The rains have finally arrived here in Tralee this past hour, hopefully not heralding a big break down, just a blip, we hope, to fill the reservoirs.
We have been truly blessed here in Kerry, this past week especially.@Meteorite58's beautiful photos describe it better than any words I could find. It's been magical. Gin blue wall to wall skies and a weekend of real proper heat. Lounging at the beach and feeling as warm as you would in somewhere like Spain. Bliss.😍 I'm usually jealous of the sunny south east but sandals are on the other foot for once.🙂 Fingers crossed that it's the start of a rare classic long hot summer for the entire country.

We will notice the difference from tomorrow as we lose that direct easterly off 90km stretch of cold sea.
Welcome to what we've had in Dublin all month! Looking at stats for the airport it's only been above 20C for 7 hours all year so far and that was in April.
It's been a glorious spell so not complaining at all, but echoing what others are saying I'm looking forward to the wind shift just to get rid of that endless cold easterly breeze

Turned into a lovely day in Wexford, breeze is pretty much gone compared to the last couple weeks and it's quite warm in the garden.
A couple of kilometres inland makes a big difference depending on the stregth of the wind.
I was in Ashord Friday evening, which is probably only max. 5km inland, and was/felt warm there (19c on car thermo) while 13c in Greystones.

Exactly. The past few weeks have been gorgeous for Dublin. But as I say every year the East usually gets its best weather with "poorer" synoptics.
When a strong ridge of HP is right over us we often get plagued by mist and sea fog - often not forecast - and/or a chilly breeze. (Though thankfully this recent High has brought endless sun).
Our best weather usually comes when there's slack pressure over us, with winds from the West or South West. Showers feed in from the Atlantic but we just manage to stay dry with partly cloudy conditions and temps of around 21 or 22º. No doubt we'll see it a fair bit over the coming weeks.
I must get a weather station up and running at my house in Rathdrum because it definitely felt much warmer than the temperatures forecast and reported from the likes of yourself Docarch. Although nobody will argue the fact that today is quite chilly in comparison to the last few days. I know you're on the coast so it's always going to be that bit cooler and breezier with that setup we've been in, and I'm in a valley so while it can get breezy depending on the wind direction I think we're generally more sheltered, but at only 15-20km from the coast I think it shouldn't be that much different. I was sitting out in the garden in shorts and a light tshirt Saturday and Sunday and had to move into the shade a few times to cool down. Interesting how things can be so different just a short distance away.

In Dublin Airport since last May only 2 months have had more rainfall than the long term average and most of the months were well below it.

Was thinking same myself. Can't wait for mid to high teens (that I heard forecast) after being stuck in long run of low teens! E.g. 12.8c atm in Greystones.
Also really helped keeping the temp inside the house down with that breeze
Been saying similar to those disappointed hearing about falling temperatures this week considering air temp wise the East was rarely warm to begin with. (Plenty warm sheltered from a breeze and in the Sun though)
.ie that the falling temperatures forecast probably refers to the geographical majority of the country in the midlands and west where air temperatures will fall from the mid 20’s down to the mid to high teens….which for us on the east coast especially if the oul Fohen effect gets going from the Wicklow/Dublin mountains, means we might actually be seeing an improvement in air temperatures compared to the last few weeks.
Eg. Air temps of 16-18c is a come down to seasonal norms for the midlands and west from their toasty 24-26c they've been experiencing of late. Whereas those same 16-18c air temps will be an improvement on the 13-15c we've been experiencing on the East coast with the potential of a Fohen top up to 18-20c. In any clear skies out of a sea breeze under the strong May Sun we might be feeling a lot warmer here in the East than at any time over the last few weeks. Like I said it already felt very pleasant and plenty warm in the direct Sun and sheltered from a Sea Breeze on the East Coast anyway.
dull and chilly 12.8c, the good news for us east coasters is that temperatures will ‘return closer to average’ later in the week as the wind changes to the W.

We've just had a torrential downpour here in South West Dublin
a different morning here in Meath, cool, cloudy and the breeze is fairly nippy. Definitely not t-shirt weather.
