Fr Iggy must be checking out his options now that Joe is leaving. Next week will be John O'Donovan from Cark and Anne from Cannes.
Consello…. seem to like 'pundits' in their line up it would appear…….uhmmm
I gave it about 15 minutes yesterday but it was “Pope Talk” all the way so I bailed.
And women's sports in the news so mustn't be about sport
Brendan must be having a sleepless night thinking about the Eurovision backlash in the morning 😂.
The ould "tight knit community" chestnut has to be Crowbarred into every report about a tragedy from a rural area
Just caught a "they're not here to defend themselves" statement before he went to a break. Who is it this time?
Vogue Williams... Tough going.
O'Connor going 'high nasal" very often today.
O'Connor shut down that motormouth bewer on the LBG stuff quanto rapido….kudos there
Strangely I warmed to Vogue Williams…. never knew anything about her up to this.
As the pope might say "Mirable dictu"
I caught about the last 10 minutes of both yesterday (kitchen gadget segment) and today’s (film/tv) show. Brendan’s ridiculously over the top enthusiasm during both segments (his excitement at the ice cream maker yesterday for example and the reality tv recommendations today) were tough to listen to - they were akin to the fawning fluff you’d see in RSVP and VIP magazine. I assume he was taking the proverbial in both shows, but then again maybe he was genuinely that enthusiastic (maybe the RTÉ cheque arrived on Friday and he was still high on life from cashing it?) - if so, he’s really changed.
Glad I missed Vogue though!
Joining Brendan to dissect the Sunday Papers are Ailbhe Smyth, Activist and Campaigner, Oísin Coghlan, Public Policy Advisor, Scott Lucas, Professor of U.S. and International Politics, the Clinton Institute at UCD, and, Sinéad McSweeney, Former Global Head of Public Policy at Twitter.
Third Sunday in 2025 for Lucas, second for Coghlan & McSweeney. First for Smyth. Coghlan's line of work has changed slightly since 06 April (Public Policy Analyst, Oisin Coghlan).
I heard Scott Lucas for the 1st time this morning.
I really enjoyed his input. He is very knowledgeable.
Give him time!
He really isn't, not in a rounded way. He's incredibly biased which he really should not be. Anyway, he sounds like he knows what he's talking about which is all well and good until you realise he actually doesn't say much that amounts to anything mostly.
Larry Donnelly for example, is a much more credible and dispassionate analyst of U.S. politics.
Is it possible to be incredibly biased and at the same time not say much that amounts to anything mostly?
That panel was the least diverse I think I've ever heard. I didn't notice any form of disagreement on anything until Brendan said about 35 minutes in, that two of them would have to agree to disagree on something - not even sure what it was. The "discussion" on LGBTQ rights was completely one-sided. O'Connor's attempt at redressing that, was the weakest I've ever seen from him and completely inadequate, giving free reign to Ailbhe Smyth in particular. It should have been put to her that the pushback LGBTQ people are getting at the moment is not far-right inspired hate, but legitimate criticism that has been suppressed for too long.
+1 on all of the above. Donnelly and Niall Stanage (in particular) are streets ahead of him. Lucas simply cannot hide his many, many biases.
Just tuning in to the Bono interview.
Had he an opinion on his fellow Irish musicians charged with terrorist offences in the UK?
No mention of Róisín Ingle's disgraceful column on the the Blackrock College boys abuse scandal. Brendan will not ask anything to upset the guests!!
Great to have her on again as it's been too long to hear from such a humble and self-effacing individual.
Many of the abused boys wouldn't be too quick to agree with that sentiment!
Tongue firmly in cheek. She's insufferable.
Had to laugh at the little whimper from Brendan yesterday when Bono mentioned Gary Glitter 🤣.
The last few months he just seem to be getting guests who are in like a niche luvvie type of group who most of us cant relate to at all. I personally don’t know who most of them are and after listening to them for a while am glad i don’t
The suspect in the Gainey murder is goin around kerry with his flute sez brendan cool as ya like 😊
Did he not say something a bit more open to innuendo like “he’s playing his flute in public”? I was doing something else at the time and only half-listening but did think it was a rather unfortunate choice of words.
Panel includes Mick Clifford, Brigid Laffan, Suzanne Rogers, and Peter Browne who seems to be advertising his financial services by proxy.
How does Clifford find time to do his real job? He's feckin everywhere on radio and TV.
I wonder is there anyone who works or is invited into RTE who doesn't own a holiday home.
Well he’s obviously not known to everyone, someone on one of the radio threads said they’d never heard him of him or hadn’t heard much of him previously which I found astonishing as he’s been on radio for at least 15 years.
