Sure that's up to Waterford themselves isn't it?😁
My Dad used to say this all the time and I would argue with him about it! He was adamant that teams don't bother in certain games to see how the other team operates. I would disagree and he would call me naive! He was from Kilkenny and he would say that they were too smart and Cork needed to do this. He would say why kill yourself if you think you will be playing them again. Now this was about the hurling league as the Championship was knockout then but I know if he was still alive he would be saying it now to me! 😅
Though he also had other conspiracy theories like a Munster ref would screw Kilkenny out of winnng all the time 😅
Is there any point in Waterford travelling at all on Sunday?
The more I think about Corks game last Sunday the more I think Cork were letting Limerick show their hand. Yes Cork should have been alot better but look at the psychology of the players they were disinterested. I think Cork are looking down the road I would imagine. I think we will beat Waterford Sunday by 4-5 points and if not we have no business in championship. Are we good enough to beat Limerick if we get past Waterford time will tell?
Why don't Cork give Robbie O'Flynn a run. Before his injury he was always good for a few scores
The Hurlng team is going to be announced tonight.
Who is fully fit? I think Coleman will and should be dropped for Cormac O'Brien. Harnedy to start for Dalton if he has not recovered. Niall O'Leary probably not recovered so maybe Mellerick comes in. Maybe Cahalane for Downey if he is not fully fit. Ryan seemed to suggest in an interview that Downey would be ok though now. I'm wondering does he change anything in the forwards. I have a feeling that maybe just Healy comes in as Ryan seems to be fairly faithful to his regular starters. It seems the way he thinks but maybe there will be wholesale changes after I say that! Whoever starts, I' m expecting way more energy and workrate from the start. Against Limerick we were even lazy taking sidelines like we didn't know what the plan was at all.
The Minor football team to play Kerry tomorrow live on TG4 has been announced. I'm hoping for a better performance from them too! At one stage in the first half of that previous game against Kerry, I thought we were very good but missed numerous chances to pull ahead. Then we just fell away in the second half. So there were glimpses but we need to see a full match from them.

Last Sunday was a bad day at the office but this same bunch of players beat Limerick twice in the Championship last year, and i would argue that we were robbed of a draw in the all Ireland final right at the end.
Of course the fear is that a defeat like that could damage the players psychologically, but beat Waterford this Sunday and the show is back on the road again. There's no point discussing what would could happen in a Munster final against Limerick until Waterford are taken care of.
We'll see what way we play Sunday. Under real pressure, will they stand up and put in a performance?.
I'm convinced we will.
Should be a bit more positivity around hopefully after the game.
If what we hear is true about injured players starting that's a serious going forward because that tells us our bench is limited, there is no way Cork can win Liam if we have not strength in depth. Look at Limerick at the subs the brought on most if not all would start in other Counties teams. That's the bench mark that other teams must aspire to. Another worrying aspect from last Sunday was none of our marquee players really stood out which leads me to conclude we have a bunch of talented players but not ones who can take a game by the scruff of the neck and change it. TK and SoD, TJ Reid ,Jason Forde and finally most of Limerick those Players are elite until some of our boys do it on a regular basis we will struggle to win Liam.
Madness starting Downey. You’d wonder what the thinking was
Drop Hoggie allows you to play a sweeper. Horgan cannot play in the half forward line and cannot be effective in a two man full forward line. His frees are his mainstay. Brilliant hurler but now his presence locks in Cork and other teams know what you can't do. As a Clareman, at the all Ireland final last year, he had some great moments but in reality he had more or less stick to the corner and Leen had studied his movements. Cork are now too predictable . Time to be radical.
100% correct. Lynch had the run of the place and that can't be allowed to happen.
Rob Downey was clearly not fit and should not have started against Limerick.
Bad call by Pat Ryan and his selectors.
Pat Ryan confirms Dalton and O'Leary are a big doubt for Sunday but would be ok should we progress. He also confirmed Rob Downey had not trained much before the Limerick game but the half he played will help him now for Wateford game. Its quite obvious now that he should not have even started the Limerick game.
I think there may be a few changes like Cormac O Brien and Mullins coming in. I'm a huge fan of both. No, Horgan won't be dropped.
ah boys we had a post half of which was about little fouls yee didn’t get, Jesus the first limerick goal was like the defending of an u12 camoige team. Man up .
I don’t get the drop hoggie talk he was better than both beside him in the full forward line and scored more and could have scored two goals. His frees were off but he performed better than both I thought.
It comes and goes in cycles and Limerick fans had a lot of traumatic defeats over the years from 1974 to 2017. I was delighted to see them get over the line in 2018, but they almost blew it against us in the semi final and Galway in the final. As we've seen they've gone from strength to strength since though!
Here's another analogy and i'm no Liverpool fan but look at a young Liverpool fan in the 90's growing up with the teasing from Man United fans. Now the kids of those United fans feel like the Liverpool fans that their parents were making fun of back in the day! For all this talk about success and failure coming in cycles though, Cork will be winning no all Ireland until we toughen up and smarten up.
It was the 2021 all Ireland final all over again! Last year and narrowly losing to them in 2023 convinced me that we could go toe to toe with Limerick on a regular basis. That theory has now flown out the window. Pat Ryan generally has his Corks teams playing with great spirit and passion, but yes tactical or lack of tactical acumen and making the correct changes while the match is on is an issue.
We need to knuckle down and focus on Waterford now and then worry about anyone else after that, but the footballers are renewing acquaintances with Meath in Navan this Saturday. We haven't played them in the Championship since the 2007 all Ireland semi final. They went into that one as favourites after beating Tyrone whilst we weren't all that impressive in beating Louth and Sligo.
We put in a great performance on the day and trashed them though. There was a bit of argy bargy between Noel O'Leary and Graham Geraghty as well. Did he ever get up off the ground after that dig from Noelie?😁 Oh i have great time for Geraghty as a player and person. Both these counties have fallen from grace in more recent times but football needs both Cork and Meath back at the top table again.
Everywhere on social media you have Limerick fans gloating that they gave Cork such a hammering and put us back in our box. It's everywhere and saying that Cork thought they just had to show up. Most in Cork were nervous of this game, we know how good Limerick are and it was unbelievable to beat them twice last year. There was a day when Limerick briefly got outside Munster to compete in the All Ireland series and we here in Cork would support them all the way. Since they scraped over the line in 2018 and became a successful outfit they have now become a unbearable bunch. The new Man City of hurling. Keep at it because when your at the top the fall is just as severe. All good things come to end and Cork folk won't forget it the day that they beat Limerick. It will happen in time. Everything goes in cycles. Enjoy being at the top for as long as it lasts.
Only getting a chance now to post as I had to work after the match. Yes, it was terribly disapponting as we never got gong at all. Everything that can go wrong seemed to happen. Dalton getting injured straight away was a real blow and Pat Ryan called it right in his interview after the match where he said we didn't score our chances to slow their momentum.
We never got going properly at all and Limerick were hell bent on winning. Its clear now that they really targeted this game. There were a few things that should be noted too however. That limerick penalty was no penalty as Donal Og pointed out, that Limerick fella that we all know about could and should have been sent off on the day, Patrick Horgan at one stage got clearly taken out off the ball by someone (not clear who from camerawork) and should have been at least a yellow and a free, Connolly had his face mask pulled and then later at a vital time we were fouled and ref put his arm up to give advantage, Fitzgibbon went on and took the shot and missed but we didn't get a free. Ref deemed play to have gone on too long I think. I noted the last one as in the Cork U20 game against Clare, Clare player was fouled and he ran on for 10 yards and played a 1-2 with another player and took his shot but missed. Then they still got the free. I remember thinking that was a long advantage but fair enough. That one was way longer than the one we didn't get !
I'm not saying the ref rode us but we just didn't really get any of those 50-50 calls.
In saying all that above, we have to look at our own performance as that is all we can control. We looked like we had that age old excuse of "a big block of training just done"!! It felt exactly like the first league game with Tipperary. Everyone second to the ball and chances not being taken on the scoreboard. A real below par performance.
I think it was our shooting that really let us down yesterday. We looked really rusty and the 1-16 scored was our lowest since a 0-13 against Tipp all the way back in 2016! We only sciored 54% of our total shots whereas Limericks was 74% I doubt we will play that bad again but if we do, we will be gone.
Bear in mind, just like the "hype" from some quarters about us before the game, the pessimism is over the top too. Yes, I expected a way closer game but after we got the goal and then they scored the penalty, you could feel Limerick go "phew" as they feared another comeback was on. I said before the game, that f we were close to them near the end, we would win. Now even without the penalty, I think we were too far back but it shows that they feared it too.Remember they were at home so they should really be winning anyway. Just like we are at home now to Waterford in front of a packed house so we should be winning.
Surely the players will be hurting now and want to make amends. That first Tipp league game was brutal but the players bounced back to beat Kilkenny at home. Yes I know it was the league but the performance yesterday felt very similar. I would feel confident about beating Waterford at home. I don't think they have enough forwards to punish us like Limerick can. Of course you never know what might happen but once we perform at home we will win. Yesterday we did not. Then hey presto…….who do we play again? We would be playing Limerick in a Munster final again. Now who will the "hype" be on? Surely we will have learned a lot about what went wrong. A whole match to disect and analyse. I think we will end up playing them twice more.
Really we must remember that it is our own hands and we are at home. If I told you before the championship began, one of the 2 All Ireland finalists will be gone with a game to spare and the other only has to win at home to be in a Munster Final, you would probaby say we are gone and Clare will be very tough to beat at home, the lucky fellas!
So win at home and we get Limerick again. Even a draw is not a disaster as we would be third.
Then say Limerick were to beat us again in the final, we would still be not knocked out! Then we could be playing them again after that and they won't be at home. As Pat Ryan said, it is a Marathon, not a sprint. We need to focus on Waterford now and bring everything at them at home.
Ye have to bite the bullet and drop Horgan. great servant, but ye needed a sweeper against Limerick and ye cant afford an older player at full forward if you have a two man full forward line. It was the same against Clare last year. Horgan, and you have to love his hurling, is a tactical limitation now. Ye need a bit of madness in the team. Clare got close to Limerick a few times by limiting their triangles. We had them beating in Ennis last year but gave it away, in the Munster final we were beaten well by them but didn't play well on the day. Corks hammering says there is something fundamentally wrong with the team setup and mentality. Not covering runners etc. is part of that.

Cost price if anyone wants them dm me ?
This is the worst thing that can happen to cork...meet your nemesis again soon after a mauling and again in their back yard!!. They be better to meet them at a later stage and have a few games to reassess and get up confidence again ..cork have not the luxury of a third spot and coming again for a later assault...if it was only a few points in the difference and a great game..well then cork be relishing it .but it's now like the weakling in the school play ground meeting the big bully boy for more pasting. And more demoralising..tipperary are in a better situation. And gaining confidence as well.as hurling all around them..
I agree, don't want to sound negative but if we beat Waterford next week and thats if, how do we bring back a 16 point hammering deficit against Limerick. Is it that we were so bad yesterday that there are plenty of areas to improve on or are Limerick just that good that we couldn't beat them no matter what?
We will be given no chance against Limerick again in Gaelic grounds if we win at weekend. Cork players need to be told a few harsh realities that they are soft, cant hurl, are bottlers to the highest degree when it really matters , and Pat Ryan is poor manager when it matters most . That needs to get into the media too and needs to be said by someone in the media outside of Cork. Let it sting because Cork management or the players don't seem to think it. That won't change now unless we come back and beat Limerick and win All Ireland.
Where the feck is Dalo now, will he go and hype Limerick up to the last like he did with Cork? Bet you he won't the stupid man that he is.
It’s far from a catastrophe. Getting out of Munster is all that matters as if you are good enough you will be good enough to make the All Ireland semi through the preliminary rounds then anyway.
The extra games can work for you in getting match fitness and form up…or against you in terms of injuries/tiredness impact.
It was disappointing for sure but one more win and we will have got what we wanted out of the provincial campaign and that is a passage through to the next stage.
So i actually think we can comeback and are still very much alive in this championship. If we do see Limerick again the challenge is there to prove that yesterday was an off day.
I thought we were gone myself after the first two championship games last year and things turned around for us. The same can also happen here if this team is good enough.
Hard to see any team comeback from this. In every part of the field we had issues and it's not like we were down to 14 either.
I don't know how many injuries we had but something was off anyway. Anyway get over Waterford next Sunday will be a major test and only then can we think about Limerick again.
