our 8th in 10 years. By the time we reached the M50 after the match, talk had turned to the club chamionship. The homecoming was a damp squib. We were spoiled by our success
Since then, we have contested 10 AI in 10 years between Senior, U20 and minor. Won 1 of these matches, questioned by Limerick missing a few players
We need a big crowd to support our team. The crowd does make a difference. We need a successful team to get behind. We have an AI20 Final next week and 2 Leinster Finals the following week.Need all the crowd suppording us
we have a Leinster minor final in Portlaoise today at 5.10 against Galway, show your support these young lads are well worth watching. Don’t mind the television get out in the fresh air and shout on your county.
Timing of today’s minor final won’t see many farmers at it. If you’re in south Kilkenny , you’re talking about leaving your house at 3:30 latest and home at 8 maybe. Just not feasible at this time of year, especially if your milking cows.
If you're in South kilkenny you'd need to be leaving well before 3 30 if you want to have any sort of enjoyable day
Barney give up that auld farming, sure there’s no money in it.
Poor conditions for hurling in Portlaoise. 3 points is not a big lead against such a strong breeze.
Kilkenny clearly the better team but probably don't have enough of a lead at halftime. That's a stiff breeze they have to contend with
Not to get too excited but this looks like a good Kilkenny minor team, the best we have had in a long time. Our n.6 is having a stormer, Jake Mullen v.good just to mention 2
All of a sudden we are producing athletes, not something we have produced many of lately. Henderson, Buggy, Behan in minors, Mcphillips and a good number of the u20s. It's good to see, minors have danger men inside too so good stuff.
Hopefully seniors can go well tomorrow now and keep the good vibes going
Delighted with that 2nd half performance in particular. The passing, scores, blocking and workrate was top class. Two enjoyable wins over the last few days.
Good win in shocking conditions. Congrats to all involved
That minor team have buckets of hurling in them hooking blocking pace skill aggression bit of a dog in a lot of them to
Regardless of how much further they go it’s great to see us producing a team full of characteristics that kk teams are known for
I was worried at half time that they were not far enough ahead, but they were much the better team.in the second half..as others have said the workrate was outstanding too..a very positive couple of weeks for kilkenny hurling.
.it would be great if mullen worked out at 6..he definitely has the potential to be top class there.I know it would be robbing peter to pay paul bit the lads who have played there will not be good enough when we meet the top teams
Josh Dowling from Comer was 6, strong as an ox and fit as a fiddle 👍
Wexford and Dublin were comfortably beaten by Limerick and Clare
Man of the match for me, reads the game so well , savage composure for a young lad and uses the ball intelligently… one for the future.
Yeah a very good reader of the game, great to see 3 Erin's Own players starting, one on the bench and another on the extended panel after all the criticism/favouritism comments on here last year.
100%… fair play to them.
Really enjoyed watching the minors today. All over the pitch we had players of real class. Well done to all involved.
comerman Josh Dowling was a Boro man up to U 14, I dunno what happened after that (shenanigans).
Anyway two Leinster finals in four days not too bad and the future suddenly looks bright and lifts the county no end long may it continue.
True 😁 but once Comer is in the blood eh 👌
